Behind the Design

Mountain hunting is a pursuit that requires ruthless scrutiny at every turn. If ounces mean pounds, warmth means life and the terrain demands high aerobic output, what insulation layer can rise to that very specific challenge? We set out to build a jacket that is exceptionally warm, highly compressible in a pack and as light as possible. This led us to partner with Primaloft to create an entirely new hybrid down and synthetic insulation package not available anywhere else on the market. The Kelvin Lite Down is the answer to the mountain’s questions.

Amazing puffy…I don’t know what else you would say. The fit is outstanding (6’4”, 210 lbs 46” chest, size XL), build quality is great, packs down to nothing and is SUPER warm. It also has a lot more fill than I expected. Just ordered a second for an every day winter puffy here in Alaska. Buy it and don’t look back. I plan to use this down to about freezing, anything below that I’ll break out the WS. It definitely has a bit of noise to the fabric, but it’s a trade off I’ll gladly make considering this has a more durable fabric than most down jackets, and the durability is obvious. I’d rather it make a little noise opposed to it leaking down all over the mountains.

This is the best jacket i have ever owned. I use it for every day use! I should disclose I'm a female that purchased this in a M, because there was no small. It is not a perfect fit because I am trying to fit it on a thinner frame. I am also a natural chilly person. I can't begin to explain how this jacket has changed my outdoor adventures in chilly temps. I use it hunting, fishing and hiking around in winter temps in UP of Michigan. This jacket builds a mini climate of perfection inside itself while you wear it. If you are sitting around you stay warm. If you are walking around or even backpacking you stay cool enough. It does an amazing job at keeping your body regulated, especially nice for me since my body sucks at it. The only take back is its not in women's. Definitely get it!!! Don't look at the price just buy!

The build quality is extremely high, as we are accustom to with Sitka. Its very warm, for sure and the added insurance policy of the synthetic insulation baked in to the jacket is great. I also think the hood design is nice because it fits tightly to the head and provides good warmth. However, the two things about this jacket that turn me away from this jacket are the material is pretty "crinkly" I dont know how else to describe it, and the bottom of the jacket has an elastic hem on it which I assume it to trap as much warm air as possible but in my experience it makes the jacket ride up uncomfortably. I'm 5'10 and 180lbs and the large fits great everywhere except the waist area, due to the elastic.

I am a huge Sitka GEAR fan and am the first to recommend their products to people. That said, I think they missed the mark with the Kelvin Lite Down Jacket. Yes... it still has the same Sitka excellent build quality that you are accustom too. It is also very light, packable, and very warm. However, it is very very loud - like opening up a bag of potato chips. I didn't expect a puffer jacket to be silent, but this jacket is substantially louder than any other packable puffer jacket I have tried.

Just made it back from an 11 day hunt in the Bitterroots. I wore the new Kelvin Lite Down almost exclusively. Morning till evening. Snow fell, a light rain came and went and not once did I put on the Cloudburts. The DWR finish shed water effortlessly. Stuck to wearing a heavyweight merino underneath the entire time and not once was I cold nor felt any breeze through the jacket. Temps ranged from 10-60 degrees. Wore the jacket while active and while glassing. It exceeded my expectations and then some. I’ve owned every Kelvin lite jacket Sitka has produced through the last 10 years and they definitely knocked this one out of the park. I’m 5’1” 190lbs and the XL fits perfect. Enough room for a base layer and even a mid layer merino if need be. The jacket also fits comfortably under any hard shell and even the soft shells like the Timberline and Mountain. This one will be with me on every outing.

Worth the money I’m 5’6” 170 ordered a medium fit is great so warm I was elk hunting in 14 degrees with wiping wind.

I wear this as a mid layer under the Jetstream so I don’t hear the noise. I don’t think it’s noisy and it’s super warm. Very light and stays in my pack for added warmth.

This is probably my favorite jacket for any cold weather conditions. After hunting in snow and low single digits coupled with the wind chill it kept my core warm all morning long. The Pockets are also really oversized inside so it makes it pretty nice on the hands. What a great jacket all around.

Used this jacket in my system for Colorado archery elk hunting this September. Kept me comfortable when temps got down to 15 degrees with only a base layer and the Apex Hoody underneath. The underarm area doesn't have a lot of extra material which I like. The hood is my favorite out of all the Sitka gear I own as of right now. I'm 6'4" 190 lbs and an XL fits great. Packs down nicely and is light. Highly recommend!

I'm 5'10" and 175 lbs. I have a bunch of Sitka gear and I'm really impressed with this piece of kit. I have the Kelvin lite, Kelvin and Kelvin Down Hoody for really cold and long sits. I'm always looking for the most versatile pieces that can minimize the need for choosing the right piece for hunt but provide me the greatest options. The new Kelvin Lite Down Jacket is that piece. Super light, super warm and very compressible for packing as a puffy insulating layer. I order it in a large and the fit is perfect. I have room enough to layer over the my Jetstream jacket. If I wear it underneath the fit is good too with ample arm articulation and ease of movement. The Jetstream is the only piece I have had to go up a size in. I wear an XL in Jetstream for layering. The only concern is the extra material length in the arms of the Jetstream jacket when layering over top but that's true for all the Sitka pieces I have. The hood fits really nice too. This is a must have piece in your line up!

This Kelvin jacket seems to be an improvement on the Kelvin Lite Hoody which I currently own and the body mapping of the insulation is strategically placed in all of the right places. Unbelievably lightweight for the amount of warmth this jacket produces. Unfortunately for me, I am 6'0 and 165 lbs. so the medium is too short and the large is too wide. They really need to offer this jacket in Tall sizes for individuals such as myself. Will be returning until Tall sizes are available. Otherwise, for someone who does fit the standard sizing structure and doesn't require a tall like many of us do, I could easily see where this would be my new go-to jacket based upon the design and construction of this piece.

I am 5’7” 170lbs, ordered a medium, and it fits perfectly. The outer shell material feels like it’s going to be much more resistant to tears and wind in comparison to the Patagonia nano puff I currently run.

I purchased this in a size small because I am a small guy at 145 ish pounts and 5'8. It is a performance fit so no layers would fit under this at the current size for me so I returned it and got a size medium and that made all the difference in the world. What an awesome company with awesome products!

Initial impressions are great with this new piece. It packs down incredibly well and the craftsmanship is nothing short of immaculate. Fall cannot come soon enough!
Sizing: I'm 5'10" 190lbs 45" chest, 34-36 waist, broad shoulders, 35.5" long arms.
Ordered this in a Large and I'm very pleased with the fit; as if it's tailored for me. Enough room to layer some underneath yet fitted enough to throw a shell on over top when needed. For reference I wear a Large Tall in the Core Lightweight Hoody and Kelvin Active Jacket and both fit perfectly; sized up in my Jetstream to an XL to accommodate laying for cold Canadian hunting and the XL Jetstream slips on over top the size Large Kelvin Lite Down Jacket like a glove.
If you're on the fence about ordering this piece, I'd recommend going for it. I'm thrilled that I pulled the trigger and have zero buyers remorse.
Thank you Sitka by golly you've done it again!

What a puffy! This is like walking around in a sleeping bag. It's instant warmth when you put it on, regardless of wind. I sent with an XL for 6'/210lb frame and it fit really nicely. Plenty of mobility in the arms. I upsize my Jetstream andiand felt great underneath for that added windprotection. The hood came around my head without making me feel trapped. My hearing was not really affected. A must have for mountain pursuits.
