This is a great gator neck. I wish I had this when I was in the military. There are many good things to say about this, and a few not so good.
Yes it is tapered on one end and has a rubber retainer at the top. That is great!!! It helps to keep it in place.
The material is breathable. I have used it working, hiking, climbing, and hunting. The only issue is moisture build up on the inside.
It did not cause laboured breathing or other issues from breathing.
Sadly the inside is white and is easy to be noticed. Two sided camo would have been better.
The material does tend to pile of you have stubble or semi long facial hair.
The material does block wind a bit and repells water for a short amount of time.
All in all I think it was a great buy. It is a great piece to add to your collection and keep in you jacket pocket. Work very well in a pinch.

I'm not sure about the other patterns, but I have the Open Country pattern, and it is NOT the same material being shown in the photos, at least with the other patterns. What I mean is, the material depends on the pattern you get. For mine, it is a rubber-like mesh that is very itchy and doesn't move well around the neck (there's friction, it doesn't collapse comfortably around the neck). This was my first Sitka product I bought, I was so unhappy I put it in back in the box it came in and never returned it. I went with another brand for a year, was disappointed, then came back to Sitka and have been happy with that decision. But this product is terrible.

I own over 100 Sitka items. I would rate most all of them 5 stars, and none of them less than 4 stars, but this item just doesn't cut it. It's tapered with the end going around your face being the smaller end. Way too tight and very little give. Save your money...

This thing is awful in every way. Where do I even begin? ok, here goes:
-Directional! This means you can only put it on in one direction, so if it's upside down it's way too tight and this rubbery material barely stretches. If it's right side up it falls off the face leading me to the fact that
    - Only camo on one side, the other is bright white! which is exposed as soon as it falls off.
    - This material might breathe in some other application but it certainly does not breathe in this one! YOU CANT EVEN BREATHE THROUGH THIS RUBBER LIKE MATERIAL!
    - Imagine the condensation if you had a sandwich bag for a neck gator and you have an accurate idea of what it's like to wear this.

This is a decent face mask.

Pros: very breathable, helps wick sweat when worn around the neck.

Cons: The elastic band that keeps it up can be a bit awkward and uncomfortable at times, especially when wearing up high on the face to conceal. The fact that it is bright shiny white on the under side is a bit frustrating.

Lightweight and pretty breathable. It doesn’t wet out nearly as fast as other neck gaiters, but not breathable enough for nonstop use. Insane camo surcharge for what is literally a cylinder of fabric. You pay to match the rest of your gear I suppose.

Excellent neck concealment with the Sitka Gear Subalpine gator wrap.

No camo on the back face of the fabric so it's exposed almost solid white when it's around your neck if you don't manage it constantly. And there is almost no stretch so it's either too tight and hurts to wear or it is falling off your face. Gaiters need to stretch. Would be better in merino, especially at $40.

Great for added concealment on any hunt! Fits very well and stays tight and snug without always wanting to fall off. Also, this piece is very comfortable.

Very lightweight and comfortable. Stays up on your face without having to constantly adjust it as well. Nice piece by Sitka!
