    Why We Made This

We wanted to redefine how a softshell jacket performs on active mountain hunts. Our solution was to create a jacket that breathes well, blocks wind, repels rain and snow, and did not inhibit movement. We achieved this with GORE-TEX INFINIUM™ with WINDSTOPPER™Technology for unbeatable weather protection, a DWR finish to prevent the face fabric from wetting out, and an articulated patterning for complete range of motion.

I cannot say enough good things about this jacket. Now, I had intended on this being for my scouting/early season hunting trips, but had the opportunity to use it last night. I had just received the Jetstream jacket in large earlier that morning and was itching to get to the field for some break-in and to get to know it more before any big hunts this year. All of a sudden there are helicopters in the sky and the city is lit up with red, blue, and fire. Normally I stay far away from commotion and avoid angry mobs whenever possible; however, we have a business downtown that has been in the family since 1928 and I was not prepared to let some misguided souls take that from us. Luckily, my new jacket had my back--literally. With the Goretex Infinium Windstopper I was not phased by the strong winds coming out of the river basin. The light mesh design paired with fleece interior was the perfect amount of insulation well into dawn the next day. At 40°F with a cotton T-shirt and steel plate I was cozy warm. Thank you, Sitka! This is now my go to jacket for teaching classes at the range as well as light fast hunting.

P.S. The amount of pockets on this piece is phenomenal. The left arm pocket for game calls is a huge win in my book.

The Jetstream is a pretty sweet Jacket and it's the perfect weight for both warm and early fall Hunts. I use it for September Archery all the way through Rifle in November. The 2 Zippers on the chest are perfect for a Rangefinder and a small camera or phone. I like the zippered pocket on the forearm of the left sleeve for holding my Elk Reeds. You can't go wrong with this Jacket.

This is my "go to" jacket for most conditions. I use it for bow hunting in late fall and used it in Alaska fishing. The zippers on the arms are great for airing out and having two pockets in the front on the chest outside is great. This way, I can access my phone or camera or other small items i don't want to put in my pockets where my hands go. Great design. Love the jacket! Thanks.

I have worn this jacket hunting, skiing, biking, camping in weather ranging from -10 to 70 degrees. Layered with a light weight puff jacket, it is perfect for any active winter activity. It’s pit zips and breathability still makes it perfect for spring and fall activities and it is durable enough to not need to worry about ripping it on any thorns. The only problem is that I let my girlfriend wear it and I haven’t worn it since. Guess it’s time to buy a second.

This is the most disappointing piece of sitka gear of the more than 20 that I own. I have run this jacket for 4 years now and every time I put it on I ask myself, "Isn't this supposed to have Windblocker technology?" I don't find it to be any more windproof than a cotton hoodie. Maybe mine is defective or maybe I'm very sensitive to wind, but I really wish this jacket performed like my other sitka items.

Genuinely windproof, unlike many jackets that say so, and fine in a light rain or mist. Comfortable and versatile, high quality construction and zippers. I use mine (solid moss) a lot in Spring and while traveling. However, as someone else mentioned, I wish you would offer tall mens' versions in the solid colors. I'd buy a second one in XL Tall, solid black, if it were available.

Nice Jacket. Not as trim fitting as I would have thought so awkward alone with no layers under. Perfect with mid weight layers or even trim fitting heavy layers (Traverse Cold Weather Hoody). I'm 6' 150-155 and small is too small, medium is nice but little short arms and hem (midlayers stick out). Medium tall is where 's at. plenty of arm length and hem covers you under layers completely from getting wet. Nice quality. Softshell face not at tough as I'd like but decent.

The versatility of this jacket sets it apart from all other soft shells, because you basically get a soft shell and hard shell in one package, that's still comfortable. I wear it over base layers down to 40 degrees and over a down jacket down in to the teens. It keeps heat in, but keeps wind out. The pit zips also make it easy to hike in. Very pleased so far.

I'm 6'0, 185lb. I chose an XL because I paired it with the Traverse Cold Weather Hoody Optifade Subalpine (Large), which went underneath. I also purchased an insulator top that fits underneath quite well too if I plan to sit for hours in cold weather. I took this jacket on a 6 day hunting trip in Montana this past week, where I did a lot of hiking in the snow and wind. In particular, one mountain top had so much wind that it would almost blow me over at times, but with this jacket on my core didn't feel any wind. It's amazing, I highly recommend it! Next year I'll buy my rain gear - but this late in the season (Nov/Dec) all you need is a Jetstream jacket and some insulation.

I've worn this on early morning archery hunts in Idaho and also just completed a 4 day back country deer hunt where we dealt with 40-50 mph winds and constant snow storms. This jacket broke the wind like nothing I have ever worn before. It kept me warm and dry but is light and still allows for comfortable movement. I am 5'9 165 lbs and am wearing a medium. Very nice jacket, well made and comfortable. I am 5'8" and 165 pounds so the large fits perfect. It is thin, however (being outside in 44 degrees with high winds I got chilly wearing a long sleeve tee underneath). You will need to layer under it to stay warm IMO. It keeps the wind out, but the material will still obviously get cold so that cold will transfer to your skin if you do not layer. I pair it with the Sitka Grange vest which is actually insulated (both in black) and it looks great. Would be great if Sitka made a jacket that was like the Grange outer material with both Primaloft and Windstopper like the Grange. Overall, nice jacket.

I was skeptical at first that the size would be a little short on the arms since I am 6'3 but the XL Tall fit perfect! It still has enough room to layer a light hoody or heavy weight zip tee. The gore windstopper technology is awesome, the wind down in South Texas is relentless at times and this jacket makes little work of keeping the wind from going through. It has all the features I want, I can wear over top a good merino shirt or layer a puffy under it. however, the XL was slightly too short in arms and waist. I am 6'3" tall and weigh 190 lbs. Many of the upper level back country clothing companies do not carry tall sizes. My perfect normal clothing size is Large Tall. I wanted a hood, so I got the men's version of this jacket. As a small female, the men's small is not a super trim fit, but works quite well, and can fully zip over my Bino pouch. I am 5'4 115lb, but with long arms and torso the fit is surprisingly good. Due to this being an outer layer I am happy to have a slightly less trim fit for this piece. For a male the small would be pretty trim, and seemingly on the shorter side, as the length is perfect for me. I appreciate the simple design on the wrist (no Velcro, no gasket) but this barely has enough give for me to take off easily, and I have thin wrists. A minor nit, though, as, all in all, this jacket is perfect for cold, windy, snowy, or rainy days. I wear this as my go to rain shell here in Colorado which is way nicer with the micro fleece lining than inevitably louder goretex. The fabric is super quiet and durable. Considering it is windstopper, not goretex with fully taped seams, it does great in rain. There is only the place where the hang tag is down on the neck that leaks at all during a deluge. Otherwise, I have worn it in prolonged deluges, and it stayed remarkably dry, making it a solid choice for me over goretex considering how it wears is more comfortable and breathable. The design details like pockets (many!) and pit zips are what really make this an outstanding jacket. The articulated seams on the arm are well done, and seem very resistant to abuse. All in all, super jacket. Please make a hooded version for the ladies!

Im 5'9" and 160 with athletic build, Medium is too small and Im a medium dude. Short and tight arms, not good for mountain weather. Need to be able to layer. Its the perfect jacket to wear around town with shorts and over a t-shirt. I only dare mention the cost briefly; in short: unrealistic. Its a 200$ jacket hyped up to 329$. It is a awesome jacket to hike in when the temps are cold because you only need one good baselayer on, and with the pit zips you do not over heat. I've sat in temps down to 10 degrees for 4+ hours and I was wearing the merino top, the midweight zip, traverse zip, kelvin lite vest and my Jetstream, and I was very comfortable. the only bad thing I can point out about this jacket is that it seems to be cut a little short, if it was 2-3 inches longer then I couldn't find anything wrong with it. Took the ATV up to the mountain today (40 miles up and back) and thought it was a good opportunity to see what the jacket was made of. IT DID NOT DISAPPOINT! Weather was warm on the bottom, not a problem, just undid the arm pit zippers. Half way up it started to get a little cooler, zipped the pit zippers. There was still snow at the top of the mountain, mix that in with some overcast skies and it got to be noticeably chilly. When fully zipped the collar covers your mouth which was nice when riding at 30 mph in the high country at these conditions. All in all this jacket IS VERY HARD TO BEAT. The elements weren't a problem thanks to the design and materials this jacket has and is made of. With a thin tee shirt I actually started sweating on the decent because the jacket held up so good. Busting through snow drifts and deep long water puddles staying dry wasn't a problem either, though not technically water proof. Going home I hit speeds between 40 and 60 mph and almost flew off the seat because the air couldn't and wouldn't penetrate the jacket (parachute type of effect). I have the "Moss Color" and will definitely get one in Optifade this fall for hunting purposes. With the conditions I've experienced today, there is no doubt it will perform during hunting season, it is a necessity to ones outdoor gear. I'm 6' at 250 lbs (size XXL), the only "complaint" is the length otherwise the arms and width of the product is perfect. If you live for the outdoors, get one!

Their XL fits snug in the chest (I'm a 42"-44") and short in the torso and sleeves (you can really see/feel it in the sleeves when you draw or reach forward.) not just on their Jetstream Jacket, but on all their jackets I've ever tried on. The XXL does the trick as far as the sleeve length goes but then I'm swimming in the rest of it and lose that athletic/slimmer cut that is the point of having hunting gear designed like mountain climbing gear. Would also like to see a drop tail on more of these outer shell jackets; as hunters and outdoorsmen, how many times are we crouching down, squatting, sitting up against a tree or rock, and wish we had more material back there for cover? The windstopper fabric works very good without missing flexibility. It breath and strech well. And while chasing elk in archery season I had no time to take it off in order try and close the distance before dark so I just unzipped the pit zips and cooled right off just enough during the fast grind towards the bugling elk. Solid piece of gear. I understand fully why many people consider it one of the best jackets Sitka has produced. Bought the Jetstream as my outer layer for my first backcountry blacktail hunt. I heat up really fast on the move, so having a windproof softshell with pit zips was a great find. Being that it was opening weekend, I figured all I'd have to deal with was wind. I couldn't have been more wrong. It rained much of the morning on the first day, and turned into sleet as the day wore on. For a non-waterproof jacket, the Jetstream delivered. Visored hood kept my glasses water-free, and the fabric, though sodden after a few hours, delivered the needed wind protection and warmth to keep my temperature up. The Optifade was put to the test on the second day. On the fire road out of camp, three does and a spike crossed in front of me. Silhouetted on the road twenty-five yards away, I held stock still. The blacktails knew I wasn't quite right, but couldn't figure out what I was. They resumed their grazing for a few minutes before moving on. Major confidence boost there. Rarely took it off the rest of the trip because it was so versatile, top marks on design details and fabric choice.

My only concern is the chest sizing due to the raglan sleeve design. Going off the sizing chart, I was definitely an XL thanks to my 45" chest. However, the more I wear the jacket, it feels constricting across the shoulders when I reach forward. This is most apparent when I'm setting up a braced shooting position, where my sleeves also ride up past my wrists. It's given me pause about getting the Cloudburst due to the similar design.

That being said, I appreciate the fact that Sitka has taken the time to meld the outdoor fabrics I'm familiar with and a first-class disruptive pattern. I heartily recommend the gear to my friends.

    Reviewed On 12/06/2013

    Dear Zach,
We love customers who have been SITKA fans from the beginning. The Celsius was an early flagship piece for SITKA and still remains a fond memory. The Celsius and all of the the products we started with were platforms for improvements and evolution. Some you can physically see and feel. But the best changes are the ones that you experience. How the jacket, vest, pant, etc perform in the field. These are the wins that we celebrate. How were we able to simplify something that was overkill or add a feature with a very specific end use or a finishing detail that is cleaner, lighter, and performs better. Some changes also represent sacrifices too. As our lead designer always says "As soon as you begin designing, you start sacrificing". It's just a reality.
Full concealment zippers...We HATE the white backside. We've tried for the last two years to come up with a good work around. The priority was to eliminate the bisecting aspect a center front zipper causes, disrupting the symmetry of the human form. This is part of the science of nothing. We have worked with YKK (one of the best zipper suppliers in the world) on this project from inception. We can get the front of the zippers printed, but we have to start with a white base. We've tried and continue to pursue alternatives to the white base. But when balancing the priorities between eliminating symmetry and a white backer, we chose the science of concealment. I too have used a sharpie on my personal garment for the back of the zipper.
If you ever have a problem with our manufacturing, we will warranty the garment. The installation of the zipper is solid.
In regards to the fabric, we're glad you like the soft hand. That was a goal. It also performs. The Jetstream Jacket has spent more days in the Alaskan bush than most and continues to receive rave reviews. We hope you have the same experience in the field too. The face fabric is a tightly woven 75 denier face that is inherently water resistant for inclemental weather conditions. This tightly woven face also delivers great abrasion, tear, and puncture resistance. Coupled with the weight saving heat-to-weight ratio benefits of the micro-grid backer and WINDSTOPPER laminate's really a tough solution to beat. Our top mountain hunting athletes default to the Jetstream time and time again. Please let us know how it performs for you as well.

    Reviewed On 12/05/2013

I just received my Jetstream and I'm extremely pleased with it generally. Lightweight, stretchy--it promises to be a great general purpose jacket.

But, I have one specific criticism that I think the guys at Sitka probably would like to hear. I also have an older (discontinued) Celsius vest (which I love). The Celsius *jacket* had some awkward spots: weird straps at the wrist and mouth area, which the Jetstream jacket avoids. (This was why I chose the Celsius vest versus jacket in the first place).

And yet the Celsius also had more attention to other details: the zipper backer, for example, on the Celsius is a blended shade of gray/brown. I cannot for the life of me understand why Sitka used a bright white zipper backer on the Jetstream; if you have the coat partway unzipped, it shows (as seen in Mr. Putin's picture above), and frankly it looks cheap. I plan to color mine with permanent gray marker so it doesn't stand out as much.

Moreover, on the Celsius the zipper backer was actually edged over with a nice ribbon, folded over and stitched down, to prevent the outer edge from fraying; this not only looked nice but also increased the durability of the fabric. Finally at the base of the Jetstream zipper the stitching is just kind of wonky, like it barely passed QC. I only say this stuff because in my experience these are things fabric designers notice and hope their customers don't; this time we did, and it may be time for a word with the factory.

Finally, while the Celsius wasn't Gore-tex Windstopper, it was made of some kind of matrix-glued or laminated face fabric which has proven impressively durable. I liken the Celsius material to rhino hide. With the Jetstream the fabric is softer to the touch and--I believe--will be easier to pull loops in if you come up against something sharp, like a briar patch.

So in short I love the advanced design of the Jetstream and I think it is a clear improvement on the Celsius Jacket, especially at the cuffs and around the mouth flap, but in terms of build quality and attention to detail, I fear Sitka may have taken a minor step back.

You put this jacket on and it's clear that the boys in Bozeman see the details and did their homework. Since I archery hunt and shoot, the flexibility of the hood is also a huge plus. I absolutely fell in love with this jacket last year; while on a Caribou hunt in Alaska. I had previously owned the original version and had really liked it, except that I wished that it had pit zips and a hood. So when I got the updated version; low and behold: pit zips and hood!
Like I had mentioned before; I had used this jacket extensively while on a Caribou hunt, along the North Slope of the Brooks Mountain Range. We encountered weather that seemed to change about every twenty minutes; so it was a game of constant rearranging of your layers. This is one piece that I always put back on. Having a DWR treatment meant that I didn't have to bust out the raingear every time it started to drizzle.
The GORE Windstopper blocks the wind like an NFL linebacker, which is essential during high output activities, where you are prone to be sweating = retain body heat. It's not quite as breathable as the 90% jacket; so it is definitely the warmer of the two pieces (the pit zips come in handy). The jacket has more of an athletic fit; which makes it more friendly for layering underneath rain gear or other pieces. This jacket fits like a glove and is designed to move; I never feel "restrained" while wearing my Jetstream jacket. It's so comfortable that I've found myself wearing this jacket "around" and to work. For this very reason I am very stoked that it now is available in a solid color version. Hands down my favorite jacket; regardless of the activity.

I wear this on campus, while biking, out with the lady, in the mountians, on a multipitch route, anywhere. Tons of pockets will hold whatever you need. Functional hood can fit over a helmet. One of the features I really like are the cuffs, these are tapered to fit snug without using a velcro tab. Pit zips help to cool you down if necessary.
