Downpour Pant

  • Whitetail : Elevated II
(15 Reviews)

Typical rain gear is notoriously noisy, which is a nonstarter in close range encounters with the buck you’ve been patterning all year. The Downpour Pant solves this problem with a 100% waterproof and breathable 3-layer GORE-TEX fabric featuring a soft, brushed face that keeps you deadly silent in the treestand. An articulated fit is designed for optimal range of motion when climbing a tree.

I put my Downpour pants and jacket to the test during a 10 day hunt in northern Newfoundland this fall. I am very pleased with the gear. It kept me warm (wore merino wool and/or polyethylene undergarments as they are warm with little bulk), dry and comfortable the whole time. We spent all day everyday for those days and went through heavy downpours, wet snow, sunshine and high winds. My hunting buddies had bulkier gear and could feel the bite of the wind - but not me. I shot a couple Canada geese on one afternoon and had to wade into water above my knees to retrieve them. I was wearing calf height rubber boots and the Downpour pants over top of them. I was fully prepared to get my legs and feet wet in the name of roasted goose. I was pleasantly surprised as I waded in - only a small amount of water trickled above one boot and as I waded deeper, the water pressure coupled with the Goretex acted like waders. I crossed a stream over 200 feet wide and was only slightly damp on one calf where water had leaked from the leg opening of the pants up to the top of my boot. I was expecting I'd have to return to base and change clothes, instead I got to keep hunting for the rest of the day. I was really impressed by that!

I put my down pour line (Jacket and pant) to the test on opening day of bow season. Constant rain with periodic hard rain. Sat for 4 1/2 hours and came back home bone dry. I highly recommend this line of water proof gear. Sitka nailed it once again.

These are a very versatile piece of clothing that I love having in my kit. The wind and water resistance is what really stands out with these pants. I am able to layer these pants with a base layer and insulated sweatpants and am comfortable into the 20s. However, I am also able to wear just the pants during early season and do not get overheated. The pants zip all of the way down the side so that is a plus, as well. If I do get too hot, I just simply unzip and allow for airflow. I have been on the fence lately about purchasing a pair of bibs, but I think I am going to use that money to purchase a Fanatic jacket instead.

Great pants. Keep me dry when the rain comes a fallin. You can zip up or down the legs which is nice for venting during a long walk in or out to the stand and also makes putting them on easy while in the stand. I will say, If you anticipate layering a base layer and one outer layer underneath (say a equinox or stratus pant) I would order a size up. I have a large and it is a tight fit when putting on over the top of those under layers. They would fit perfect if I just had one base layer underneath but I find that I'm usually needing some warmer insulation at times when i'm wearing these.

As I reviewed the jacket, these pants are the best their is for a quiet, waterproof, breathable rain pant. Put em in your tool box when the chance of rain is there. The pack down pretty well and are easy to put on once the rain drops start falling. Once on, you won’t have about making a crunching nylon crackling sound when it’s time to draw back as the brushed surface softens the layer and quiets it’s crinkling.

I love these pants. I call them my pajama pants because they are very comfortable! I love how durable they are, how they keep me warm and dry and that I have no issues layering under them. I usually wear thermo leggings or fleece leggings or both, and I am always comfortable. Unlike other reviews, I find these pants to be very quiet! My husband has a pair of pants from a competitor and I find him to be noisier when hiking to our hunting grounds. All around I would recommend these pants to other hunters looking to stay dry, warm from the wind, comfortable and quiet!

I upgraded and spent the money to get high performance gear. First harvest of the year was an all day rain event. Came into camp super late, super cold and soaked to the skin. Bummer. Gonna look for the next 100% garenteed product.

They keep you dry! I've gone through many pants, trying to see who's waterproof guarantee will hold up. Sitka sure impressed me. I walked in the rain for hours, knelt and sat on the wet ground and stayed bone dry.
Brutally expensive, but phenomenal results!

The heavy gortex lining of the Downpour pants makes a slightly noisier than desired krinkling sound when walking. A fair trade in my opinion for staying warm and dry.

On those days when you leave for the woods and know you're going to get wet, these are a must! I was sick of sitting in slop on long treestand waits so made the decision to purchase these. Like others have stated, you do not have much room to layer so purchase accordingly! Overall very pleased with the effectiveness of the Gore Tex membrane.

Fit of the Downpour set is good. I am able to layer the pants and jacket over the Equinox and Stratus set but it is to small to layer over the Fanatic set.

I wore the Downpour set today while putting out a trail camera and doing some scouting during a literal downpour which resulted in flash flooding in the area (around 2 inches of rain in a 3 hour span).

Initially I was dry. By the time I got back to my truck, after walking 2 miles, my under layers were soaked. I will write a follow up review once I use the set in a hunting situation. But as of right now I am not confident that I will have the ability to walk in while it's raining, setup a mobile stand, and stay dry, which was my main intent for purchasing the downpour set.

These are nice rain pants. Really like the full side zips. I am like others. My biggest complaint is the sizing. You really can not layer under these and feel comfortable. I ordered another set a size up, and it felt huge even with layers underneath. I returned it because I knew I would not be happy with the bigger size. I kept the smaller size. I do not use the Downpour set much in my area. Almost hate to spend this kind of money to stay dry while hunting a few times a year, but it is a much have when it does rain, and I am a firm believer in the camo pattern effectiveness.

Love there products and this is a very pricey item for a rainy hunt but I believe its a must have. I couldn't give it 4 stars because they missed it with under sizing the pants. This should be sized according to over top of gear. The pants need pockets for this kind of coin and they fit tighter than the regular hunting pants. You must go up at least 1 size to accomidate layering and the pants should pack up like the jacket. SITKA gear is the best but they missed it on the pants!!!

I am 5-10 185 and wear a 33w-l33/34 length in jeans and I had to get the Large Long so in my opinion these run a little short. 1 pocket is all you get, for this kinda $$$ I think there could have been another pocket or 2 on these. Full length zips are great. Only Gore-Tex they sell that is quiet in the brush because of the brushed exterior. Athletic fit, not baggy
