Why We Made This

Waterfowl hunters were in need of a non-compressible insulating layer that could pull double, even triple-duty in terms of performance. Our design centered on stretch and fit as the differentiator. We chose a high-loft Berber fleece backer cut to be worn seamlessly under outerwear, delivering that needed core insulation. For the face fabric, we chose a high-gauge polyester knit for durability and a comfortable fit when layered into a system. The half-zip design allows for a hand-muff pocket lined in Berber fleece to keep hands toasty, and the hood has an integrated face mask for ultimate concealment. Thumbhole cuffs deliver that little extra warmth while making layering super easy.

I bought the WHITE gradient hoodie. It's awesome and I love it. But I just noticed that my zippers are actually the charcoal/gray color. So, not sure why it isn't fully white like the picture on the website? But just FYI.

Very warm and versatile piece, I wear it waterfowl and deer hunting. You are free to move with little to no bulk, I wear a t-shirt under it when it is in the low 30s.

This thing is amazing. If you have any doubts, buy it. Wore this in 6 degrees with a vest and thermal underneath, was warm as could be. This is a must have!!

This piece is a great addition to my hunting collection. This hoody offers free movement of my arms without the bulk and keeps the warmth enclosed even into the low 30's with base layers. My biggest turnoff for this hoody is the hood. It desperately needs to be redesigned. Due to the conformity of the hood, it does not allow you to look around with ease. There are multiple times each hunt where it restricts head movement which is crucial for a waterfowl hunter. I hope in the near future a new model is released that has a flexible middle layer that attaches the hood the the body which would allow for better range of motion.

This piece has become one of my "essential" pieces for waterfowling. Early in the season, when the temps are a bit warmer, this piece over a light weight base layer and I am good to go. As the season progresses and the temps drop, this is a fantastic insulating layer. Worn under a shell such as the Hudson Jacket and I am good in temps down into the 20's (with a merino base layer). All in all, a great piece from Sitka (as one would expect) and something that every waterfowler should have!

This piece is a great addition to my hunting collection. I use it hunting for ducks, geese and even whitetail tree stand hunting. I love that this hoody offers free movement of my arms without the bulk but also still keeps the warmth enclosed. I pair it with my Stratus vest and its perfect together on the cold early morning hunts.

I cant say enough about how well this feels to wear, the comfort of having just one layer and not a bulky feel makes the real difference in comfort for the day. Worth every penny.

Extremely durable and well built hoody, utterly impressed. You get what you pay for with sitka gear, the quality is unreal, fit is true to size. For reference I am 5’ 9” tall and 150lbs, I wear a medium

This is the warmest insulation piece I own. Sometimes in the mid 20’s id take off outer layer and just wear this jacket while putting out decoys. I’d get done and realize I didn’t need an outer layer because of how warm this hoody was with nothing but a base layer under. Throw a duck oven or Hudson over and you can hunt in the negatives with no issue. Although it does not have gore wind stopper I was amazed at how warm this hoody kept me throughout the season. Go to insulation piece for the days most stay at home.

The jacket itself is great. Extremely comfortable, warm, and extremely durable. The only downfall on this item is the cut of the hood, it is too far forward and impairs vision when looking around and behind you. I have a layout jacket and the hood on that jacket has a functional cut, would really like to see this jacket run a similar set up (high collar and cut-back hood).

I own a lot of Sitka, firstlite, kuiu and mostly Arc'teryx. The gradient line is absolutely phenomenal. Hoody and sweatshirt and sweatpants on steroids. I can honestly say it is the only line from any of the big three that keeps up with Arc'teryx.
Only thing I can say negative is packability. It's a set of thick sweats. That block wind and rain well enough for most Midwest hunting. And the pants! Perfect for rubber boots white tail hunting final outer layer.

Everyone has that favorite hoodie that they don’t leave home without. This is it! From road trips chasing mallards to single digit boat rides to the blind. This never let me down and the fit and mobility is perfect.

I waited till the end of season to write a review as to see how the product would preform, I was not disappointed. Layered with the core heavyweight hoody you can wear this into the low 30’s and be comfortable all day. Love the dark pattern for late season deer hunting as well as ducks. The only complaint I have is that the hood is a bit constrictive, but other than that the hoody is great

I believe that Sitka has no competition when comparing products. I looked at many different hoodies that Sitka offers and I decided to go with the Sitka Gradient Hoodie in Waterfowl Timber. It is a little snug fit, but I got a size bigger than I normally would just in case. I put it on and I found that it was a bit shorter than I expected. The thumb holes are not comfortable at all because they are short and they choke the base of the thumb. The face mask should either be totally redesigned or taken off. The face mask to the Sitka Fanatic Hoodie is great and I believe the face mask for the Gradient hoodie should be redesigned like it. Now the good: The Gradient hoodie allows the water to repel off with ease. It is very warm and comfortable fitting in the arms and chest. I feared that it would not mix well with other camo patterns, but it blends in pretty well. Sitka stands by their satisfaction guarantee policy. If you do not like it, then send it back.

Sitka Gear is top-of-the-line in its use of newer fabrics and design to explore and improve garment function for hunters and outdoors people. It is, however, pricey, so I look for dual function when I buy a Sitka piece. An example of this that didn't work for me was the Dakota Hoodie-- beautifully designed and made but too noisy for a deer stand though probably perfect for a duck blind. The GRADIENT hoodie solves the noise problem, is warmer than expected and comfortable, though I do recommend going up a size since Sitka has a narrow ("athletic") cut and some of us are not so narrow! I actually like the waterfowl patterns in the woods-- they blend in well during the fall. Another home run for Sitka Gear IMHO.

Hands down the warmest sweatshirt I own. Excellent worn alone or layering. Honestly the only thing I really think could be improved is the face mask. Its not really comfortable or functional.

Having worn this for a lot of the season I decided that having this and the dakota would be a good idea. So I ordered the dakota in Timber, and have my trusty gradient in Marsh.

Sitka nails it again!!

This is one of the best pieces in the Waterfowl line. Fits perfect keeps you warm even in cold temps. Throw a Dakota vest over it and your good in wind down to mid 20's. The hoods comfortable and the sleeve thumb holes are an upgrade from the gradient jacket much more comfortable. My only complaint is I want to buy another in Timber and my size is sold out!

They call it a sweat shirt but it's a heavy, thick sweat shirt and had me sweating at 45 degrees. The front hand pocket is great. It's lined and keeps my hands warm with no gloves. The hood with a built in face mask is a nice bonus as well. Highly recommend it for guys that like wearing sweatshirts instead of coats all the time.

Seems like a decent enough polyester pull over. It's not abnormally special aside from the marsh camo pattern, which is pretty good. Thumb holes are basically useless as they are poorly designed and uncomfortable. If you are considering this piece, I recommend adding a couple inches to your body measurements to choose your size. This is not a standard fitting garment. Everything is super slim fit, from the chest to the forearms.

Great insulation piece. Exterior is much like the traverse cold weather Hoody. High loft thick fleece inside with that classic "Hoody" pocket in the front. Only complaint and reason for 3.5 stars is the fact that the thumb holes suck. Very uncomfortable to wear them. I can definitely see wearing this to scout and around camp when it's chilly, then throwing on a shell when it gets really cold
