Mtn Hauler

This is the second mountain hauler I've purchased. The first was for me 5+ years ago and it's been on my back for many miles, many hunts and hauled a lot of meat, still works as good as new. This second one I just purchased for my son on his 16th birthday, and is his first "legit" pack. The fit is comfortable, the frame is strong and light, the material is durable and much more water repellent than most pack materials, and it's just the right mix of simplicity (main bag, pockets on where useful, easy to use straps/buckles) and complex in a few areas it matters (strap options, meat shelf, zip open added cubic inches, zipper access in hard to reach places, etc. ). I love this pack.

Western Hunt Success

This pack came in clutch. Very comfortable, even when hiking miles a day in Montana. Weight distribution is great, especially when we packed out from a successful hunt. The internal strapping system for packing out meat really makes a difference. You get zero load sway. Solid pack.

A Pack Made For the Long Hunt

Extremely comfortable fit. Very spacious with the ability to increase carrying capacity. Perfectly designed for a multi-day backcountry hunt. Hip belt pouches are not included which is unfortunate, same with a pack cover. Quality is top notch and the shell blocks rain and snow nicely. Pack adjusts very well to create a snug and well-balanced fit. Water bottle side pockets can be a bit too tight when using a typical Nalgene, making it difficult to get them in and out. Brain pouch is spacious and easy to access while moving. Overall a well-designed pack made with hunters in mind.

Nice. But I really do like the concept of a meat shelf not in the pack. So that’s why I returned it

Nice pack

I like the overall design, lower dry bag for light/bulky gear is nice. I just wish there was a overload shelf for quarters.

Great Pack except for the noise

I’ve been using this pack since 2021 and figured it was time for a review. It has been through a lot with me across a lot of miles. I am able to hunt with about 7 days of camp on my back before the pack starts to feel like it’s getting out of hand. After setting up camp and dumping off gear, I remove the top “easy access” part and have my hunting pack setup, which is very nice and small. I’ve packed out 2 elk with it, no complaints. This pack has it all, which unfortunately includes noisy and constant squeaks. I’ve tried to mess with every strap tightness but there is just no cure for it unless you loosen all the straps so the pack is basically hanging off you. I’m really not sure if I’d recommend this pack to someone when there are so many other options which probably hold as much stuff but doesn’t squeak as much. It hasn’t busted any animals for me but it really does get annoying when every time my right foot hits the ground my left shoulder strap sounds makes a noise.

So squeaky the pack cannot be utilized. Customer service was not helpful at all. I sent the pack and I was told the hip belt seems to be squeaky and they sent it back (thanks for the diagnosis). I expected some sort creativity and problem solving from the staff but hey now I’m stuck with this pack so I guess it’s my turn to be creative I guess. I actually like the pack itself and it’s design and it is quite comfortable too.

Good pack but very loud

The pack holds weight nice and tight but it squeaks allot when walking I thought there might be a breaking in period with the pack but not the case. Good pack for packing into a camping trip but not for a quiet hunt. I ended up buying a different bag to hunt with.

Too noisy

Built very well, with a great design but the frame and the water resistant material rub which creates a lot of noise making the pack a poor choice for hunting.

Western Mule Deer Hunt. Works great

This worked great out west on our Mullie hunt. The internal strapping to cinch the harvest down to prevent movement was key and worked great. Still had plenty of room left without the worry of overloading

I bought this pack about

I bought this pack about 4 years ago and it is still going strong. I have carried many animals out with this pack, including antelope, deer, and elk, all with ease. The pack distributes weight across your waist, not putting all the pressure on your shoulders and back. The pack is also very tough. I’m by no means easy on the pack and there are only minor tears on some of the side pockets that have thin fabric. Our biggest pack out, I had about 100lbs of meat in the pack.

I bought this pack after

I bought this pack after a lot of resource with other brands. I am very glad I did. I took it to Montana for two weeks elk and deer hunting. It opens up to fit everything you need for at least a week at a time on your back but it'll pack down to a nice size for hunting away from camp. I wish it had one or two more small zippered pockets because I tend to overload the hood with small items, but that is my personal preference. Can't make everyone happy. The pack makes a little squeaking noise unless you cinch it down tight. Most packs are the same way. I recommend this pack if you're trying to decide between one or two. Like the rest of Sitka's gear it was built by hunters who were thinking about hunting.

Got my pack this year

Got my pack this year and have been incredibly happy with my decision to try it out. These packs are like unicorn tears in Canada and with a price tag as steep as this, it was a bit of a leap of faith. Here are some of the pros of the pack. Blood washes off of the material easily, the adjustability in the shoulder harness, waist belt, etc have been simple and intuitive to customize it to my body, the frame system carries weight comfortably, the load sling/meat shelf was fast and easy to configure in the field, shoulder straps and belt are comfortable and didn't cause any hot spots or rubbing. Now for some of the cons... It seems like the shoulder strap webbing being made of 3/4' webbing and not 1' caused the shoulder straps to loosen off after a while of hiking and I was having to retighten the straps every 400 yards or so. The load lifter adjuster straps and the buckle for the lid are so close together that when I'd shoulder the pack, I'd notice that the lid had caught on the load lifter adjuster and loosened it off. I'd settle the pack and then have to tension the load lifters maybe 3/10 times that I'd shoulder the pack. All in all, this is a very comfortable and well built pack and I'm happy that I bought it. I've used it for backpack cardio, hunting multiple species this fall, and got to snowshoe out my whitetail with it as well. It's got 4/5 stars because of the few cons that I mentioned but I would definitely buy this pack again knowing what I know now.

Very well thought out pack

Very well thought out pack with all the bells and whistles. Took it on a weeklong back country elk hunt and I will say if you’re close to being in between sizes, let’s say a 34 inch waist like me, go with the size smaller. I thought with layers on it would fit good but I’m sure Sitka already accounted for layer thickness. Still a great pack with no complaints, just if you’re in between sizes, choose smaller. I’m almost maxing out the waist straps.

This pack has been everything

This pack has been everything I could have asked for! I’ve packed out a whole muley on one trip in Wyoming and then just yesterday a whole boned out cow elk all in one trip! I’ve used some other cheaper packs but this one right here is definitely worth the money! Have had it two years now and it’s been on 6 back country hunts so far and multiple trips just hiking the mountains around the house and it has yet to fail me. I believe the way you are able to pull the load so close to your back makes the biggest deference for me, I would encourage anyone looking for a pack to really consider this one as you won’t be disappointed!

Amazing pack! Went on a multi day elk backpacking trip in colorado after a snow storm, with a full pack and loved it! There are so many pockets and I ended up putting my rifle on one of the sides with the stock in the water bottle pocket and strapped it in and it worked great! Can’t ask for more in a pack. Super comfortable, And tons of room, shocked how much this pack expands.

I absolutely love this pack.

I absolutely love this pack. Picked this up last year for the 2020 season. This pack was amazing as a backcountry carry all, to the day hunts away from camp. The meat shelf ended up being put to use, and let me tell you with 2 rear quarters and extra this thing was comfortable. Its dead quiet, extremely durable and the DWR sheds water as expected. Do yourself a favor and get this pack! Sitka knocks it out of the park again. That being said, it would be nice to have a lightweight rain cover option like they used to offer?

I used this pack on

I used this pack on a successful elk hunt this past September in CO. Hiked 7 miles back to the truck with 120lbs of meat. The following morning my bro and I went right back in the mountains to retrieve our gear. All I can say is WOW. I'm about 6'1 185. Pretty lean and skinny. But this pack held up very well and set as comfortable as possible with all the miles we trekked and weight we carried. My bro had the 4000 pack. He didn't have any complaints either.

Just returned from an Antelope

Just returned from an Antelope hunt in Oregon and was able to use, for the first time, my 6200 pack. I was able to put the whole animal (Quartered) into the pack along with the cape and make a 2.5 mile hike out in the desert in 98 degree temps. I can honestly say this pack was durable, easy to load and the weight distribution made it extremely comfortable. Was able to move all my contents (Spotting Scope, additional game bags etc) to the outer compartment with more storage than I needed. Cant say enough about the versatility of this pack, already looking forward to deer and elk season.

Nice pack, fits well and distributes weight very well. After one backcountry trip I found multiple holes in the pack. All from catching on small branches and twigs. By no means was I tough on the pack. I was disappointed that it didn’t hold up like I expected.

I just got back from

I just got back from a week in the backcountry with this pack. I was fortunate enough to be able to load it down with meat and really test it out. After packing several miles, I had zero issues with the load or with the pack. It fit well, didn’t leave any sores or chafing, and had plenty of room for my spike camp gear plus meat. Great pack, can’t wait for the next chance to use it!

Big game hauler

Packed a moose out this year with it. Cons: the middle straps and divider are almost pointless with a large quarter stuffed in the pack. Was hoping to sinch down some of the weight towards my back when hauling meat out. Additionally it was hard to clean the waist belt because of the foam. Pros: Fit was perfect and light on the back. I loved the ability to enlarge or compact the hauler as needed with gear. The outer pocket along with the brain helped store vital gear when hauling out meat. The ability to detach the brain helps adjust what you're packing out to fit properly. Lastly the material of the pack was great for inclimate weather and blood soaked game bags.
