Why We Made This

We found a hole in our system when it was too cold for a base layer, but too active to be wearing a puffy jacket. Our solution was to create a high-performance insulating mid-layer with superior breathability for active pursuits. Constructed with a DWR-treated, durable nylon face, the Kelvin Active Hoody can be worn as an outer layer in mild conditions or as a breathable, insulating mid-layer in the late season.

I paired the Kelvin Active Hoody with my Sitka Equinox Turkey gear during this Springs Turkey hunt. It was perfect at reducing the early morning chill without it overheating my body during my hike in the Turkey woods. I kept it on when the temperature rose and felt no heat discomfort. This is the perfect Sitka gear!

Hate to see it go if being discontinued. A great piece. If it came in a solid color I would purchase another one. Great for cool days and also great on very cold days as an extra layer. The insulation is fantastic. I also run a lot of early cold mornings and this is great for my cold morning workouts.

Might be my favorite piece, but only after a seamstress effectively turned the XL into a Large. I’m only 5’11 and am consistently a Large in all things Sitka, but the Large in this was basically a crop top, way too short in the torso. XL was the appropriate length but belled out too much around the middle. Brought my seamstress both sizes and she completely deconstructed it and turned the XL into the same measurements as the Large (only longer in torso). It fits amazing and is totally unique and awesome piece. Liked it enough to order the other color as well. Just wish Sitka had made it longer from the start. If you don’t have an an amazing seamstress or don’t want to spend the extra money on one, it may not be the piece for you.

First- Polartec Alpha is THE active insulation to have- it just works better than any other active insulation out there. Getting the right weight and the right fabric to go with it is the tough part. Sitka got the right fabric- it's "naked" Polartec Alpha on the inside, with a very breathable (and quick drying) outer fabric. This is exactly what you want in active piece- something that lightly insulates and something that breathes well and dries quickly.

BUT you must choose between sleeves or a hood, both of which I want in a piece where I'm moving all day. The hoody has a hood (a nice hood too!), but no sleeves- the jacket has sleeves, but no hood.

Sitka- take this to your design team. The hard work is out of the way- stick w/ Polartec Alpha, stick with the outer fabric and stick with the hood design- simply add longer sleeves and you've got the best active layer jacket on the market.

Awesome lightweight insulation piece. I really enjoy the short sleeve, reduced bulk and very packable, not to mention string clearance. My go to insulation piece August through September. Pair it with the heavyweight hoodie and it's warm to weight ratio is incredible. Also just throwing this on over a base layer for run and gun hunting on chillier days, it wicks away moisture and odor very well! You won't be disappointed.

This piece of Sitka Gear does not get enough attention. It is super light weight, warm and even with short sleeves keeps you pretty toasty at 40 degrees if your moving around. Snags very easily and don't like that at all. So walking through the woods as I do everyday would destroy this piece in about an hour. If your going to put it under something or wear it else where it is awesome.

The early season insulation layer I didn't know I needed. I did not really think I would like this jacket as much as I did. It was my sole insulation layer and it performed flawlessly. Light enough to stuff in a day pack as well. Love the short sleeves for archery. It's actually a great idea. Would reccomend.

Light, quiet, breathable, comfortable, fits well. I primarily use this and the core lightweight hoody for September elk. Throw it on after climbs for chilly morning and evening stalks. Packs small for covering ground through mid-day (or doubles as a napping pillow). Reduces/eliminates layering bulk and bunching. Later in the season, its a great mid layer or active outer layer. Versatile, simple, and well thought out. Nice work Sitka!

Tried this out recently and was really impressed. I wasn’t sure what to think at first but it fits nicely under the Mountain Jacket, and any other mid/outer layer like the core heavyweight hoody for example. Adds that kick of warmth on a chilled day. Super light, packable, breaths well and quiet.
