Behind the Design
Mountain hunting is a pursuit that requires ruthless scrutiny at every turn. If ounces mean pounds, warmth means life and the terrain demands high aerobic output, what insulation layer can rise to that very specific challenge? We set out to build a jacket that is exceptionally warm, highly compressible in a pack and as light as possible. This led us to partner with Primaloft to create an entirely new hybrid down and synthetic insulation package not available anywhere else on the market. The Kelvin Lite Down is the answer to the mountain’s questions.

"The deal is, if you spend enough time out there, you’re going to get wet on a brutally cold day. And how are you going to keep warm? How are you going to get everything dry and keep going?” - Big Game Product Manager John Barklow

I'm 5'10 and 175 lbs. I have a bunch of Sitka gear. In pants, I have the Mountain, old style 90%, Ascent , Territory and even an old style Kelvin lite. I was so impressed with the updated version of the Kelvin down lite hoody I went for a pair of the Kelvin 3/4 lite pants too. The quality is great and the design clearly sheds weight, it is definitely more compressible than the full length Kelvin lite. They also should be keep you warm. But the design features feel over done for me and I decided to return them. If you are looking for the absolute lightest warmth to weight ratio you can, this is a great piece. For me I would rather have the little bit of extra weight and slightly less compressible for a little more versatility. I really did not like the style and the zipper location might have its advantages for venting while sitting but then reaching into you inner pockets is difficult. I'd like to see a full length version of the Kelvin lite pant with the new down and mapping but the zipper straight down the side. I think for most hunters except those that care about shedding an ounce or two would feel similar.
Finally! I've been waiting for the new puffy pants to come out for sometime and these ones are very nice. The fit is really good and doesn't bunch up; XL for 6'/210lbs. Spent some time with this and the jacket in high mountain and desert of WY down to 30°. Sitting and glassing was great with them. I wouldnt hike in them, obviously, and I would be careful of snagging the outer layer. It's thin, but it did fine while I was out. My only complaint is I'd prefer the full length, but that's fairly minor compared to what you get out of these pants.
