This vest is extremely warm! I actually have this vest in the original optifade elevated forest pattern. I will pull this vest out on the coldest of days. my biggest issue is the size of this vest. its huge! I have the new kelvin lite vest and compared to that its about 2 sizes bigger. But both tags say medium. it makes it very tough if you want to layer this vest under one of the softshell jackets like the Jetstream or 90%. Another issue is the pull cord for hem, on the inside of the vest where the cord comes out if you pull to hard or at the wrong angle(even through the hand pockets as designed) it will rip the fabric. it happened to mine so now I have to flip the hem up to adjust the pull cord. A steel garment like the one on the stratus jacket needs to be installed to avoid this issue.
I have never owned a vest until now, and I really like it. The prima loft did not negatively affect me from shouldering my shotgun at all. I paired this vest with the Traverse Hoody. I sat in a duck blind in 40 degree fog, wind and rain and was warm and happy. This waterfowl vest is now my go to layering vest for any hunting situation. And the fleece lined pockets are awesome! I'm with other reviewers and wear this vest out. Great piece of kit!
Great piece of gear. It's my go to after a long approach during my cool down or early morning and late afternoon set-ups. Very packable to insulation value. It's too noisy for the stalk or slow movement through brush. For the price it should be quiet. Arctyrx has a similar vest for less money that is quite if only in camouflage. Use your pant material instead of the poly.
So far, this is my favorite piece of Sitka gear. So light and packable. This is always with me for almost every hunting season. Extremely warm. As one of the other reviewers said, I wear this even in the off season just out and about.
I must say this product is a game changer. My kelvin vest is my favorite piece of sitka gear! I wear this thing when i am late January bow hunting, hunting late season ducks in Arkansas, and almost daily in the off season when it is cold. Yes, this product is a bit loud for bow hunting, but it wasn't built to be an exterior layer. You dont want to wear this vest on the way to the stand or blind to avoid sweating-but that is the beauty of this product. It fits perfect in a pack and i always put it on when i need to warm up. This vest keeps you warm! Best piece of gear i have ever owned.
Very nice, warm insulating layer. I prefer the best since I strictly bowhunt and want to have the least obstruction around my elbows and forearms as possible since most long sleeve garmets fit too snug around my forearms and wrists. I would give the vest 4 stars if the outside fabric was whisper quiet, it isn't. If you choose to use the best under an outer layer that is quiet you'll have no problems with noise. I've killed two deer this year inside 25yds while wearing the kelvin under my 90% jacket. Awesome products.
