Why We Made This

Mid-season hunting is known for its constantly changing environmental conditions, and it’s difficult to find a pant that can perform at a high level within such unpredictability. We sought to deliver a versatile and fully-featured, mid-season hunting pant that will perform in these varied situations. We built the Mountain Pant to be durable, breathable and harder-working so that when you’re trudging uphill, you can focus on the hunt and not your pants.

Great early season archery pants, can handle colder weather with a thicker base layer. Also great for turkey season. Super quiet.

Very comfortable pants. I was skeptical of how they would fair in cold weather and their durability. But I put them to the test in Kansas on a pheasant hunt. I layered them with light wool in 12 degree weather with a windchill of -4 and miles of walking through chest high brush, milo fields, and CRP. I ended up taking off the wool base layer after the first 20 minutes. You probably wouldn't want to bushwhack in them everyday, but they held up just fine for 3 days of it. I do wish they had more pockets though and more secure buttons on the cargo pockets.

I'm always surprised at how little clothing I need when wearing Sitka. Everyone I hunt with is always too hot or too cold. On the other hand, I'm always perfectly comfortable. I don't know how Sitka does this. It's almost like they made custom clothing just for me, but it works for everyone.

Look, I'm as cheap as they come. I've tried almost every brand of hunting clothing out there and if I haven't tried it, I promise I've spent countless hours researching it. I'm the kind of person that will spend 4 hours researching a $20 product and comparing it before a purchase. I can say with absolute certainty that Sitka is the BEST clothing line on the market. Not just hunting clothes, but best overall. Their clothes are cozy, durable, and designed to keep you extremely comfortable with minimal layers and bulk. You can buy other brands and replace them every few years, or buy Sitka and your set for decades if not life. Buy once cry once!

Bottom line is this isn't clothing, its equipment. More than that, it's equipment that could quite literally save your life in the back country. Once you realize that, the price is absolutely justifiable. I trust this company so much that I will buy their stock if they go public and I'd quit my job to work for them if they have an opening. That is how much I believe in Sitka.

Absolutely incredible pants in every area. I wear them for warmth, comfort, functionality and bought multiple pairs. I use them for motorcycle riding, hunting, skiing with a waterproof shell and for casual wear. They have no flaws as is but I would recommend Sitka add a left back pocket, make the front pockets deeper, and add ankle zippers, and offer them in black. Fit, finish, and design are spectacular and the quality is unmatched.

Overall these are a good pants. But for the price you pay there should be some vents to dump heat, also a designated knives pocket like some of the other pants, but put it on the left side most people are right handed and I would assume are like me and carry their gun and bow with the right hand and with the knife on that side it bangs against it making noise. I’ve only had these for one season so time will tell if they hold up but maybe thicker material on high wear areas. Overall I like the pants just hope sitka’s design team will make some changes.

Reviewed On 10/26/2022

I want to like these pants more, as I am a huge fan of sitka products, I just can not. To start, the pants are long, so the "knee pads" are more like shin and ankle pads. While hiking, there is no way to dump heat. While doing the same hiking in these pants, my legs were ovens, and made for cold conditions while sitting. In rain, my legs got absolutely soaked, which I was not expecting- so you could only imagine what hiking through the snow was like (even with liners). The pant legs collected on top of my boots which created a spot for the water and snow to collect, and drip directly into my boots to not allow a pleasant experience.

On a positive note, the pants are extremely quiet. the snap buttons on the pockets are a great idea to allow you to gain access to your pockets with no noise. The zipper pull from either the top or bottom also worked fantastic while taking a leak in cold conditions.

Overall I am very disappointed. Like I said earlier, I am a huge fan of sitka products, and will continue to purchase waterfowl gear, but for big game hunting, the gear falls short of the mark, unfortunately.

2 year review. Perfect for everything. I use these for early season with no layers underneath and they are very comfortable on the skin. I also use these with various layers and stay warm later in the season. They fit me perfectly.
The durability of these is incredible! I hunt a range of habitats and most notably are the green briars. I have practically plowed through briars before and thought, “there’s gotta be rips or pulls on these after this.” When I get home and examine them I find them completely unharmed!
Comfortable, durable, and fast drying.

I’ve owned these around 7-8 years now. I want to like them more than I do. The positive is the fabric works for a wide range of temperatures and on the inside is comfortable against bare skin. It is quieter than other brands but I wouldn’t call it quiet if you are hunting whitetails in brushy areas. The features are well thought out… pocket placement, size and location. Negatives are that the knee pads are too low and they pull at the top of my knee caps when walking. I’m a solid 32” inseam. And 32” waist. The waist stretches out and the built in belt is inadequate to keeping the pants up. Also the cut of the rise is way too tall. As the fabric stretches I end up with a really saggy butt area and crotch area which hinders leg lift while climbing steeper slopes. What first looks like a great snap design on the side pockets turns out to come unsnapped constantly and the side pockets are low enough that if you have much in them they bang against the side of my knees, which is fatiguing. The fabric is adequately wind proof and breathable but wets out easily. Refine these details and/or offer more sizing options and you will really have something. Final Comment… not everyone is thick. These don’t fit thinner body types very well.

They’re comfy and kept me warm when it was cold in the morning, and they never got too hot after walking miles in the warm sun either. I’m really happy I got these. I’m 6’2 so the tall fit was perfect for me and knee pads were not a problem for me like I’ve seen some reviews say, but I’d like them more if the pads were a little less wide. Awesome pants, I recommend them!

These pants are unbelievably tough for how comfortable they are. Climbed through deadfall while hunting for 8 straight days and they look brand new. I snagged them on the sharp broken limb bases countless times (to the point of stopping my entire bodies forward momentum) and looked down expecting a ripped pair of pants…there is not even a single snag or pull to be found on these pants. The knee pads are very functional and the pant material doesn't get destroyed when crawling around on rocky terrain. Temps ranged from 30-70 and I was never too hot or too cold. They dry fast too. Cant ask for much more in a pair of pants.

Do not purchase these pants unless you have extremely long legs. Sitka offers Regular and Tall inseams but it appears that they just hem the bottoms to a shorter length rather than manufacturing the pant legs in proportion to the length. As such, the top of knee pads will hang halfway down your knees, while you’re standing straight up. It’s very frustrating and uncomfortable while walking. I took all three of my pants to a local tailor to see if he could bring the knee portion up a couple of inches but because of the complex stitching around friont pockets and knees he was unable to repair.

The feel/material of these pants is great. However they're very long and there aren't options for length outside of choosing regular or tall. I'm 5'11" with an athletic physique and my pant size is typically 33x30 so I chose the 33R size. They're so long that when fully stretched out the pant leg covers about half of my foot. When wearing boots, this may not be a problem, however it creates a different problem that can't be corrected and that is the knee pad height. When standing straight the top edge of the pad begins at about the lower 1/3 of my kneecap (almost completely below my kneecap). The bottom of the knee pad (which is insanely long) hangs down to my lower shin, essentially right about where the top of my boots start. Not only does this look and feel very sloppy but it's also not effective given that it doesn't cover my kneecaps at all. These are basically shin guards. Essentially I can't wear the knee pads because it's like walking around with a sack of groceries bouncing off my shins. If you're looking for a pant with knee pads being a top focus I would skip these and look at a more expensive pant like the Beyond Clothing A9 Mission pant. Those pants have a drawstring on the upper thigh which allows you to pull and set the height of the knee pad so it fits your body's needs. This is insanely practical as these pants clearly demonstrate, not all body types are the same so you're product is going to miss with a lot of people. Luckily the pads are removable so I'm just going to count it as a loss and keep them but I'm disappointed that the kneepads are basically useless. One other thing worth mentioning is that the crotch zipper has a paracord loop attached to it and by holding this, you cannot operate the zipper. The angle that it pulls at makes the zipper just lock in place and it doesn't slide an inch, therefore this is also a useless feature and just kind of feels and looks tacky so I'll probably cut them off. If you grab the metal zipper itself, the zipper will operate smoothly.

I absolutely love these pants. They dry out so quickly after a rain or snow. Plenty of secure pockets. Breathable. Pretty versatile temperature-wise. I'll wear a base layer with them in the 20's. They start getting warm in the 70s-80s especially if being very mobile vs sitting, but tolerable, and can remove the knee pads. Knee pads come in handy when you least expect it. Just completed my second turkey season with them and have completed a deer season with them, and they are holding up just fine.

I've owned these for just over a year and they have been on every hunt. These pants are awesome, so much so that I've got camo and solids. The thickness is just about perfect for late September all the way through December, just add base layers if it's under 30°F. The fit is very relaxed; almost too baggy but you can buy these true to your pant size while still having room for long johns under. The only things I would change are the knife sleeve and crotch area. The knife sleeve is only big enough for a small thin knife, not a larger flip knife and if you carry one the snap won't close on the cargo pocket. The crotch is too saggy and baggy. These are pretty much the Timberline pants without waterproof panels.

First, these pants feel quality AND comfortable as is to be expected with Sitka. The ONLY reason for 4 stars is the sizing. I wear a 34R in the Dakota pants and they fit PERFECT with thumbs gap to allow for a base layer but for whatever reason, the 34R in the Mountain Pant is VERY tight around the waste. I understand the Dakota pant is a Standard Fit item whereas the Mountain Pant is a Performance Fit, however, I'm very surprised the waist size changes. There is ZERO chance to layer underneath and I really have to stretch the waist to get it to fit. I will be returning for the 35R when it comes into stock. For frame, I'm 6'1" 180lbs.

The Mountain Pants were the first pair of Sitka Pants I ever ordered, and I can certainly say that I’ve been impressed. From 45 degrees in the morning to 70 degrees around noon (Montana September archery), the pants have been able to deal with a wide range of temps and I haven’t felt uncomfortable at either end of the spectrum. I did snag the lower right leg on a perfectly placed thorn which poked a small hole and pulled some of the liner out, but when I got home I sealed it with glue and I’m not worried about it anymore, and in that terrain I’ll be wearing gaiters from now on anyway. Past that, they’ve been busting through brush, shedding burrs and spiky grass and kneeling on rocks and sticks and look none the worse for wear. I find them to be more comfortable than the Crye Precision pants I’ve deployed with in the past. I would honestly choose a lighter set of pants for next year’s archery season (just took delivery of some ascent pants), but I look forward to seeing how they do once rifle season starts.

I also have a pair in "everyday" colors I use for hiking and other outdoor activities. After a year of regular use, both pair are in great shape. Comfort is great for both active pursuits and sitting. They even work well in light rain for active pursuits.

If I was to change one thing about them, I would add a knife pocket like I have on the Hanger Pant. It's nice to have a knife pocket for folding knives to keep them folded and make them easy to access.

So it's not blue jeans and shorts weather anymore and my Equinox pants are amazing, but the Optifade isn't really every day wear. After doing a little comparison, I felt like the "Swiss army knife" of pants was going to be best suited for my everyday work and wear needs. I WAS NOT DISAPPOINTED! After a few snowball fights and a trip to the 12,000 Sandia peak in some wind and cold, I knew that I was going to be pressed not to sleep in them every day. Blind hunting or dropping to a knee on the move will be a breeze! I'm not ashamed to say I just bought my second pair.

Mind blown...

Got these pants in early-August for a September elk hunt in Colorado. First impression was promising, a good "mid weight" pant for a wide range of temps. Super comfortable, durable feel, warm but not hot. Then they got the field Wore them for 10 days straight, from 80's to 20's, from dry heat to pelting snow. These were all that and some! When the mercury dropped, I added a merino base and was totally comfortable. Threw on some gaiters for a trek in 15" of snow, busting through brush and taking a knee periodically, and never once got wet. And did I mention they didn't stink after a 10 day grind? Nope...I could've kept going for 10 more days.

These are definitely worth the purchase, and a prized addition to my clothing line up. Fit is true-to-size, extremely comfortable and a wide range of motion with no binding. I'm 5' 6", 155 lbs, and the 30R fit great.

Sitka Is my go-to brand and every year I find myself picking up a couple more pieces. My advice is get the mountain pants and wear them for one hunting season, because you will be hooked.

Comfortable and functional cut, great pocket layout. The quiet pock snaps are brilliant. The material is relatively quiet, though may become even more so after further washings. The only possible negative I could say is that the hip and rear pocket material is a bit thick. However I wore these pants dry after 3 waist deep water crossings and the pcokets dried as fast as the rest of the pants. Also they are super snuggly for keeping the dick beaters warm.

These are my go to pants for everything ! I’m a East coast guy I wear these for early deer season in the tree stand, scouting, still hunting in the gun season and turkey hunting. These pants are probably the best turkey hunting pants ever made with the knee pads. I run and gun and am a very aggressive turkey hunter. These knee pads make crawling so much easier no more rocks stabbing you in the knees.
They also dry very quick if you get them wet and are durable and hold up to briars which is huge. Those two qualities are not something I’ve been able to find before.

I'm hunting elk in early October and needed an early-mid season pant. The Mountain Pant should fit the bill. Got mine on sale and wore them for the first time today (Christmas Day) on a 3 mile hike to check them out. I'm 6'2", 240 pounds and I ordered them in the same size I wear blue jeans. They fit perfect and if I need to wear a base layer underneath for colder weather there should not be a problem. All of the pockets have zippers to keep car keys, bill fold, etc. from falling out. Cargo pocket on both thighs have flaps with two buttons to keep larger item secure like gloves, GPS, cell phone, etc. The belt loops are wide and my wide Jean leather belt fits perfectly. The front zipper has two tabs which I don't understand. One at the top and the other at the bottom of the zipper. You can use either one to zip up or down but why two ? I like to wear suspenders with my hunting pants along with a belt to keep my pants in place. Wish these came with buttons sewn on the inside waist band to accommodate suspenders. I will have my local cleaners make that modification. Looking forward to next year's Colorado elk hunt as these pants will see their first action. Will give another report in 10 months.

One of the most comfortable pant I've ever had the privilege of hunting in. Used these for a November rifle hunt with lows in the mid twenties, highs in the sixties, and wind gusts into the 40-50 mph range; overall they were the perfect balance of breathability, warmth, and wind stopping power. I did run into some issues with cacti getting through these pants (wasn't paying attention and sat and knelt on small cacti under light grass), but that is not what they're made for and this is more a job for the Timberline pants. All in all a great mid to late season hunting pant and will be buying more in the future.

Hey Clint -

We appreciate the feedback. We strongly recommend wearing them around in the field a bit. The foam knee pads will form and loosen up a little with use. They do ride low but the reason we designed them that way is because your pant leg will rise when you take a knee. This positions the pads exactly where they need to be. If the knee pads were higher you would loose that protection. We could shorten them up but we appreciate the additional protection that length and position provides your lower knee and upper shin in uneven terrain. Designed with intent.

Try them in the field and if your not happy with or without the knee pads give us a call to discuss a different option for you.

My one complaint thus far is that the knee pads hang too low with the top of the pad hitting the top of my knee cap when I walk. This is annoying and distracting. I looked to see if there was a size 36" waist with a shorter length available so that the pads would ride in the right place. I was disappointed to find that a shorter length is not available.

I used these pants exclusively on our hunt in the mountains of Colorado for Elk and Muleys. They are by far the best hunting pants I have ever purchased.

It snowed the first night we were there, so the next day we were in anywhere from 3" to 18" of snow, depending on how high up we went. The bottoms of the pants stayed tight to my boots, not letting in snow, and when the pants got wet, it didn't take very long for them to dry. That was the biggest thing, because I was in the snow a lot.

I also really liked the knee pads. They weren't as cumbersome as I had thought they were going to be. I as on a lot of steep, slippery terrain and they paid for themselves in those conditions. It is also nice when you can drop down to your knees with a heavy load on your back without tearing them up.

The one improvement I can think of is thin padding on the butt to protect from elements. That part dried the slowest, and was the only time I remember thinking my pants were wet.

There are absolutely no movement hindering seams in them, they are form fitted to shape. I wear them from early to late season, whether it is mid summer or winter in the nw where I live they are perfect. I've always had hard time finding hunting pants that fit right ,but no more the talks fit my 36 inseam perfectly. I will never wear anything else while hunting again. Thanks Sitka gear!
