Recap: The SITKA Depot will be hosting Sierra Jepsen, the owner of a traveling butcher school, Butcher Solutions LLC. Sierra is enthusiastic about pushing the boundaries beyond familiar meat cuts, and is excited to share techniques for carving wild game in your own home. She will also be covering the ins and outs of knife sharpening, meat care, aging, and more! If you are tired of staring into the freezer abyss and seeing meat simply labeled “hindquarter steak” and “forequarter roast,” join us for an evening of cutting demonstrations!

Recap: SITKA Ambassador, Corey Jacobsen, an 11-time World Champion elk caller and professional hunter, provided a comprehensive breakdown of elk calling. He covered the timing and appropriate use of different calls in various scenarios, as well as how to assess a bull's response to the calls based on its attitude. Additionally, he shared his most valuable tips for calling elk during pre-rut and peak-rut periods. Following the presentation, attendees enjoyed the premier of the new SITKA film 18 Points followed by a Q&A as well as some awesome raffle prizes. The evening was wrapped up with drinks and appetizers that were prepared by the Wild Sheep Foundation.

Recap: For the first time ever Montana hosted it's first ever World Duck qualifier. The SITKA Depot and Ducks Unlimited partnered together to bring this event to life. On July 15th, callers and waterfowl enthusiasts gathered at the SITKA Depot to watch a day filled with 7 different calling competitions and callers had the opportunity to secure two coveted tickets, granting them a chance to compete at the esteemed World Duck event in Stuttgart, Arkansas.. Attendees also were able to enjoy a variety of vendors as well as food and drinks throughout the day. The calling competition was wrapped up by a live music performance the Bridger Creek Boys.

Recap: Brady Miller of GoHunt discussed his tactics for hunting public land mule deer. He detailed his preparation process for a hunt once he had a tag in hand, e-scouting, and locating quality deer in different terrain and seasons. Plus, he shared his most coveted tips for dealing with changing weather and locations, and finding success on limited time. Afterwards, we enjoyed some drinks and delicious mule deer appetizers prepared by Chef Jaime Teigen, plus raffle prizes from GOHUNT, SITKA Gear, Outdoor Class, and more.

Recap: David Martinez, a renowned photographer specializing in capturing the magnificent Big Horn Sheep, delivered an inspiring talk at the SITKA Depot in Bozeman. With his compelling story of resilience, he recounted how photography became his newfound passion following a combat injury during his service in the Marine Corps. David shared his remarkable journey of rediscovering the world of hunting after his military experience and how it ultimately propelled him into the realm of photography. As the evening drew to a close, David graciously fielded questions from the audience and generously distributed an array of exciting raffle prizes.

Recap: John Barklow, SITKA's Senior Hunt Product Manager, discussed clothing systems as a survival tool, and your first line of defense against the elements. He also talked about the mechanisms of human heat loss, as well as how your clothing system can accelerate or prevent this heat loss. John walked through the 8 piece clothing system that can make or break a hunt, and potentially save your life in the backcountry if the weather takes a turn. The evening was wrapped up with a Q&A and the raffling off of several SITKA pieces.

Recap: Beau Brooks shared his tips, tactics and calling for Western Turkey Hunting. He covered hunting turkeys in multiple different environments and gave tips on how to be successful in each. Beau also game some incredible calling examples as well as the best scenarios to use each type of call. Attendees supported the National Wild Turkey Federation through membership purchases and donations for a chance at raffle prizes from SITKA Gear, Power Calls, ON X, Higdon Outdoors, and David Halloran Calls.

Recap: Randy Newberg shared his process for planning big game hunts in the western United States. He covered how to maximize your in-state opportunities, defining short, mid, and longterm hunting goals, and selecting states that provide the best hunting value. Attendees enjoyed wild game appetizers prepared by Larry Hassell with Wild Sheep Foundation, and raffle prizes from SITKA Gear, Mystery Ranch, Leupold, GOHUNT, and Outdoor Class.

Recap: We showed our most recent film, “River,” with professional snowboarder, Eric Jackson. After the showing, Eric spoke about the film, his life as a professional snowboarder, and his journey into elk hunting. Raffles included gear from SITKA, Black Diamond, and the Black Diamond X SITKA Gear Mission Jacket and Pant.

Recap: SITKA Gear Technical Repair Seamstress, Colleen Tretter offered repairs on small rips, tears, burn holes, and zipper slider replacements free of charge*. Repairs were completed on the spot, allowing gear to be back in the field immediately. Colleen offered gear care tips and advice that she has gained from over twenty years of experience repairing outdoor equipment.

Recap: Randy discussed the five periods of elk hunting from early season in August, to late season in November and the needs of the elk during each of the five periods. Randy also covered how to make a plan for your hunt depending on the timing and location of the tag. In the planning portion, he discussed e-scouting, migratory versus non-migratory elk, hunting pressure, and he shared some tips for sticking to your plan when you may be tempted to ditch the plan.
