Seven-time World Champion Elk Caller Corey Jacobsen knows there's nothing like the high country come mid-September. Though Corey has become one of the most sought-after resources for elk calling and hunting in the nation, he recognizes that success on the stage doesn't necessarily relate to success in the field.
The true contest takes place in the yellow aspen speckled valleys and darknorthfacing pine thickets of the backcountry. Matching wits with bugling bulls on public land, over-the counter archery units is a challenge that ticks his clock year round. Corey's calling strategy is all about aggression, "if the first bull won't answer, I'll keep on going until I find a bull that will."
His master plan is to close the gap to 150 yards with a favorable wind and challenge the bull with a blood curdling bugle. Preserving the art of elk calling and hunting is just as important to him as playing the game himself. As a lifelong member of Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation who never misses "Elk Camp," he fills the off-season raising three kids that are fluent in the language of elk.
Corey's passion for elk hunting led him to create Elk101.com, a website devoted to education, instruction, and entertainment. In 2011, Corey launched Extreme Elk Magazine, which burst on to the scene as a collection of stories from real, everyday elk hunters, combined with the energy and experience of dedicated outdoor writers and hunters. Corey is also a key figure in 'Uncommon Ground: Bulls Off the Beaten Path', an all-elk hunting TV show airing July-September 2013 on Sportsman Channel.
