Dall Sheep. What do you think when you hear that name? My
vision was of huge vistas, rugged peaks and wild sheep. I wasn’t disappointed
one bit when I arrived in the Brooks Range of Alaska on August 10th
2012.

I was able to be apart of a 10-day archery sheep hunt with
outfitter Joe Miller of Alaska Statewide Guides and my uncle, Jeff, from
southern Michigan.

We had our close calls. 100 yards from one ram and 125 from another, but not close enough for archery sheep hunting.

There was beautiful country along the way. The Yukon River, the small town of Coldfoot, an arctic Grizzly
Bear, a Wolverine and plenty of Caribou and Dall Sheep.

But after 10 days of hard hunting, unfavorable weather and rams
that just didn’t cooperate, my Uncle came up empty handed. And still, the place got under my skin. I can’t wait to get back to Alaska, and maybe hunt for myself next time.
