The Downpour Jacket is 100% waterproof and designed with a brushed face to keep you silent during a rain storm when waiting for that elusive whitetail.
If you spend enough time in the stand, you’re guaranteed to get rained on. The Downpour is the quietest jacket ever made that’s Guaranteed to Keep You Dry®. It is designed specifically for sitting motionless as storms roll through.
The waterproof yet breathable GORE-TEX® Laminate is wrapped in a lightly brushed polyester knit fabric to minimize friction noise. The thin, packable build means it can live in your pack until the sky darkens. Intelligent patterning gives you a full range of motion, crucial when the buck you’ve been waiting for presents himself. All zippers are welded and watertight. The full front zipper makes for quick and easy on-and-off, while two zippered hand pockets and a zippered chest pocket stash the essentials. The four-panel hood moves with you to limit its impact on your peripheral vision. The cuffs adjust to seal out the elements.
"The Downpour Jacket is my go to waterproof layer for fall rainstorms while in the treestand."
- Sitka Athlete Bobby Warner
Hey Nate - Terribly sorry for the inconvenience here. Your Downpour gear is certainly covered under warranty and will be replaced. We notice you’re in the PNW; a spot and stalk hunter. One thing to note is that the Downpour Series lives in our Whitetail Category and is designed for a static hunter, specifically hunting from a tree stand. Its intended design is minimal to be packable, and quieter. The 2013 and older models used a GORE-TEX Paclite Construction to achieve this design. This model of the Downpour Series (2013) more than satisfies it's intended use but it is not durable enough for a spot and stalk hunter. We blame ourselves for not communicating this message more thoroughly and so offer a few options to get you into something more appropriate for your style of hunting. Shoot us your number or give us a call at 877-748-5247. Thanks, Sitka Customer Service
I have worn my Downpour jacket and pants only on two seperate occasions, and I'm sad to report that I got absolutely soaked on my second time out. I was out still hunting through the brush in a good ol' Oregon "Downpour" and was very discouraged when I realized that after about three hours water was moving right across the membrane. I was wearing Sitka base layers and only running about 30% exertion, not really hard enough to be sweating. What made me realize that it was water moving in (rather than sweat trapped inside) was that the inside of the back of the jacket (the area that my Flash 20 pack was resting on) was the only dry part, despite that being the warmest and most sweat prone part of my body. Same story with my pants, water went straight through them, soaked my thighs, crotch, etc. I had to call my hunt off and wait out the storm for two days tentbound because I had no backup rain gear. I'm hoping that maybe I just got a bad batch of material or something because I want to love this gear... It's so quiet for rain gear. Anyone else with this experience? Hate to be the only person on here with a bad review, but it is what it is. :(
I used this jacket on an Idaho deer hunt in mid October in the Smokey Mountain region. It was in the mid 30's and moderately rainy with occasional hard downpours. This jacket kept me warm and dry the whole time. I shot my deer from 20 feet away... it never saw me - I could tell that it knew I was there but couldn't see/find me at all. So I believe that this camo pattern works! I have to agree with others on here that it needs pit zips as I got pretty warmed up walking the ridges in it. I wore this over the core and base layers with the jet stream vest and jacket and it did not constrict or bind (everything was in medium size) so I was very pleased with it. Also the deer blood washed right out of it with no staining when I got home. Great all around product.
I agree with Eric's post from 8/20/13...if the Downpour Jacket had pit zips, I would have purchased one a long time ago! I'm a wilderness guide in northern WI for hunting, fishing, snowshoeing, wilderness photography, etc.. Sitka...please add pit zips to this jacket...and I'm in!!!!! I already have the Downpour Pants...love them...let's make the jacket just as versatile and maximize the adjustable climate control efficiency!!!
I work in Special Operations in the United States military and have seen quite a variety of equipment throughout the years. I can honestly say that I have never worn a set of GORE-TEX layers as comfortable or as stealthy as these. I use them both for hunting as well as for aspects of my job overseas. I only wish I had found these earlier!! They are above and beyond what I could have imagined before wearing them. Top of the line equipment is to be expected from Sitka...and this assuredly holds up to that standard. Bravo Sitka!!
The shoes I've been wearing since I've been 11 years old have been been constructed of gore tex and leather. So I can say I've been testing gore tex products for several years. I've used the gore products in everything from shoes on up. I have to say, since back in the day, the products have come a long way. High quality jackets with taped seams and stretchable material make for bomb proof hunts. These products keep me dry and in the field longer than all other products I've used combined. The gore tex material breathes letting moisture out while blocking the passage of water in. Wear a moisture wicking base layer with the gore tex shell and you can accomplish anything that mother nature throws your way. Thanks Sitka.
Used the downpour jacket and pant in every kind of weather from summer storms, down to 5 degrees F as an outer layer over a down coat and wool layers. Smartly engineered, quietly, durable and love the flexibility both when layering and the freedom of movement of the athletic cut. Great on stand and still hunting. Solid quality and I got it on sale at their year end close out! This review is written after owning 1 year and using about 50 days afield. As someone already mentioned I would also like underarm zips for controlling heat when hiking in the mountains, or in warmer weather or with a lot of gear.
The very best! I hunt black tail on Vancouver Island and it's called a coastal rain forest for a reason. I dropped two bucks this season both from ground level at less then twenty yard. Both while wearing downpour gear. The first one walking in front of me while I was set up in ambush. The second one how ever I happened to bump into while on my way into my stand. He knew I was there (I think he could hear my heart thumping in my chest) but no matter how hard he looked he just could not see me. I am an optifade believer now through and through. My only complaint is that this gear is made in china.
Finally a rain outfit that doesn't leak. Its hard to beat the lightweight packable design of the Downpour pants and jacket. Well worth the money.
Awesome jacket I hunt on Vancouver island where it rains a lot. Perfect for the rain! Also keep you warm.
This is the best rain jacket that I have every used for hunting. The outer material is super quiet and durable. It has hand pockets and a nice chest pocket. The hood and waist cinch down when it gets cold. The inside is Gore tex paclite which allows it to pack down very small. I have used this jacket during early to late seasons with various layering techniques. I've worn it over the stratus, a goose down jacket or simply over a light shirt. My only complaint is the lack of pit zips. I live in WV..which is very hilly and steep. I've had to wear this jacket in the rain while hiking up hills to my treestand. The addition of pit zips would be nice as a way to dump excess heat. Other than that...this is an amazing rain jacket.
