Why We Made This

Mountain hunting comes with its own unique challenges: cold temps, biting wind, rain, and snow. To tackle these varied obstacles, hunters typically have to carry many different items while trying to maintain breathability and–more importantly–stealth and traditional soft shells were too heavy and not compressible. Our goal was to develop a single garment that would be fully windproof, water-resistant, lightweight and breathable all within a quiet face fabric. In short, we designed a jacket you can wear 90% of the time.

Light for sure and blocks wind adequately- wear over my fanatic hoody. That combo will get ya to 40degrees w a 15mph wind. Anymore and you need an additional layer. NOISY!!!!!!! Have rain gear less noisy.

I layer it over the fanatic hoodie and it’s decent at cutting the wind down to 40degrees here in the Midwest. Below 40 and approaching 30 I add a Kuiu guide jacket over that set. Great combo used in this way. It’s exceptionally thin so great for layering.

It’s NOISY when worn as a top layer!!! I have rain gear that’s less noisy.

Best used as a mid layer for additional wind protection.

That being said I consider it grossly overpriced.

Jacket is very light and easy to pack plus gives the windproof barrier for an outer shell. If you need an extra light wind breaker then this is it just be aware there is no liner and cutting the wind is it’s only purpose.

I have a decent collection of Sitka gear. This jacket is my go-to jacket on windy days. It is thin and stops the wind. It is water repellent enough to take on moderate spray during long boat rides. For duck hunting in FL I use the core lt weight hoody (60-75deg) or the Traverse jacket (40-60deg) and wear this jacket as a shell. This jacket takes up very little space in my pack and has held up well over the last 3 seasons. I liked the jackets so much that I bought a second one. I am 6'4" 240lbs and the XXLT fits well with a little extra room for a layer or two if needed.

Not quiet at all and way to thin to be warm. You can’t put your hands in the pockets without noise. Disappointed

This is not a jacket or even a wind breaker. Very thin, very noisy and not waterproof at any level. I am not sure the purpose of this piece of clothing. I wanted to use it as an outer shell but it is cut small so you can’t layer anything more then a t shirt or thin hoody.

Super quiet jacket! Feels awesome, looks great and rolls up into almost nothing to fit in a pack leaving plenty of room for other stuff in the pack. This in combination with the heavy weight hoodie worked well for me in 40 degree temps and wind at 20mph. Very happy with my purchase!

Well made jacket does it job in 50 degree days with one layer easy 35 degree days with layers. Pretty quiet and durable. I use it walking through thick cover and saddle stand. Def recommend and for half off sale going on can’t beat it!

At first when I ordered this jacket I was reading through the reviews and got very nervous because of all the bad reviews but it came in after 5 days and I am very proud with it. It isn’t the jacket you would buy to stay warm on a 30 degree morning but is perfect on a day with 30 mph winds

Absolutely one of my favorite pieces from Sitka. It’s amazing how with proper layering and application I can have this swing all the way from super early season as a piece to cut the early morning wind chill. All the way to helping with multiple layers in later mid season. Absolutely the best ultralight weight wind stopper jacket on the market. My only complaint is wish they made them in a few solids. It would be the perfect general use jacket.

If you treat this jacket as if it is a shirt you will like it and that is how I view this piece. It is a zippered shirt.

I live and bow hunt in Louisiana. I wanted something that I could take out west in September but then also use the majority of the time here. Honestly, when I received this jacket I was fairly disappointed at first at what it was and almost sent it back. It is a very, very light jacket. BUT, after hunting with this, I couldn't be happier. I've worn this with a t-shirt underneath in 70 degree weather and layered with a merino wool base and a vest in 35 degree weather. Both hunting scenarios are extremely comfortable. The windstopper is unbelievable. I would have never guessed that I would have liked this jacket. The biggest hang up for me is the price you pay for this, but honestly, the value of this jacket is worth the cost.

As with most Sitka products, the fit, finish and overall quality of this jacket is outstanding. I purchased this jacket for very early season whitetail hunting in warm weather. It has gotten several negative reviews related to its lack of warmth. The jacket isn't intended to be warm. It's a lightweight, windbreaking shell. The reason for my low rating is that the jacket is absurdly noisy. It is hands down the noisiest piece in my collection, and I have a LOT of Sitka gear. For Sitka to claim that this jacket is "deadly quiet" is downright absurd. Sitka simply missed the mark with this piece.

While light and breathable, it does stop wind well. However it is absolutely not for any level of rain other than a light mist. During an elk hunt I tested this jacket and found the sleeves of my mid layer were soaked within minutes during a moderate rain. After prolonged rain my entire upper half was wet. The fabric is very light and good for windy conditions, just don't use this in any weather beyond a light, short duration rain.

Probably the most useless Sitka piece to me, it’s nothing but a wind breaker shell, so zero insulation. Very over priced for what it is, I get so much more use out of the Jetstream jacket and vest than the Mountain versions. Better off spending your money on the jetstream stuff that has the perfect amount of insulation for an active jacket or milder weather with wind protection.

Best pullover ever! I do understand that there is so much to offer in this pullover, but it is a little pricey. Although, it's worth paying for. I would rate it a 4.5 stars if I was given the option.

I picked up this jacket on sale earlier this year at a local Bob Wards, and I absolutely love it! So far it's been on backcountry fishing trips, some shed hunts, as well as a successful black bear hunt. It has performed great! I've worn it through some unexpected lighter rain storms and each time the rain has simply beaded up and fallen off; not a single drop coming through which was fantastic! It breaks the wind when glassing from chilly ridge tops, and if warm weather calls it packs down to barely take up any space in the pack - First impressions are great, and I can't wait to use it for the upcoming Bow/Rifle season here in SW Montana - And hopefully many years to come! Thanks Sitka!

I've had this jacket 2 years now. Ordered this jacket online and was instantly worried after pulling it out of the box, But because it is made by sitka, I wanted to give it a try and after 2 years here is my review.... I regret buying this jacket. It gets 2 stars because I like the subalpine pattern. For the price!! it is by far the most disappointed I've ever been with sitka gear. I hunt elk and mule deer in the mountains during archery and rifle seasons. In Oregon during september it snows sometimes(gets cold) this jacket just isn't enough even when layering.
Being Unimpressed is an understatement, the mountain pants and gloves I purchased at the same time are awesome, no complaints there at all.. even the cold weather hoody is amazing!

Sweet jacket!

Great windproof and breathable jacket. Manages temp very well for how lite it is. Sized up so I could use it with a good mid layer. The reason I gave 4 stars is due to no cinch on the cuffs. Not a deal breaker but would be really nice to be able to cinch up the cuffs.

I really like this jacket for what it’s use is, an outer layer to an undershirt and a sweatshirt and it fits great on me. The thing I really don’t like is it is super loud and that frustrates me because I planned on using it for grouse hunting and duck hunting and it’s painfully loud when walking for grouse or jumping ponds for ducks. I usually now will wear a different jacket on top of it for anything walking.

I have been an outfitter in Montana for 35 years and wear sitka gear, exclusively. The clothing has always met or exceeded any of my expectations. I recently ordered the new Mountain Jacket and was very disappointed. For what it cost, it is nothing more than a very expensive windbreaker. With that said, I really like and use a lot of other sitka gear, but can't endorse the Mountain Jacket.

Thoroughly impressed!

When I first received this jacket I thought "Really, this is it?"(I purchase on line without actually putting my hands on the jacket) It has now become the cornerstone of my spring and summer scouting/hunting. I can't tell you enough how impressed I am with this jacket. I spend my day in a 200grm wool long sleeve base layer. In the morning this jacket is the ultimate compliment for staying warm in the cool spring and summer mornings. If the wind kicks up you realize right away what this ultralight jacket was made for. I can spend an entire day out in the woods with said base layer and this jacket. I know they call it a mountain jacket but I would liken it to a zip up wind stopper shirt (get a size larger if you plan on using it as a jacket for multilayers underneath it). The jacket is water resistant and I have waited out a light rain/thunderstorm in it and did not get wet. It weighs almost nothing, packs as small as a t-shirt. I am impressed! This is the first season on this jacket so I didn't give it 5 stars because I don't know the durability just yet but did I say I am impressed. I am looking forward to Sept hunting in the mountains and believe this jacket a wool base layer and a jet stream vest will be everything needed as long as no heavy rain is in the forecast. I have spent several upper 40deg mornings with this jacket and just a wool base layer hiking and it's perfect for me. Sitting on stand in 50deg weather with the same setup and I am comfortable. I treat it mostly as a 2nd layer (windproof shirt) and it's been amazing at keeping the heat in while keeping the wind and cool out. Now that summer is hear I am serious contemplating the mountain vest.
