Since the very beginning, Sitka has been involved with conservation efforts and organizations. We know how important it is to protect wild places and conserve species populations. It’s about being good stewards of the land and making sure future generations will enjoy the same harvests we do.
Few conservation organizations have been around as long as Ducks Unlimited. In the 1930s, a core group of hunters refused to sit idly by and let bird populations and habitats dwindle in the intense drought of the Dust Bowl. For over 70 years, Ducks Unlimited has worked to conserve wetlands and waterfowl. They’re mission is simple and hasn’t changed since their beginnings. They aim “to fly the skies with waterfowl today, tomorrow and forever.” That's why we support them.
Since the 1930s, Ducks Unlimited has restored and protected 13 million acres of waterfowl habitat in North America. They’ve partnered with individuals, landowners, agencies, scientific communities and companies to make their mission a reality. They’ve even influenced legislation to make protecting waterfowl habitats a priority.
Ducks Unlimited just released a new video about the importance of balance. Sitka Pro Staff member Joel Yeldell talks about balancing everyday life, chasing birds and protecting waterfowl. We want to thank all those involved with Ducks Unlimited, and urge everyone to think more about the places they love and the species that reside there. Click here to become a member of DU.
