Behind the Design

Mountain hunting is a pursuit that requires ruthless scrutiny at every turn. If ounces mean pounds, warmth means life and the terrain demands high aerobic output, what insulation layer can rise to that very specific challenge? We set out to build a jacket that is exceptionally warm, highly compressible in a pack and as light as possible. This led us to partner with Primaloft to create an entirely new hybrid down and synthetic insulation package not available anywhere else on the market. The Kelvin Lite Down is the answer to the mountain’s questions.

Obviously a well made jacket and fit is great. The outer material does not seem super durable but have not put it to the test yet. The pockets are mesh lined which is a minus for me. On a windy day you can’t really stand or sit with your hands in your pockets as the wind rips through it. I would use this more as a mid layer for extreme cold temps/wind but a decent jacket no less.

We both love them and will be purchasing more from Sitka. The warmth is amazing and the quality is top notch.

A well made jacket, with one flaw. The pockets are lined with mesh, not a solid fabric. This means that if you have your hands in your pockets on a windy day, the wind blows through your pockets and into the inside of the jacket. Fit is true to size, hood is appropriately sized for use without a helmet.

I love this jacket. It's extremely warm and cozy. the bomber style wraps around you, but the back is cut lower so you don't get the cold plumber crack thing that happens when you sit or bend over. It has a little sound to it, so I wouldn't recommend it for bow hunting unless it was layered under a quiet outer shell like the jetstream. But I wouldn't hesitate to wear it rifle hunting, sitting in the blind, or even casual wear out on the town. The pockets are the largest I've ever seen on a jacket. Add this down jacket to your sleeping system and you can probably double your sleeping system rating.

Look, I'm as cheap as they come. I've tried almost every brand of hunting clothing out there and if I haven't tried it, I promise I've spent countless hours researching it. I'm the kind of person that will spend 4 hours researching a $20 product and comparing it before a purchase. I can say with absolute certainty that Sitka is the BEST clothing line on the market. Not just hunting clothes, but best overall. Their clothes are cozy, durable, and designed to keep you extremely comfortable with minimal layers and bulk. You can buy other brands and replace them every few years, or buy Sitka and your set for decades if not life. Buy once cry once!

Bottom line is this isn't clothing, its equipment. More than that, it's equipment that could quite literally save your life in the back country. Once you realize that, the price is absolutely justifiable. I trust this company so much that I will buy their stock if they go public and I'd quit my job to work for them if they have an opening. That is how much I believe in Sitka.

I was able to submit an exchange and Sitkagear worked with me to find the right product for me. I ended up just going up a size and I have to say the large fits so well and it is so warm. I bought this coat to hunt big game out West and it does that job perfectly. I have used it in Illinois whitetail hunting and if you throw a light jacket over the puffy, it kills the noise. This jacket is light, warm, and I haven't rain it through the briars but has been durable so far including in the duck blind. The reason I gave it four stars is the cut under the arms isn't quite right for me but no coat is going to be perfect for the entire population. I like enough I'm trying to decide what color to buy for my everyday coat. It'll come in handy with a lot of air travel.

In all honesty the jacket is really over engineered. I don’t really understand the body mapped insulation in the back, it was definitely a cold spot for me. I think the jacket would’ve been better and maybe a little lighter if they put the down/synthetic mix there. Don’t get me wrong jacket is very well built but just a touch heavy and over engineered.

Would be a 5* but the fit just bothers me. Feel and warmth is awesome in this jacket IMO. Its truly one of my favorite offerings from Sitka. However if you have a longer torso then it just doesnt fit well as it is just to short to be comfortable. It almost fits like a wading jacket vs a nice warm puffy to wear.
I did notice that wind will go RIGHT THROUGH it though (which isnt uncommon for puffys) but man when I wore it on a windy day I almost froze lol.

I really really wish they offered this in tall sizes and it would be a for sure keeper for me. Wish list would be add the wind proof layer from the rover to it as well and then you would have the best puffy on the market.

Also, this jacket is not crazy noisy. A down jacket will never be quiet. This is no more or less noisy than any other down jacket I’ve owned. So if your not buying this coat because of the reviews on noise, ignore those comments. This is quieter than the ultra down, super down.

Almost a perfect jacket, but it's my favorite piece nonetheless. Got the black for casual use but climbed a 14er in it today and it worked flawlessly layers over a fleece baselayer and the Heavyweight Hoody. 5° at the trailhead and wore it the entire hike up to 14,200 ft. Wind gusts up to 25mph in the teens temps were handled no problem and the pockets dumped heat nicely when opened. Durable against some branches that scraped up against it. Didn't even need a shell for the summit, kept me warm and blocked wind as if it had windstopper. Yeah I wish it was quieter for the hunting purposes and maybe had an additional chest pocket, but otherwise this is a perfect winter later for when you don't need to step up into the Down WS jacket.

I wear this at night around camp as it is super comfortable. This jacket is not for busting brush, hiking, stalking, this jacket is great to throw in your pack hike to the top of the mountain and throw on and glass comfortably and have the patience from being comfortable to look in every nook and cranny. Bought a black one on sale to use as a mid layer for hunting. Ended up using it all winter for my main go-to coat. Super warm and super lightweight. It is noisy for use as an outer layer, and the nylon shell seems too flimsy for busting brush. What it is good for, is a packable mid layer that is the warmest I have ever tried. Not really a viable outer layer in heavy brush hunting. It also makes a good car coat in very cold weather. Super light and super warm. I might pick up another one in camo for keeping in my hunting pack, and use the black one for every day use.

Amazing jacket. Highly recommended, especially for everyday use.

Usage: I use this for everyday wear but I will probably buy another one for hunting.

This jacket is extremely well designed and fits great. It is also extremely warm for how light weight it is, I don't understand it. I have worn this on the Maine seacoast in low single digits with high winds and have felt comfortable. I have worn this in 40 degree and felt comfortable. It has a very good comfort range.

As others have said, it is definitely loud for a hunting jacket. However, if I wear it as more of a base layer and put a thin jacket over it, it is better for sound. Especially if I am just hunting in a stand all day and not moving too much. My only worry is the material feels like it could tear if I go through very thick brush.

I read all the reviews on this jacket. It did have some negative reviews but the positives out weighted the negatives so I bought it anyways. It was exactly the piece I needed to throw in a backpack and hunt cold weather. When the jacket came I was impressed with the quality and fit, the pockets, the pit was well executed except for how loud it was. I can't hunt anything with a jacket being this loud. What a bummer, so I sent it back. If Sitka can solve the noise crinkle problem with this jacket I'll buy it again. My size is 6'1 - 210-220lbs 46 chest and the XL fits fine with the ability to put a layer or two underneath.

I recently purchased this Kelvin Lite Down Jacket as an insulation layer to my 3 season work coat. This is my 1st puffy jacket ever and was concerned about how lightweight it is and how can it keep me warm in single digit temps when it's this lightweight. But omg it does. It's the craziest thing. The only con that I can come up with, is that it is loud. Especially with the hood up, and I don't know how durable it will be. But I bought the black one for everyday wear so noise isn't a big deal. Im 140lbs, 5'7 and got a medium and fits perfect. Jacket seems to be well made and durable outside material so should withstand walks in the woods. Im giving it a 4 stars due to 2 things. First the way you pack your jacket into itself, sitka didn't put a two way zipper on it so it makes for zipping it together a bit more tedious. Just seems silly they didn't put one in as its very common in other packable jackets. The other thing is there is a crinkle to the jacket. I would assume it's the inner lining making the noise but it's louder than expected.

It also has a lot more fill than I expected. Just ordered a second for an every day winter puffy here in Alaska. Buy it and don’t look back. I plan to use this down to about freezing, anything below that I’ll break out the WS. It definitely has a bit of noise to the fabric, but it’s a trade off I’ll gladly make considering this has a more durable fabric than most down jackets, and the durability is obvious. I’d rather it make a little noise opposed to it leaking down all over the mountains.

I can't begin to explain how this jacket has changed my outdoor adventures in chilly temps. I use it hunting, fishing and hiking around in winter temps in UP of Michigan. This jacket builds a mini climate of perfection inside itself while you wear it. If you are sitting around you stay warm. If you are walking around or even backpacking you stay cool enough. It does an amazing job at keeping your body regulated, especially nice for me since my body sucks at it. The only take back is its not in women's. Definitely get it!!! The build quality is extremely high, as we are accustom to with Sitka. Its very warm, for sure and the added insurance policy of the synthetic insulation baked in to the jacket is great. I also think the hood design is nice because it fits tightly to the head and provides good warmth. However, the two things about this jacket that turn me away from this jacket are the material is pretty "crinkly" I dont know how else to describe it, and the bottom of the jacket has an elastic hem on it which I assume it to trap as much warm air as possible but in my experience it makes the jacket ride up uncomfortably. I'm 5'10 and 180lbs and the large fits great everywhere except the waist area, due to the elastic.

It is a performance fit so no layers would fit under this at the current size for me so I returned it and got a size medium and that made all the difference in the world. What an awesome company with awesome products!

Initial impressions are great with this new piece. It packs down incredibly well and the craftsmanship is nothing short of immaculate. Fall cannot come soon enough!
Sizing: I'm 5'10" 190lbs 45" chest, 34-36 waist, broad shoulders, 35.5" long arms.
Ordered this in a Large and I'm very pleased with the fit; as if it's tailored for me. Enough room to layer some underneath yet fitted enough to throw a shell on over top when needed. For reference I wear a Large Tall in the Core Lightweight Hoody and Kelvin Active Jacket and both fit perfectly; sized up in my Jetstream to an XL to accommodate laying for cold Canadian hunting and the XL Jetstream slips on over top the size Large Kelvin Lite Down Jacket like a glove.
If you're on the fence about ordering this piece, I'd recommend going for it. I'm thrilled that I pulled the trigger and have zero buyers remorse.
Thank you Sitka by golly you've done it again!

What a puffy! This is like walking around in a sleeping bag. It's instant warmth when you put it on, regardless of wind. I sent with an XL for 6'/210lb frame and it fit really nicely. Plenty of mobility in the arms. I upsize my Jetstream andiand felt great underneath for that added windprotection. The hood came around my head without making me feel trapped. My hearing was not really affected. A must have for mountain pursuits.
