Honkers with Longbows, Round 1

When George Lynch, owner of Lynch Mob Calls, was named to the waterfowl arm of Sitka Gear's Pro Staff, we immediately began making plans to test out the new GORE™ OPTIFADE™ Marsh PatternWhen I test things, I like to make it as difficult as possible, so George, Sitka Athlete Mike Mitten, Brian Wessel and I decided to hunt geese with our TallTines recurves and longbows, which Brian crafts by hand.

Our chosen day in Iowa turned out to be one of bluebird skies and a crisp chill down into the 30s.

Fortunately, between George’s premier calling skills and the incredible comfort and concealment properties of GORE™ OPTIFADE™ Marsh, we got plenty of actionboth on the lake shore and in the corn fields.

Each flock of honkers presented multiple opportunities when they committed to landing among our decoys. They knew there was some disturbance on the ground, but with no boom, boom, boom of shotguns going off, they just kept coming in.

We took many trips out into the lake with the kayak to retrieve our bobbing arrows, but all we had to show for our efforts was a few floating feathers. However, we did learn quite a bit on this mission, and we'll definitely refine our techniques. There will be a round two…

Talk about making a hard thing ever harder!! I have so much respect for archery let alone shooting waterfowl. Good luck on future hunts. Keep me posted!
Now that is a challenge no doubt! Nice work OZ! Good Luck on Rd 2!
You guys are wildmen! This is something that I've always wanted to try...but arrows aren't cheap! LOL. Keep it up guys!
Right on Guy's! Hope to make the journey to hunt with George, Bret and the LMC crew next year!
Why is it titled "Honkers with Longbows" when the guy in the picture is clearly holding a recurve?
