Best jacket I have ever had to keep you warm and dry. I have the Hudson Jacket also but it does not stop the cold wind like this one does. It is worth every penny to stay warm and dry waterfowl hunting while working a dog that is going to get you wet in any thing but this jacket. The Hudson jacket keeps you dry but not as warm and I use it for when it is 40+.
I have been a Texas waterfowl guide for the last 55 years. Thank you.

This is the warmest and most powerful rain defense jacket I have ever tested. This is the single stand alone product that made me a believer in Sitka. I used to think it was overpriced and just a fad. I was proven wrong when I finally gave in and bought a system. Best hunting gear you will ever put on.

I had my reservations about the price of the Boreal jacket. I have been an avid waterfowl hunter for over 25 years. I have pushed lots of gear past their limits. One day I was hunting, in California, with a friend and my two sons, in a driving rain storm. We spent 6 hours in the blind. My boys and I had on quality gear, but not Sitka. My friend was wearing a Sitka Boreal. At the end of the day we headed back into town for lunch and had to drop our jackets in dryers at a laundry mate, but not the Sitka. He was dry to the bone. My eldest son was going to the University of Nebraska the following fall. I made sure to send him off with a Sitka jacket. Winter water-fowling in Nebraska would be our field test. After it passed the test in Nebraska, I purchased jackets for myself and my other son. Now we look like Sitka pro staff. Head to toe Sitka. It's expensive, but worth every dollar.

I mainly hunt deer but wanted a very warm and rain proof jacket. The Boreal jacket met all my needs and the material was not to loud for ladder stand hunting. I had deer 20 feet from me and no issue with sound. I get cold very easy and the Boreal was warm beyond my expectations. 38 degrees with winds at 20 mph gusting to 30 and I stayed warm all day in a ladder stand. Zipped up the jacket and pulled up the hood and felt like I was in a sleeping bag. Very warm and very comfortable. It nice knowing I can be in a stand with it raining and stay warm and dry all day. I am 5 ft 9 inches and 245 pounds so I ordered the xxl. Fits great giving me room for 2-3 layers if needed. Outer material is tuff and will stand up to tracking deer in the briars.

This jacket is just plain WARM. It doesn't get much better than this. From duck hunting late season laying in a foot of snow, walleye fishing on big open water when it's 20 degrees doing 45mph across the lake on a boat with no cab, steelhead fishing standing in a river when its 15 degrees outside, plowing snow on a four wheeler during a blizzard, trekking across a big frozen lake on a snowmobile or four wheeler when it's spitting snow, coyote hunting when it is below zero outside. You will stay perfectly comfortable and dry. This thing is MONEY!!

Let me start off by saying how big I am for sizing purposes. I am 5 ft 9 in and weigh 245. I wear 40 to 42 inch pans in 30 length and wear a XL or XXL jacket or size 48 sport coat depending on the cut. I do not like tight fitting hunting clothes as I like to layer and I don’t want to be packet in tight. The Boreal I ordered was XXL not knowing if I should have ordered the XL. The jacket Is very well made and surprisingly light but very warm. I use it for deer hunting and it is somewhat noisy material but being waterproof, very durable, and warm I was willing to put up with that. The jacket fit was a bit loose but I have room to layer and not be bound up inside. I hate cuffs that bind my wrist and these do not. My hand slips right through the cuff and you can then tighten it down as needed. The jacket will look big on you because of the down filling. I am very pleased and excited for this winter coming up and I do not fear going through thickets tracking deer in this coat. I find it will also be perfect for cold weather upland bird hunting which is another great part of this jacket. I am going to wear the mud color Dakota pant with the jacket For cool weather and when cold I will wear the Hudson bibs with a baselayer and the Dakota pant as a layer system. I am not wearing the Boreal bibs as I like the full coverage of the Hudson bib and I have more options for very cold to cool temperatures being layered with the Dakota pants. Looking forward to a deer, upland set up with a wide range of temperatures while hunting with this system. Will also add a insulated hoody and vest later which should fit nicely under the jacket as I have the room.

I cannot stress how amazing this jacket is. I am an ice fishing guide on greenbay on Lake Michigan. I know this jacket isn't designed for ice fishing, but I went a season with the top brand for ice fishing gear. I found my self soaked, cold and mad at the end of the day. I needed something that could handle below 0 temps, Winds that rip across the open ice and cut threw to the bone. I needed something that could handle driving clients back and forth all day in an open cabbed UTV with tracks flinging snow, water and ice. I spent a lot if time researching this system and decided that it couldn't be any worse than the gear I had last season. After the first week of wearing the jacket in less than desirable conditions I cant believe how incredible it truly was. It cut the wind and there was no chill. It kept me warm, but most of all it kept me dry. After a 14 hour day of running clients back and forth from shore to shacks and a constant spray of ice and water on my jacket and bibs I was dry. I couldn't believe it. The other guides were completely soaked threw, wet cold and weighed down. I would highly recommend this jacket paired with the bib pants that complement the jacket. Thank you Sitka for making a jacket that actually protects you from the worst elements you can imagine out on the ice. The guides I work with wished it was made in a solid color. Thank you Sitka, owner for life.

A great toasty warm jacket. The thing I like is its not bulky so you can shoulder your gun a lot quicker and swing smoother. Advice is I am a perfect large 5' 11" @ 200lbs, but the large was a tad tight in the shoulders and didn't allow much layering. Sent back for an extra large and the fit is absolute perfect, so keep that in mind when ordering.

Wonderfully designed jacket for waterfowl hunting. I was looking for a well fit and slim cut design to keep air out of the core area which allows for maximum warmth. This jacket suits multiple layering options that will handle any situation from boat rides in the march to long walks to a blind. The hood fits great and has a soft liner around the neck area that does not rub or irritate. Pockets are well thought of and useful. I would recommend trying on different sizes and think about the situation you will be hunting. I wanted a well fit jacket and was not looking for one to go over waders. If looking for a wader jacket, I would prob go with the shell and layer properly. Overall very pleased, I tried on at least 4 other brands and was extremely disappointed with the fit and designs. The cost was high but worth it, I highly recommend it to any serious waterfowl hunter. Do your homework, research the different styles and be aware of your frame and body type. What works for one body type doesnt necessarily work for another.

Wearing the Boreal Parka and Hudson Bibs hunting waterfowl and going to High School Football games in Minnesota this fall was a God send!!! We were on average 20+ degrees colder than average. 98% of our lakes are now frozen a week before duck hunting actually closes. I was out every weekend of the hunting season with my Sitka Waterfowl Gear!!! It is fantastic, functional, durable, warm, waterproof clothing that will get you comfortably through the worst weather. Late September fishing is Canada hovering between 28-40 degrees in a week of snow and rain. High School Football game in Bemidji, my son was a senior captain on Alexandria’s team, was 37 and raining the whole game. I stayed warm and dry. And breaking ice waterfowl hunting right to the bitter end. By the way, in mid October my son and I on the same night arrowed 10 and 8 point bucks using your Elevated Fanatic Sitka coat!!! Great memories!!! Thx Sitka!!!!

Bought this jacket a year ago. Have been on numerous field hunts with it in south dakota chasing snows, to breaking ice with the Boreal under my waders in Minnesota, to using it as a jacket for a south dakota rooster chase on one of the biggest tests you can put it through, -32 degress with a -43 windchill. This jacket does the job. Holds up to the elements and fits snug to your body. If you are whining about it not fitting, probably try them on first. Many great stores across the states that sell these amazing quality jackets. Get yourself one. Wont regret it.

THEIR JACKETS RUN SMALL...I usually wear a Large and need to return and get and XL just to be able to zip up the Boreal over my waders. very warm and dry, plenty of pockets, you'll forget where they are all located. Would definitely find a place and try on first or order the next size up than you normally wear.

The Sitka Boreal jacket is truly worth what you pay for. I personally have owned this jacket for 3 going on 4 years now and have loved it. Living in Minnesota has allowed me to test this jacket to the fullest extent. This coat is not made for 40 degrees you will simply get to hot wearing it. It was built for cold weather. One of the main advantages this coat has is that it’s in goretex which is a life saver. Going out in the rain to duck hunt only works with a good water proof coat. There is two ways of doing that ethier having a warm goretex coat like the boreal or layering underneath with clothing and putting a goretex shell over the top. Other coats without waterproofing simply don’t work, the jacket gets wet and then the cold really starts to feel cold and then you have to go in to warm up. It’s truly amazing to watch the rain it you wearing the Boreal and then watching run right off the coat. The other benefits this coat has is that it was built with comfort and orginization in mind. The amount of pockets is unreal and it’s easy to stay organized. The fit is also a huge benifit this coat is tight where it needs to be and lose where it should be. Overall this is my new favorite coat and I will always buy Sitka for there well thought out gear. Thanks hope this helps the decision. RJ

I started looking for a cold weather hunting jacket earlier this fall after my old on just wasn't cutting it anymore, and heard great things about Sitka. Ordered a L and it was just a little too snug, exchanged for an XL, and it fits much better. I must be between sizes though as it's not perfect- the sleeves and length is great, but a little big in the chest. However I will be able to layer much better under it now instead, which will be good. If Sitka made Tall products this would be 4 stars.
The quality and construction is amazing. Pockets are warm and well placed, zipper is rugged, the high collar and hood is a must- a great built jacket. Used it for the first time last weekend in 34 degrees with NW wind and light rain, and stayed incredibly warm and dry on the long boat ride and in the blind. Looking forward to many more years of use.

To start this review off I would like to tell anyone who reads this post that this coat is awesome. If you are ify or wishy wash about getting one do it. The area I live in is Mid Minnesota. If your not familiar with the area we have a vast range of seasons and tempatures, summers in the 90s and winter temps as low as -20. That being said this coat handles -20 great, but on the other hand if your winters are around 40 degrees this coat might make ya a little warm. My only complaint is the zipper some times it gets stuck on material under it. So it's not a bad zipper they just should of sewed the material underneath tighter. One other thing to be careful of is with the inside of the jacket. I have noticed that the fabric holding the insulation in is relatively delicate. So be careful not to where a rough under garment. Sitka did a great job with this coat. Overall thoughts are positive. Pick yourself up one of these and get lost in the great outdoors.

A very well constructed coat, but I really have not had it long enough to experience all of the elements in my area. I'm sure it will do well like the other Sitka gear I have purchased.

The only negative I have with this coat thus far is the front zipper. The interior storm flap is constantly getting jammed in the zipper so it doesn't operate properly - very frustrating!

My wife is looking to use a strip of Velcro to keep the storm flap pulled back and away from the zipper, but that defeats the purpose of why it is there in the first place. I wish there was a simple solution to this issue, so if anyone has any suggestions I would welcome the feedback.

I just returned from a hunting trip with 25 mph winds, 15 degrees and a sleet storm. My boreal jacket was AWESOME!!! I was warm all day and 100% dry. I also liked that the jacket was not at all bulky. In my opinion the best cold weather waterfowl jacket ever made, nothing is even close. I usually take an XL but went with a 2XL and it fits perfect with a few layers underneath. I am not a gore tester so I am not biased. Worth every penny and then some.

Very well designed jacket. Going from the Drake 4 in 1 to this coat I was instantly impressed. From the two sets of lofty fleece lined pockets to the internal cargo net on both sides that can keep extra gloves warm or accommodate large chemical hand warmers this jacket has thought put into it! The fill really lofts up to create a warm barrier to trap heat and the gore tex keeps you dry. They also designed the coat to have zero insulation in the last 8" or so of the jacket so it does not absorb water when deep wading setting dekes or grabbing birds. The shell pockets are lined with tough fabric to keep from tearing or wearing and have magnets to keep the flaps up so grabbing shells is a breeze. My only insight would be to go a size up if buying this for a true late season jacket. I fell into the Large parameters but after trying it on over a sweat shirt and then putting it over heavy neoprene waders I quickly realized I needed an XL and sitka had no problem exchanging it for me. The larger size felt bulky at first but when shouldering my gun I felt no restriction at all. I am NOT a Gore gear tester so I have a completely un-biased opinion. The price really is up there but what you get for that money is well worth it.

The addition of this jacket has taken the cold weather gear for waterfowl hunters to a new level. The idea that a hunter can now have a down jacket that is 100% waterproof is going to allow hunters to stay in the field longer and harvest more birds. The fit of the jacket is great and doesn't feel to bulky when wearing is. This will allow the hunter to have a full range of motion when drawing on approaching birds. The hood on the jacket provides excellent protection and actually moves with the hunter so that your view is not obstructed. Hunters will have ample pockets to store accessories for a full days hunt. Two fleece lined handwarmer pockets are set high on the jacket. The Boreal Jacket is designed to keep hunters warm, but you will still want to layer underneath to provide a hunting system. As a GORE gear tester, I have been able to use this jacket in all conditions including temps down to -20 and windchills in the -40 degree range. I was remarkably comfortable in the Boreal Jacket.

I used this jacket on an all day duck hunt during the blizzard that hit the St. Louis area on 1/5/14 and it kept me warm and dry all day with the core shirt and traverse shirt as layers underneath the jacket. Yes - it is pricey - however, all day long I kept thanking myself for the purchase. Highly recommended if you hunt during extremely cold/wet conditions!
