When it is too mild to wear bibs and too chilly to don our Early Season Pant, you’ll thrive in the Stratus Pants. The micro check backer and WINDSTOPPER® combination offers just enough protection for frosty mornings and breezy evenings. The brushed face ensures silent movement when the moment of truth comes. Pull the knee gasket over the top of your boots to keep out the sticks and leaves, and easily store your range finder and other essentials in the side cargo pockets.
When it’s too mild for bibs, the Stratus Pant is constructed to keep you comfortable and focused in the high winds and intermittent precip of the mid season. The extremely quiet GORE® WINDSTOPPER® Softshell is 100% windproof, forming a protective microclimate around your lower half that still breathes, keeping you comfortable when hiking in a stand or dragging out a deer. A lofted micro check fleece lining offers moderate insulation without bulk, making this the ideal jacket for all-day stand sessions as temperatures fall and autumn gusts intensify.
The lightly brushed face fabric reduces friction noise, helping keep you undetected. Articulated knees and a gusseted crotch reduce bunching, freeing you up for a full range of motion as you walk in, climb up and hold your position. Draw-string gaskets fasten over the tops of your boots, keeping out all matter of debris, insects and snow. Accessible hip pockets – reinforced for clipping in knives and multitools – and quiet-snap cargo pockets cache necessities like rangefinder and grunt tube so they don’t tumble to the forest floor.
"To me, the Stratus Pant is the best pant for hunting whitetails during the rut in the Mid-West. The WINDSTOPPER® laminate helps me stay warm with less bulk, and the brushed outer surface is very quiet. The limb tip pocket on the inside leg, at or just below my knee, is an essential feature I use to help support my traditional bows while remaining motionless with an arrow knocked."

Hey Carl - Thank you for sharing your experience with the Stratus Pant. You mention several great points that raise a few questions. If your spot and stalk hunting please understand that our entire Whitetail line is designed for a static hunter. Primarily hunting from a stand or blind. They work but are not as advantageous to a spot and stalk hunter as our Big Game line. Within our Whitetail line we have several different Systems to accommodate different temperatures ranges. We have the ESW System for early season, the Stratus for mid and our Fanatic and Incinerator for Late season/cold conditions. Our Stratus System is designed with a Standard Fit to accommodate layering for more versatility from cool to colder conditions. We have found that if you on the far end of a size and you intend to layer heavy you will need to go up a size. Our Big Game line will be lighter weight and more durable, breathable, and packable. They are designed with weight, activity level and quickly changing weather conditions in mind. It will allow for a wider range of layering to accommodate forecasted conditions in addition to the unknown. Please reach out to use to discuss the best system for your application - 877-748-5247. We would be happy to take a look at your Stratus Pants to see if there is a defect associated with the Windstopper Laminate. I must warn you however that if you are busting through rose brier, thorns, and thistle you could be puncturing the Windstopper laminate. It's durable but not impenetrable and can be damaged. If this is the case it could be the culprit behind why you are feeling some convective cooling.
The pants work excellent for nice quiet stalking, but like the jacket, they have a very short window of usage. If its 70degF (20degC) be prepared to pull them off! You will be sweating, big time, if you are walking. If its colder out -5degC, you better make a fire. I don't understand how people layer up much with sitka gear? They are designed to be very fitting, which is awesome, and what I need as a bow hunter, but difficult to put any sort of jacket over it, or a bulky layer under it and still have mobility. Two major drawbacks are that the pants get wet very fast and easy, and they snag everything in the bush! Every rose brier, thorn, and thistle will be stuck to you. Oh yea, and the wind stopper feature is more like wind resistant, i have felt plenty of wind get thru, even with a few base layer on underneath. I am just a regular hunter, not sponsored or affiliated with anything. (real review)
This is a great addition to the Whitetail Line of Sitka Gear. For those hunters that wanted a warm and very quite pair of pants without wearing bibs, this is a great option. The Windstopper lining helps to protect you from the bonechilling cold of late season hunting. I wore these while glassing on a mountain top in Wyoming and was plenty warm. the fact that they are quite means you can move around without worrying about your clothing alerting your prey. The addition of the gaskets helps keep anything from going into your boots. As a GORE gear tester, I put my Sitka clothing through the worst environments. These pants are a great addition to my Sitka system and have already proven to be well worth it.
