This hoodie is a staple in my waterfowl gear. Its kept me warm/dry in some of the worst conditions I've ever seen in the marsh. I also have worn it on the side of the road with truck problems just because I know its my warmest piece of clothing I own. I love the pockets (especially the chest zip) at first the hood seams sort of useless because its so thin and goes over your head weird. But after 3 seasons of hard use the hood is warm as hell and doesn't obstruct your vision while in the blind. Defiantly one of the best pieces on the market and worth its weight in gold
First piece of Sitka’s waterfowl line I have purchased, jacket is super warm but still regulates body temp and breathes well, love the hoody and how it moves with your head, keeps wind out and does a pretty good job of heading up rain. However after my first hunt with this jacket there are multiple little snags everywhere very disappointed in the durability of this jacket especially coming from Sitka.
Great hoodie for when temps are low. Super comfortable, kills the wind, keeps you warm. Hand warmer pocket is awesome.
Took it out on a hunt where we were supposed to have light rain, I'm thinking the water resistant hoodie will probably be enough. Well we had a lot more rain than we expected, but the hoodie help up fantastic. The only wet spots underneath were at the seams (I wish the seams were taped). Even when completely soaked, the front hand warmer kept your hands warm. Great insulation even when wet.
The Dakota Hoody is one of my favorite pieces of Sitka Gear that I own. Durable, windproof, and cut to accommodate multiple layering options when the temperatures start to dip; the kangaroo pouch is a lifesaver on cold mornings with no gloves when you're running a call! The hood design is much improved over the previous version and the standard vs performance cut really made a difference in wearability for me. I can use this jacket as an outer down to the 30s, a must have for the days when you see a 30 plus temp swing from sunrise to midday.
Absolutely love this Hoody! It works great for the majority of the season in NW Missouri and keeps the cool wind away from your body. When that nasty NW Wind starts blowing, the Dakota works perfectly under the Hudson jacket. Some folks might say that’s too much insulation, but as I age, I get colder easier. With Sitka Gear, I never get cold anymore! Great piece of equipment that I recommend everyone have in their arsenal!
Being a veteran duck hunter with over 20 years in the field, I've been through a ton of different jackets. This last season I put the new (2019) Dakota Hoody through its paces. This jacket has been through it all; from climbing through barb wire fences, pushing through briar patches, in and over the side of frozen Jon boats, laying in blinds across the corn stubble, standing around for hours in the flooded timber, and even laying back against the side of a frozen dam. This last season I hunted this jacket from no layers at 60 degrees; and then all the way down to a wind chill in the teens with nothing but a synthetic base layer and a light sweater underneath. No matter the wind speed, it does not cut through this jacket.
This has allowed for an insanely low number of layers needed to stay warm. The lack of layering needed, and the flexibility this has allowed is game changing compared to my old bulky jacket with layers. Getting around, through tight spaces, and allowing for ease of gun swing is second to none in my opinion. This was my first go around with Sitka as a brand, and I'm already planning a full system out for the next season. I wanted to give it a full season to see how well it performed, and to see how it held up through our harsh hunting environments. After nearly 45 days in the field hunting, and another 25 days in the field fishing, it looks practically new. There are absolutely no tears, holes, or worn areas to be seen.
When it's all said and done, this thing just flat out performs. If you're wanting to run light weight and low bulk, yet stay warm, this is the way to go. In time of extreme bitter cold, below the teens, it can easily be layered under another puffy jacket if needed. Even though this is named as a hoody, it is far from the hoody in which I envisioned. It is so much more.
Great piece of clothing, layered with my Dakota vest on the colder days it is perfect! A very versatile piece great job!
I have made this my go to piece of sitka gear. I spend 95% of the year out in the field both for work, and waterfowl hunting, and this has become my winter coat. I have worn in in -10 degree hunts where i used it as a jacket layered under appropriately, but not excessively. Goretex Infinium is something that you easily underestimate the value of until you compare it to something without. If youre questioning the purchase of this, go for it, its the best hunting product I own.
Best coat i have ever bought, very warm, breathable, lightweight and all around best coat i have ever worn.;
great product definitely worth every penny
This thing is a serious winner for winter. As advertised, totally windproof... extremely warm and comfortable. I've been mostly using it fishing so far this season and I am really into the water resistant durable exterior. I couldn't be happier with this hoody, its more like a fleece jacket version of a hoody. Merino base layer plus this takes me well below freezing. Medium fit me just right. Love that I don't have to use another mid layer under this... its a mid-layer fleece and softshell in one. Highly recommend as worth the cost.
I own a variety of Sitka gear products, but this has become my go-to in the field. It is extremely comfortable and warm and the quality is unmatched. The only thing I wish it had are higher hand warmer pockets, as opposed to the lower ones. Still, it's a 5 Star product, no doubt.
Nailed it. I wanted something that was the "anti-layering layer." IE one layer I could wear over a base layer on cold, windy days without bringing extra layers. I didn't want any down or delicate fabrics. This thing stops the cold Colorado wind in its tracks. Its warm. Its comfortable. Its durable for actual use in the mountains and in the brush and brambles. It isn't too tight, but isn't too baggy. Has a form fitting hood. Drawstring adjustment at the waist. Zip kangaroo pocket with nice thick high-pile fleece to warm your hands. Zippered chest pocket. I love the fact that there are no open pockets to drop items out of. I mean literally this has absolutely every feature I was looking for and nothing more. Extremely happy with this purchase.Pretty much the perfect winter layer for the Colorado outdoors, and the perfect piece for lower output activities like fishing, duck hunting, or just being outside in general. Definitely recommend.
This is my second season with this hoody and all I can say is WOW. This has been the best purchase I have made for waterfowl hunting. If you want to stay warm and dry this is the piece for you whether its early season or late season. With minimal layers you can stay warm especially with the wind stopper technology. For any one interested in trying out Sitka Gear for the first time I strongly recommend this to my hunting buddies because of its versatility as an insulation layer or outer layer. I am 5-11 220 pounds and Large was a perfect fit with still room to layer underneath
I am 5'10" and 150 lbs, picked up the medium and tested it twice so far. It fits perfect. I use it as my outer shell below freezing with a thin columbia fleece and a merino wool base layer underneath. It blocks wind great, hood is tight and good for staying warm. Pockets and inside have the best liners, jacket cuffs fit perfect. Above freezing I was able to wear just the base layer underneath with no fleece in 25 mph wind. This thing is warm. It makes a slight noise but still quiet enough to hunt in.
My favorite piece of hunting equipment!! I can not think of a way to improve it, warm, comfortable, and awesome!!
Thank you for making it!!!
Being from Kansas, we see some hefty winds. This keeps you warm and does not let wind through whatsoever. The pockets are roomy and are also very warm. It is not thick and heavy but still gets the job done! You won't need many layers either, even when it is below freezing. Sitka gear is pricey, but is worth every penny in my eyes!
This has to be the most comfortable sweat shirt I’ve ever had on and it’s a true fit with a little room for layering underneath stops wind dead in its tracks and keeps you a lot warmer than expected I will NEVER take to the field without it amazing product
Bought the brand new Dakota hoody and I gotta say I’m extremely impressed with the craftsmanship of this piece of gear. I did not own the original Dakota but the features on this hoody are unreal. The adjustable hem for around the waist is probably my favorite to help keep the clothing tight around your waist to really keep the jacket insulated! And the gortex infinium really took this piece over the top!
I Bought this Hoody for Duck & Goose hunting in NorthWest Nebraska late December and early January. Not only is this product insanely comfortable but its incredibly warm. I ran a pair of merino Wool long underwear with the Dakota vest underneath in -27 weather will slight precipitation and stayed warm and dry the entire hunt out of the blind. The next day we were in layouts in a corn field with almost equal weather but add wind. again i stayed warm and dry for the entire hunt. if you are hunting anything in double digits you dont even need the vest underneath. you truly get what you pay for with this product and i highly recommend it for any and all waterfowl hunters.
Just received the new Dakota Hoody. The stretching material is awesome and helps for a better fit. I’m 5’ 10” about 218 lbs and the xl fit is perfect. The stretchy material is just below the upper shoulder section which allows for more movement especially when layering. It also seems to be a little roomer and the draw string is great, I had the previous model which is also an awesome piece but definitely stiffer and more restrictive. Can’t wait to try it out in the field.
Had the older style dakota hoody. In my opinion the sleeves were a little short and was also tight in the shoulder. But, it was still one of my favorite pieces. Order the new dakota hoody and just got it in yesterday. The sleeves seem to be longer and shoulder area feels great on the new model. Also the added draw string will be nice in the waistline. A+
The new version of the Dakota Hoody is a serious improvement to what was an already stellar piece of gear. Comfy cozy inside like before with better sleeve and torso fit, added a draw string at the waist, and it seems like the new goretex Infinium has allowed for it to be a softer, quieter, more pliable garment then it was previously, while still feeling durable. I can already tell his thing is gonna get some heavy use this season. Well done boys!

The Dakota hoody did well on the few duck hunts I used it on this past season, but the real test came this week when temps. where I live in Texas went down into the single digits. I wore it while checking for busted pipes, wrapping plants, busting ice off our driveway and sidewalk, and going up into the attic to add insulation to pipes. I also used it as my outer layer inside the house when we were without power for 24 hours. After seeing how it performed through all that, I'm convinced that the Dakota hoody is worth its weight in gold. It's definitely a piece I'll never do without.
Nice jacket, for the most part it is very waterproof, keeps the water out better than my Columbia rain jacket. One thing I do not like about it is that it is too loose. I am 140 lbs and 6 foot tall so pretty skinny. It is not a slim fit. Without it being a slim fit, it just does not keep me as warm as it could. I normally have to wear a sweatshirt or vest under it for insulation in 30-40 temps.
Don’t look any further, just buy this jacket. Great protection from the elements with a ton of warmth. The hoodie pocket is great for warming up your hands. Will not disappoint.
This thing is the best thing since sliced bread. The Dakota hoody is so comfortable and fits perfectly to size. This was my first piece of gear from the waterfowl line and definitely won’t be my last!
