Were not in Kansas anymore.........

Jonathan and I just returned from Crawford County, Kansas. Wes, and everyone at Atkinson Expeditions, treated us like kings. Top notch food, toasty cabin to come to every evening, and copious amounts of deer equal a perfect hunt in my book! Unfortunately, due to a lack of concentration at the moment of truth (more than once), I did not connect. Shawn Monsen of FMP killed a huge 161 buck the day we got there spot and stalk. Marty Edwards and Curt Wells both also killed great bucks.
We had a couple very frigid days to test the 09' gear. It got as cold as 17 degrees before wind chill (below 10 degrees likely), and never warmer than about 45 degrees. One day Shawn and I spent part of day in a tree stand when it was about 25 degrees with steady twenty to thirty mile an hour winds. Everything worked wonders......
All in all it was an unforgettable hunt and I will always look forward to getting back to Kansas in November.....
Pictures and video clips to come

I am surprised; Gene usually carries that picture of Peter around in his wallet...his "adopted" son. He does have a framed copy proudly on diplay at the house!

LOL...I should have known Gene would have spilled the beans...
Yes, truth is I was the inspiration for the "Zoolander" character...
Ol' Gene and Uncle Barry, got a lot of mileage and laughs out of my former "celebrity" status...
But, alas...These days...I'm just Tanners dad!
I'll have to send ya some pics of me back in the day...of course I'll be in my Calvin Kleins...
Hmmm...Heres what I'll do...I'm going to send ya an autographed picture of me as an underwear model...I better not find it hung up in the corporate offfice bathroom...
Big hug! Peter

I don't know...this is a hard trip. Nice lodge, great cook, rockstar guides. Wes, and the team at Atkinson Expeditions, do it right. Pete, I think you would fit right in, especially after Gene shared all the stories about you being a male model.
Trust me, I'm digging hard on google trying to find some dirt. It keeps connecting you with Zoolander, but I can't remember what model you were.

Hmmm...sounds like a blast. How do I get an invite for next season? I'm almost as cool as Gene...

Sounds like you had a great time. Looking forward to trying out the "New" stuff in British Columbia in December.

"great opportunities at bucks that were just a little too small for the ranch minimums…minimums that would be considered trophies in other states."
Sounds like my last fishing trip "none of them were keepers so we just released them"
Can't wait to see the vids.

Indeed, a great trip. For the whitetail novice, it was another great learning experience. This year, we hit it right in the middle of the rut, letting us watch bucks of all sizes running around with their tongues hanging out of their mouths, in love. Does in estrus were running for their lives. We got great footage, fine tuned our calls and decoy set ups, creating some great opportunities at bucks that were just a little too small for the ranch minimums...minimums that would be considered trophies in other states.
It was incredible to spend a week with Gene Wensel as well. An icon, and now a Sitka ambassador. Curt Wells, Editor for Bowhunter Magazine, another ambassador and HUGE fan of The Dutch Oven.
Dixon and Monsen rounded out the stars, with both of them shooting huge bucks, spot and stalk. Shawn tagged a big one on the day of our arrival, Dixon the day after we left. Pics to come.
Looking forward to next year already.
