When the weather is still hot here in Kansas during teal and early duck the marshes with their shallow pools and stagnant water are a breeding ground for mosquitos. I tried regular permethrin treatments on my clothes but it didn't work. The insect shield in this garment really works and the facemask and hood and the fabric itself help keep those mosquitoes at bay! Also the loose fit helps it keep you cool and prevents sunburns too! Pair it with a thermacell and you should be golden.

Because I don’t want deet in my blood system I bought one for Spring fishing in Alaska. After ten-days at Outback camp I did not get one bight. When we went to Africa for all-out bush safari I doubled down and bought a second Equinox insect guard shirt. Keep in mind Africa the mosquitos are not just pest, they carry deadly maleria and yellow fever. After 18 days on safari, not one bite while wearing my Equinox hoodies. I’m a buyer and I’m a believer in th Equinox hoodies!

Sizing Runs Large The Sitka Equinox Guard Hoodie truly works as advertised. I used it during early season outings and didn’t get a single mosquito bite — the protection is excellent. Unfortunately, I had to return it due to sizing; the garment runs a bit large. That said, the return process was smooth, and the customer service was excellent throughout. The exchange for a smaller size was efficient and a quick turn around.

Mosquito infested Minnesota to Texas - I will not travel without Equinox

Trust me it works! It allows hunting in swamp blinds and living out of a tent a pleasure. No spray required. You just have to keep them off your forehead area, a good trade. Getcha Equinox and get out there.

Great, but delicate

I wanted to like this hoodie. It's super lightweight, really comfortable, the facemask is perfect (not too loose or tight), and is actually bug proof which was the main reason I got it. Two reasons for the low review. The sizing is way off. I'm a large/large tall in every other sitka product. The large equinox guard fits like a poncho. It's very baggy. Secondly, it's super delicate. I shredded one of the sleeves on a pretty small twig that I brush past every time I hike in to one spot I hunt frequently. I've never had issues with the core lightweight hoodie, Merino 120, and a few other lightweight tops from other brands. First hike in the equinox and it snags and leaves a huge running tear down the arm. I'd have expected snags or pulls, which are pretty common on my core hoodies, but this just caught and ripped pretty severely. Also- the subalpine finish is very shiny. I believe it's the fabric, but I've noticed that IR pics on my trail camera glow really brightly. Not sure if it impacts animals spotting me but it's different than pretty much every other top I own. Not an issue, just an observation.

I think it fits great and works well, I have not used it in the winter yet so I hope it helps with the cold. It works fantastic as a wind breaker and the mask is definitely comfortable. Still pretty expensive but glad I got mine while on discount and am definitely happy I did!

The best hoodie for bug protection and warm weather days

I have 2 of these hoodies. I’ve worn them 3 seasons during spring turkey hunts in the south east USA with ticks and mosquitoes everywhere. I just bought a 3rd shirt to wear because theyvcover it all bugs and the warmer season hunts. These garments are the best bug defense I’ve had yet. Thanks for a great product.

This is my first hunt with it. I’m greatly satisfied. Mosquitoes weren’t bothering me as bad as they used to. They were going after exposed areas like my hands and face. Still would use a thermacell to keep that from happening. Would definitely recommend this top for early season bow hunting and for for them thunder chickens too.

Light weight and comfortable.

I’m 6’3” and 205lbs. A Large fits nicely, not too tight and not baggy. It is also long enough to tuck in without it pulling out. Have not tested the insect guard yet but fit is perfect.

Equinox guard hoodie!

This is one of my favorite pieces of sitka gear. It actually works great at keeping insects away and is super lightweight and comfortable. Great piece for turkey season and early bow season.

All time favorite shirt!

This is the perfect shirt to wear in hot weather and keep the bugs away. Lightweight and breathable while keeping bugs from biting. Went through an ag field that had standing water in August, mosquitos were swarming everywhere, and I was the only one without bites on my torso because I was wearing this shirt. I normally wear XL in all my Sitka Gear but L works best for this as a base layer.

Legit

Wore for Ohio early teal and Goose season 2025. Zero bits, love the face cover and hood. Now need a light weight pair of gloves to stop the bugs from biting your hands

Defective Equipment

Love the hoodie and the concept. Have yet to try and see if the garment actually keeps the bugs off. My only complaint was upon delivery right out the package I noticed a hole in the hood lining by the face. I own plenty of Sitka clothing. Think I speak for all customers we pay too much for quality products to have it have holes right out the package. I called customer to explain my problem. The lady I spoke with was very understanding and polite, I received a discount on my next purchase. Respect the company and what it stands for.

Overall like the hoodie but it runs larger than I expected. If I compared this hoodie to a large core light weight hoodie , it would be an XL.

No bugs!

I now have one in every color cause they just work. It’s significant the amount of bugs around your face with this on! Get one!

Bug shirt

The Equinox Guard hoodie is our go to bug shirt for hunting , hiking, yard work, anything outdoors when the mosquitos are out. I've been wearing these shirts since they came out and have never been bit through the shirt.

I bought this bc I was curious if it would actually work. What a great shirt, super lightweight and stretchy, while other on the hunt were dealing with gnats and mosquitoes, I never saw them.
