I like the pants other than the fact the crotch is tight.
Huge fan, the regulars are a little long, but quality and durability and comfortability gets 10 out of 10 in my book.
I have a lot of Sitka clothing. Purchased the back forty pants and after 1 day the zipper ripped out. For clothes this expensive they should be made in America and better quality.
I currently have several pairs of Dakotas and Territory pants. I thought I'd give try these. The pants seem to be high quality and nice material. However, the fit is awkward in the crotch. They are too tight and didn't seem to have the relaxed fit of a Dakota or Territory. I really wanted to like these, but I can't justify keeping some pants that I 'probably won't wear' because of comfort.
DIFFERENT THAN BEFORE
I bought these pants last year in the Lead color and have loved them more than any pants I've had. Best fit and material ever.
I wasn't able to buy another pair in my size until they came out with Birch color, I immediately ordered.
Just got the pants in today, they have changed the fit and material completely. These new ones are tighter and come way far up my stomach for some reason. Reminds me a lot of the Kutana Pants from Kuiu I hated.
Slightly disappointed, I am a huge Sitka fan.
I absolutely love these pants. I've had them for several years and they are staples for me. I have multiple pairs in each color and wear them week in and week out to work while also wearing them in the field when the season rolls around. Only when the temps jump above 100°F do I stop wearing them, but their versatility and durability make them hard to beat in my opinion. I have zero complaints and glad they just released version 2.0!
What's nice about these pants is you can literally wear them to work and then rock them right after in the field!
I have had these pants for a little under a year and I generally really like them, however there are a few drawbacks. As far as pros, I like the fit, the stretchiness, and the durability of the main pants. Cons are that the crotch material is something different and it is already wearing out. I don’t know how much longer until there is a big hole in them. Also, one major drawback is they are terrible in snow as the material just soaks up water. I live in northern Minnesota so we have snow for almost half the year, and even when just walking in non deep snow, the ankles will just soak up water, and it’s pretty annoying.
I’m a general dentist and was wearing sitka’s territory pants to work with a scrub top. My wife complained the territory pants always looked wrinkled. I ordered a pair of these to try in gray. After the first day at work I ordered several more. I can wear these to work, running the tractor, or out to dinner. These are by far my favorite Sitka pant. Just a little stretch, knife pocket, never wrinkle, and super comfortable. Please add more colors and some abrasion resistant material to the front, these make a great foundation for a briar pant.
Tough as nails, comfortable as dress pants, worth every penny.
Awesome pants, they feel and fit better than an old pair of my favorite jeans. The size and slightly tailored fit of these pants are the best I’ve ever worn, they just fit me so well as the sizing runs true. They’re tough yet still light enough to wear in warm weather. The only complaint I have (and what makes this a 4 star review) are the pockets. The rear pockets are fairly small and I’ve had my wallet fall out once, as well as the angle of entry on the front pockets makes it very easy for items like keys to fall out when you sit down. A little adjustment to the pockets on these pants like a zippered rear pocket and adjust the angle of entry on the front pockets and they’d be perfect.
Hands down my favorite pants. I’ve probably worn my original pair 50 times and the material has held up great, it is hard to tell the difference between them and my newest ones. My only comment is they could be a little more tapered, the bottom is a fairly wide opening.
Don't typically write reviews, but these are hands down best pair of pants I own, I would love to get a few more pairs but there always sold out (its no secret why) don't hesitate on these if there available because they won't be for long.
I bought the Back 40, Hanger, and Dakota pants. All are VERY comfortable and all have a pretty good fit. All are expensive, all are Asian or manufactured over seas someplace which is very disappointing. The Dakota pants seem to be the only one worth the money. They are warm and durable. You can save some money on the Back 40 and Hanger pants by going with a nice pair of Carhartt pants or some other brand. The Back 40 snag easily and for the price there are less expensive comparable alternatives. The Hanger pants are a real disappointment. I haven't used them for hunting or walking through fields of brush, if I did they'd be torn to shreds. I've used them for work on the farm and what briar or brush I have encountered has these things picked and snagged all over. They do not fair well. These are not brush pants by any means, work pants are a push, they're just glorified Docker's. Do not recommend.
I was looking for a pant that I could wear around town that looked good and could still head to the hills scouting or shed hunting. These pants are exactly what I wanted. So comfortable, light, fast drying and durable.
From Training in the field, to meeting clients, and ending the day with night out for dinner. I never feel the need to go home and change. The only pant you literally can hunt in and go to a wedding without changing.
Love these pants, super comfortable, I have multiple pairs in both colors. Fabric is tough and stretches just a little. My only complaint is the back pockets need a fastening system either button or velcro, the property of the fabric is slick so mud and other stuff doesn’t stick, that also leads to my wallet falling out when I have it in the back pocket. Great product!
One of the best pair of pants I have owned. Durable construction, comfortable, everyday wearing pants. They are lightweight and look good. I would recommend to anyone.
I wore these pants on a hike the other day and couldn’t believe how comfortable they were best part is they are silent! I got within 30 yards of a doe and she had no clue I was there. From the hills to the house these pants are well worth it!
Great pants overall the reason I took away 1 star was the back pocket is not deep enough and my wallet keeps falling out. I would suggest they add a zipper to their back pocket and it would be a 5 star product
I got these pants back in April for work and they are the best pair of pants that I have bought. They are well worth the money spent. I work with athletes in a sports medicine setting so I am all over the place showing athletes how to perform movements and the pants give and move without worries of them tearing like a normal dress pant. I am going to buy a few more pairs once they come back in stock.
These pants look amazing. I love to wear them to the office and the mountain! Love em!
As with all other 50+ pieces of Sitka gear I have purchased, these pants fit the bill. They feel much more durable than the territory or ascent material. (which is also bulletproof) Like someone else mentioned, they have the feel of a carhart pant but with these, you have exceptional flexibility when squatting down or crawling under equipment. I have not tested in briars yet but they feel as though they will not be prone to snags/tears.
Fit: The ONLY thing I would caution is that these pants are a little bigger in the waste than the other 8 styles I have. Typically, I am a 34x34 and wish I had gone with a 32. Other than that? zero complaints.
These pants are great! I do facility maintenance and the stretch is an added bonus along with the knife pocket. I'm husky and wear a 37R, these fit perfect but only wish they didn't come in a 33 inseam, I am only 5"10 220Lbs. So they are really baggy. I can't pass up the comfort.
Bought two pairs last September. They have made all my other pants obsolete. Rugged, stretchy material. Has held up well with no pilling of the fabric either. They are nice enough that the wife doesn’t ask me to put something else on if we go out for dinner. I do wish they would add an upland version and add some other colors to the line. Get these pants!
From church to working in the at the farm... this are the best everyday pants ive ever had. That have a nice little stretch that allows me to do what I need to do while having a great look to them. Very comfortable fabric. The knife pocket is a great touch. I highly recommend these pants. Another great job by Sitka
By far the most comfortable work pants I have ever worn. I have several brands of work pants in the closet for working in the yard, on the farm, or at my shop, that is where they will stay, in the closet. Huge fan of these pants!!!
Perfect fit. True size! I am 5'10", 165lbs and I normally wear 32r. While sometimes I have to order a 33 from some brands, these pants are a perfect 32x32! I wear these daily and they are perfect for outdoors too. Great fabric will a little stretch to them. the knife pocket does a good job at keeping the knife snug. I recommend these to anyone wanting durable everyday pants.
Overall I am happy with the pants. They do remind me of a good fitting pair of old carharts. They sit a little higher on the waist than most of sitkas other pants. Overall they are true to size. I’m 5’11” and 195 and a 34 regular guys well. They seem durable but that is yet to be determined. I bought these for work/farm pants and my only complaint is that I wish they would put a film or rubber strip in the waistband to keep your t shirt from coming untucked. I have never really had this issue with any other pants, but no matter what I do in these pants, the back of my shirt eventually comes untucked from bending, squatting or kneeling. I’ve resorted to tucking into the underoos. I do more construction, wood cutting, and tractor work than anything. I find myself reaching for my grinder pants and jet stream jacket more than anything else I own
Absolutely awesome pants! As stated in another review, it would be great if Sitka made these pants in an upland hunting version by adding the same material found on the knees and seat of the Timberline Pant to the lower legs of these pants. I know many hunters that would love it if Sitka offered upland specific hunting gear!
My new favorite pants!! A friend asked me what was the big draw for buying these pants and the only thing I could think of was it was like a brand new pair of 10 year old carhartts. Imagine your favorite pair of tough jeans, finally broke in and not so tough on your skin. The back forty pant is my new go to for travel, work and play... if only I can convince the wife to buy me all the available colors...
Absolutely love these pants. I will probably use them for upland hunting under my chaps. Nice finish on them makes them more purr resistant than other Sitka pants. Combine these with the abrasion resistant material on the Timberline pants and Sitka could have a true upland pant. Great as a work pant for around the ranch. Looking forward to the insect-repellant version of these pants coming out next year.
The Back Forty Pant is the perfectly designed pant for guides and everyday use. The fabric used is very comfortable (with some stretch) and the pants fit true to size. The bottom of the pant is constructed perfectly to fit over your shoes or boots, but not to big, where your pants drag the ground. I am a big fan of the knife pocket and the cargo pocket on side is big enough to fit my IPhone 7 Plus with Phoneskope adapter attached. I highly recommend this pant to anyone looking for a very versatile and comfortable everyday pant.
Love the way these pants feel and can't wait to put them to use! These pants can be worn for working or for casual wear because they look great! The only reason I am not giving it the full 4 stars is because the pants ran a little small than the size listed.

Owning the Off-Season
A good coach once told me that “being lucky” is actually just being prepared. It was a valuable lesson and one that also applies to the backcountry. Now is the time to prepare with a purpose, not the week before the season starts.

Bought three pairs of these pants (October 2021) as replacements for some other pants that I had from a different manufacturer. Liked the feel of the fabric and loser fit in legs. For general comfort, I'd give 5/5. Now for the draw backs. Within a month, I started to see piling forming in the crotch. It doesn't look like it has progressed, but that wasn't something I expected given the price point of these pants. In the March, the stitching for the zipper tore in one of the pairs. I took them into the depot and they were assessed and Sitkas amazing warranty covered the repair. The integrated knife sheath could use improvement. I generally carry a CRKT M-16 variant knife, and these have knurled pivot screws. This has accelerated the wear on pocket side of the sheath. Speaking of pockets, I think there needs to be a bit more consideration in the pocket geometry and design. I have had more things fall out of the pockets on these pants than any other pair of pants I have ever owned.
I'm rating this a 3 star. I love this pant. Very comfortable. Fits well in seat and thigh. Great material, 5 stars! Now the 1 star. Length is terrible for a 34T. I'm 6'2" and these are not meant for long legs. I have a 36" inseam. I got one pair that was just over 33" and another pair at 35". I cannot stretch them to fit.
Love the pants and fabric but the crotch/inseam seemed too tight. Had to return.
Fantastic pant and very comfortable. In typical Sitka fashion. they are extremely short.
