Mountain Hauler 4000

Bought this for a Moose -Mountain Goat hunt in BC. Pack worked well, I traveled light So everything I expected to take with actual fit, even the travel clothes for the ride home. Plenty of places to add the extras that you like to have for the demands of the remote hunt. I did break this in by taking the pack on weekly 4-5 mile hikes each ( highly Suggest this ). Comfortable from the get go but after a few wears it's even better.

Good Pack, Some Quality Concerns

I used this pack once for my annual elk hunt. Overall, the pack held up well taking 3 trips up and down a mountain side. The webbing on the side holder does not seem to be very durable and tore after only one use. I sent the customer service a warranty request and they said that this is normal wear and tear. So in my opinion, if the pack is tearing after one hike outdoors there are some quality concerns.

mtn hauler 4000

pack is well designed and comfortable. compression straps help secure loads and keep gear, clothing and equipment tight. foam padded shoulder strips and hip belt are very comfortable and keep pack tight against my shoulders, back and hips. i don’t get any sway.

Carried a great bull with no issues

absolutely fantastic pack, very comfortable for long days on the mountain. carried well right around 100 pounds in it and it rode on my back great. Would recommend to anyone. not a huge fan of the internal meat shelf system but it does work with this design. the straps for the head and antlers is really good design. makes securing the head and cape to the pack very secure

I got the solid green

I got the solid green one, not sure if the cammo version has the same materials, but it is a little bit noisier than some of the competitor packs I've used in terms of zipper and fabric rustling. You can haul 3 days worth of gear, or an elk quarter, but you cannot haul both at the same time. Very sturdy, very adaptive to fitting me right, loads of straps for secure fit and adjustments. Comfortable to wear for miles and hours on your feet. I like the attention to detail for the load out mode usage.

I just got to use

I just got to use this pack for the first time on an elk hunt this week. It has about every feature I would want in a multi day/ meat hauling bag. The frame seems to fit true to size the buckles and straps all seem to be in the right places and I hauled around 50# in it for about a mile, and was impressed with the way it handled it. Not a comprehensive test, but first impressions tell me that I am going to really like this pack. The only negative thing I could find to say is that the material used is louder than I would like, but I will sacrifice some noise for overall durability, as other packs I have used that aren't as noisy have had the material fail. I'm anxious to put more miles on and see how this pack holds up, but I believe its going to be good!

Amazing pack

When i first got this pack i started playing around with all the straps and configuring the pack around. It compresses down very small and perfect for a day hunt but then expands to a huge pack to easily pack out meat and your gear. The description or videos don't really show you all the cool little things that the pack has to offer. It's like they took 100 experienced hunters and everything they wanted on a pack for them they incorporated everything. It really is a well thought out pack. I loaded the pack heavy and hunted opening archery and i felt better than i ever have. I also loaded it a little lighter for the following hunts where it was 100 degrees and wasn't going to be hiking as far and the pack compressed perfectly. For me, it is the perfect pack to take for a simple day hunt to a 3 day backpacking hunt. There are some people that have said the material is loud and i agree it's not soft and silent like some other packs but i feel like the material is more durable. Also if i am digging into the pack, i'm not doing that when i am close to animals. Also i do not hunt in thick brush where this would be a problem.

Tough and comfortable pack

I've used my previous version of this pack for the last 4 years and I've packed moose, elk and gear up to 140lbs and it had stood up well and felt pretty comfortable even with heavy weight. It's been pretty tough too as I've covered hundreds of kms with it in tough terrain while guiding in northern alberta Canada.

Not for tall men

The pack will not fit extremely tall men. I am 6’9 and the load lifters will not pull the load off the shoulders even when straps are set to XXL setting. Other than the fit not working at all for me personally, the bag is very durable and has well thought out construction, organization was very easy. I really wanted to love this pack - please specify torso length requirements/maximums in the description, or perhaps design a more universal or different sized frame.

Great pack. Bought the 4000 for meat packing capacity but it shrinks down small for a day pack. Features galore and it took me a couple days to figure out how convenient they were. It did absolutely everything that I needed it to do well.

Great pack. Great material, simplistic design. I put a 100lb sand bag in the pack and went for a 3 mile hump. Super comfortable, no pinch points, runs, or squeaks. The only discomfort was from the weight. The only thing I wish it had or had the option of was waist belt pouches. I purchased the KUIU pro pouches and they slid over the belt nicely. An attachable rifle carrier would be nice as well. Overall, I’m very happy with the pack and can’t wait to really put in to the test next season. I chose the Med size pack, shoulders extended to XL. Height: 6’ weight 190lbs.

Haven't had a chance to use it on an elk hunt yet but the material seems to be very durable. The shoulder straps area easy to adjust so that it sits well on your back. Seems like something that will be capable of taking a beating. I originally hoped that I could use this as a backpacking pack for camping as well but the way its built, I don't think it would work very well

I got the Mountain Hauler 4000 when Sportco in Fife, WA had the digital camo pattern on sale. I have plenty of worn-out packs, and some that will never be worn out because they just are not worth wearing. The 4000 will be worn till it dies - which won't be soon. I wore it around the neighborhood hills a couple of times with a 50 pound bag of fertilizer, and was satisfied that the pack fit well and would carry well. The adjustments are easy, and the straps and buckles for cinching it up pull easy, and hold all day. On my first trip I camped in just a mile from the end of the motorcycle trail and shot a spike elk just 2 miles farther down the mountain. Took more than a full day to get the meat and camp back up to the truck, but I am grappling-distance from 60. The pack gives no pressure spots, rides the old hips up high causing no additional effort to step up, (and no resultant hip-joint pain) and sits still and quiet. First load was 80 pounds in the pack. Both meat bags on the meat shelf, with the bellows zippers released for the extra volume. Carried the rifle and the head in hand. Subsequent loads were smaller. Cleaned it up and wore it as a day-pack for my Idaho elk hunt, where we were skunked. Did see one buck take the wilderness moving sidewalk. The pack still looks new. So happy with this purchase. Male, 59. Average height and weight. No banana for scale.

I have been a professional

I have been a professional hunting guide since the late 80s. I have had many different packs over the years. Sitka mtn hauler 4000 is hands down the best pack that I have ever owned. When you are packing heavy loads is when this pack shines. It manages the weight as an extension of your self. You carry the weight without your load shifting or swinging around. The packs strapping system has been well thought out.
