Why We Made This

Our goal was to create a layer that worked harder and performed smarter. The answer was in partnering with PrimaLoft® Evolve for the most active insulation on the market. Active insulation’s biggest benefit is its ability to adapt—it traps heat while you’re sitting, and breathes more efficiently than static insulation while you’re on the move. The Ambient jacket or hoody will increase the performance of your clothing system for any pursuit functioning as a mid or outer layer depending on the need.

It’s a great insulation piece but the outer material is trash, wore it under my Hudson bibs on a waterfowl hunt and the straps wore out the material after one hunt. Would not recommend

As an avid user of Beyond, Arcteryx and other big name manufacturers I was looking for something to bridge the gap between tactical, climbing and hunting. I purchased several pieces from Sitka’s waterfowl line, and haven’t been disappointed. The Ambient jacket and the rip stop style outer layer is more durable than most mid layers while still maintaining a light weight, functional fit and feel. It has been used as a mid layer underneath the Boreal Aerolite jacket, Hudson Vest, and Goretex shell. All of this is well below sub-zero temperatures. As a stand alone I have worn this jacket with the Core LS into the low 30’s and have been more than temperate. I strongly recommend this product based on the fit, finish, and feel.

I’ve worn my ambient jacket through all the hunting seasons from September to current waterfowl hunting. In dispute of some comments, I have found this jacket to be more than durable, I have literally worn this dozens of times in every condition. I haven’t had any issues. It’s easily the warmest layer I have and discovered I can do with less when wearing it in extreme cold.
I love it and highly recommend to those considering.

Jacket has proven to be a good insulating layer. Have worn in mid 30s with a couple lighter base layers and was very comfortable. Similar to other reviews, the outer material and stitching is questionable and overall would seem unreliable in the field. Have not had the chance to wear the jacket outside of daily wear though. The stitching across the upper back tore in multiple spots just while putting the jacket on. Sent in for repair and within first two days of having the jacket returned it ripped again in multiple spots in same area. The lightweight warmth is great but I would sacrifice a few ounces if it meant a more reliable outer material/stitching

This jacket is super light weight. This jacket is a great insulation layer and will keep you warm in a wide variety of conditions. Seems to do a great job of moving moisture from your body, never felt real wet or sweaty wearing this. This also does great in the rain.

That said, the outer layer could be a lot better. It feels super thin which is both good and bad. Is not near a durable as I expected it to be. I have had it for a few months now. It’s already showing signs of wear, has gotten holes. Have all had some stitching popping loose after a wash.

I’m actually really impressed with this jacket. It’s comfortable, lightweight, quiet and warm. I bought the grey and use it as an everyday outer jacket. Even in temperatures of 30 deg it’s warm enough as outer layer as long as there’s only light winds. I wear it under the fanatic jacket for hunting and have sat for hours in temperatures of 5 deg.
I’m 6’2” and 215lbs and bought an XLT and it’s perfect.

Used the ambient jacket twice so far in an about 25-30 degree weather. I layered it with the fanatic hoody and a cheap base layer and had to walk about a mile to my stand. I was overly hot and had to strip off the ambient jacket. I placed it back on when I got in my stand and it kept me warm for a few hours. Highly recommend it for layering.

My go to insulation when I am carrying decoys, walking out to the blind or any other activity where I am might be sweating. The Ambient is extremely lightweight and packable but most importantly it breathes extremely well. And so far I have not had any issues with durability although it is lightweight by design. When I finish my activity particularly in colder weather my under layers are dry and I am not sweaty or retaining moisture. As I start to cool down I will add an outer layer to trap more heat. With other layers I feel like I am constantly juggling different insulation layers trying to stay that perfect temperature, either too hot or too cold. The Ambient is the one layer I constantly use or have in my blind bag.

The jacket is comfortable, light weight, and surprisingly warm. I have warn it a few times but still hesitate to wear it hunting as I fear the ultra thin material will not hold up. The outer material is as thin as gift bag stuffing… and I feel like it may rip just as easy.

One of the best mid-layer insulation pieces I have ever used. I have not been cold when on stand once this season when using this as my insulation piece.

This jacket is very warm for how light it is. I got stuck in a rather heavy down pour with only this jacket as an outer layer and it shed the majority of the rain. The parts of the coat that did wet out dried insanely quickly after the rain stopped

However, the outer material of the jacket is not durable. I wore the jacket under my fanatic bibs 2 days in a row, maybe walked a total of a quarter mile and the jacket material looks like I've owned it for multiple years. I am kind of disappointed in that regard.

The ambient jacket has become my favorite layer after this season. I have used it as a mid layer for those cold days in a tree stand in Michigan, an outer layer for hikes up the mountains in the Colorado Rockies, and again as a mid layer on the mountain top after layering up for those cold and windy sits. I love it and highly recommend it if you are on the fence. No need for sizing up or down. I am 6' tall, 175 lbs and I wear L in everything Sitka and this one fits just as expected. I think I'm going to have to buy the hoody in a solid color for everyday wear.

I'll just go straight to the beans.

Jacket outer material is a joke. The yarns in it soils up quickly. Easily gets pulls on it. Don't bother wearing a back pack or you'll get soils just alone from the pack shoulder straps. Soiled already from wearing it with my Fanatic bibs. The back had soil already and I don't even know from what. What I mean by soil is the fabric and yarn had broken apart thus having tons of pulls and fluff of the material breaking. Your better off wearing this thing inside out.

Got this to replace the Midi. Super happy with the warmth and function of the jacket but it needs several upgrades. Needs a harness port for whitetail hunters, needs thumbholes as the sleeves aren’t tapered for layering so they do bunch up, and most importantly it is not durable at all. After 2 sits in the stand the shoulders are already showing major wear just from wearing my pack to and from the stand. I’m worried my harness is just going to cause even more signs of wear.

I decided to put my new ambient jacket to the test on a duck hunt this morning. Don’t know how cold it was, but there was ice in the coves. While putting out decoys I stepped off a ledge buried in the silt and immediately went from waste deep water to almost neck deep. I thought my hunt was over as I sloshed inside my waders back to shore (by the way, never wade without a wading belt, may have saved me today) and worried how disappointed my 9yo would be. To my surprise, I never got cold. I was wringing water out of the sleeves the whole rest of the hunt and stayed completely comfortable the whole time. I don’t know how durable it will be in the long run, but it’s deceptively warm for its weight and bulk, and maybe the most comfy jacket I own. I’d give it ten stars if I could. Great purchase.

I got the ambient jacket in subalpine for early spring 2023 turkey hunts. I have a coyote problem so in early October I sat on a stool that backed up to an overgrown bank overlooking a heavily used trail. It was 34 degrees and wore the ascent pants, lightweight crew, heavy weight hoody and the jacket. I was very comfortable. Did not see any coyotes but a bobcat walked past me at 10 feet, stopped, looked at me and then walked on up the trail. Unbelievable. The ambient jacket is quiet, warm and very comfortable. I am 5'10", weigh 165 and the large fits me great and allows for layering. Very nice product.

I stayed comfortable and dry while sitting in the duck blind for several hours. I also spent 2-3 hours paddling a canoe without sweating out. The Ambient Jacket performed exceptionally well during active and static activities. In my opinion this jacket is well worth the money spent. This jacket was a life saver when setting goose decoys and hiking through the duck slough. It allowed me to regulate the heat I was creating and provided loft under a waterproof shell like the Delta or Hudson. It was my go-to insulation on every hunt this fall. So light I almost didn't notice it, and kept me comfortable when the birds were flying.

Maximum breathability for the hike in and setting decoys, it's super quiet for big game and packs down to almost nothing.

The Ambient allowed me to comfortably set the stage for each hunt without forcing me to slow down to prevent sweating out. When the work was done, I didn’t need to immediately layer up to stay warm. It’s surprisingly thin and light given the warmth it provides, which makes it the perfect layering piece as the hunt goes on.
