Gary Davis is a buddy of mine, and he's been making selfbows for decades. A selfbow is simply a bow made from one piece of wood, no laminates or composites. We recently filmed a how-to on building selfbows for Gary, and during the shoot we cut down a couple of Osage trees that my great grandfather had planted many years ago.
From one of the inside splits, Gary made me a bow. I practiced with it for a couple weeks, and planned to use it for Michigan's early doe-only season, since there is an over abundance of does in my area.

I thought it might be tougher to get the job done with a selfbow, and it is. After
shooting a doe on opening morning and two more that afternoon with perfect
shots, I have a new respect for selfbows and all the work that goes into a full freezer.
