Sitka Athlete, Chase Fulcher recently called in to let us know he has successfully harvested two of the five caribou he's hunting this fall.  He has taken a beautiful Central Barren Ground Caribou as well as a Mountain Caribou.  He emailed us these two great photos and then was out the door, headed for Quebec in search of a Quebec Labrador Caribou.  Good luck Chase!

Hey Guys,

I just got out of the bush after completeing the last of the Yukon sheep hunts for Stones. My final two hunters Jeremy and Ray Rogers both killed great rams in five hard days of backpacking.  Ray took one on Day 2 and Jeremy got his on Day 5. Ray's ram is 37.5 with just over 15 on the Base! Gross Green Scores 171 2/8!  Jeremy's ram is a 38 1/4 beautiful sheep. We covered over 30 miles and HAD FUN!

This made the perfect ending to a great Stone Sheep season in the Yukon.  Four rams taken in the Yukon and a Stone and Goat in BC...all over 25 days and 118 miles on the boots.  I figured out a lot of new country and will be sure to have a great season next year!  I'm already looking forward to it.

I just had a Bighorn hunter cancel on the first hunt so I might have some days off.  I'll be moving into the new home we recently bought and then possibly doing some personal hunting until a Bighorn hunt on September 20th.  Then I'm off and running again!

Y'all keep me filled in on your seasons so far!

Happy Hunting,

Dustin Roe

Chase Fulcher Chasing a Dream

Sitka Athlete, Chase Fulcher, chases his dream.

By plane, by boat, and by foot, Chase Fulcher is pursuing all five species of Caribou across North America.  Over the last three years he has been planing this trip.  It's been a jigsaw puzzle of arranging private charter planes, lodging, and outfitters while  trying to forsee and follow the various seasonal migrations.  The dream was conceived well before then, but the challenge of the preparation is what has consumed all that time.

Chase is no stranger to challenge.  On the contrary, he seeks it out.  Not your typical new experience, but the never been done type of adventure.  That is the type of challenge he has set for himself this fall.

35 years of bowhunting, travel to various countries throughout the world, a Grand Slam, numerous trophy whitetails, and extensive military training may be the factors that will contribute to his success this fall.  But in truth, what will have the greatest effect on this endeavor is the passion, enthusiasm, grit, and dedication that Chase pours into all of life's adventures.

Follow Chase's dream caribou hunt with us via Sitka Insight and Sitka Gear Facebook.  Chase will be checking in periodically to send us updates from the field.  The season opened September 1st and Chase could be hunting through December.  His hunts are as follows:

Central Barren Ground Caribou  - Hunting with Neulton Lodge Outfitters 500 miles outside of Winnipeg

Mountain Caribou - Hunting with Dave Dutchik and Redstone Outfitters out of the Northwest Territories

Quebec Labrador Caribou - Hunting with Peter Palmer and Tunilak Adventures

Woodland Caribou - Hunting with Otto and Annie Roberts out of Deerlake Newfoundland

Barren Ground Caribou

Please check back for more information and updates from Chase.

Here are two bulls from the elk hunt I just finished last week in Nevada.  The two hunters are Rick Drake and David Evanow.

On the third day of his hunt, David killed a really unique albino bull. It was one of the the most interesting animals I have ever seen.

Rick waited until the final ten minutes of the last day of his hunt to take a giant  7x 6 that we had been trying to connect with for the past three days. Jason Campbell from Hurricane, Utah was helping me guide on this trip.

Game on Yeah....yeah

Nick Salter and I went deep into the unknown wilderness today...not that we were gonna get killed or eaten, just wilderness that is rarely seen. A good thing when you're hunting bulls. Full story to come....

Game on Yeah!

A quick update from Colorado.Matt Smith sets the bar with a great bull taken at 30 yards. We've had multiple close encounters in the 20 to 60 yard range, but not the right shot yet. The bulls are bugling like crazy and the action consistent.

Game On...

The season opened last Saturday, and it feels great to finally be in the game.  Donnie, Andrew, and I put on some great miles this weekend.  We layered down for controlled burns, and layered up for afternoon blizzards.

Multiple close encounters, and knocked arrows... None set in flight.

Hunting season is here, and its great to be making plays.  Even better, spending time in the backcountry with good friends.  Cheers!
