The best thing about synthetic insulation is that it stays warm even in extreme, wet conditions. Until now, that reliability has come at the cost of bulkier and heavier products. The Kelvin Aerolite Jacket harnesses the insulating properties of trapped air to create synthetic insulation that replicates the low-bulk, highly compressible characteristics of down, but with warm-when-wet performance. We designed this go-to, versatile layer to keep you warm when you need it, yet disappear in your pack when you don’t.
Top notch jacket not bulky warm well made and a true fit! And a great price! What else is there G
My favorite new addition. Love this jacket
Very warm. Warmer than other “puffy” jackets I own. Need to layer against wind. Like that it works when wet (although it’s not meant to be water resistant). When I have the hood on it feels like a I have heater installed in the neck area. Surprisingly thin but gets the job done. I’m a smaller build barely registering in at 5’7, and it feels a bit baggy (size:M) for me (not fitted) but still fits fine. Thankful for finally having a go-to warm jacket.
Excellent quality and warmth. In fact, the coat is so warm or efficient, I only wish is that it had pit zips! it would be a solid FIVE stars!
Everyone should have one of these in our pack, it's versatile as a stand-alone jacket or layering system.
Great product,
Dave
Great and light layering jacket.
I would give five stars but the cuffs are so tight I have a hard time removing it.
I didn’t know my wrist were so large!?
I’m having the cuffs altered by adding a zipper
I own multiple pieces of Sitka clothing and am please by the performance of most of the gear. Some items do not fit as I would expect / hope and that has been a source of frustration. When it comes to this jacket, I am the most pleased that I have been with any piece of apparel that I own. Light weight, well-fitted, warner than expected. This jacket has supplanted much of my gear as it serves multiple purposes and is just an awesome jacket! Could not be happier with it!
This is a great jacket for warmth it’s amazingly warm for as thin as it is.As far as wind protection it’s not wind stopper but not bad.I’m 5”11 195 and large fits me very well easy movement not binding I have bigger forearms so if you know about Sitka sizing it snugg but not bad.I’ve been waiting for it to go on sale because I wanted a black one.My boys bought the gray on sale and it stains pretty easy. Finally the black got on sale so I got it.I got black to layer under anyway this way I could wear it casually to.I gave it 4 stars because the outer shell is not very durable at all I can’t imagine anybody actually hunting in this jacket.I’ve been wearing this jacket walking the dogs and 20 degree weather windy trying it out granite I’m walking but not fast with 14 year old dogs with the bottom cinched up the coat is definitely warm it’s lite and packable.Good coat for town or under your hunting coat.Wait for the Sale
I love this jacket. Im 5'8, 215lb and an XL fits me like a glove. Range of motion is great and its super warm. However, it has two fatal flaws.
I live in Wisco and even in the lightest snow with my body heat, it is water logged and worthless. A little DWR would have gone a long way.
And finally, this is the flimsiest material of any jacket Ive ever owned. I've had it two seasons now, worn mostly for dog training and commuting to work. (For which im not going to layer a shell over it). Occasional late season pheasant hunts. It rips constantly. I frankly cant believe this is marketed as hunting wear, because if you can't take it on light duty woods hikes with dogs, you certainly couldn't take it whitetail hunting in the sticks or for a week in the mountains.
To be fair, every other piece pf Sitka gear I have is super durable and top notch. But this has been repaired several times and is now a $300 piece of garbage.
This is now one of my go-to jackets. Works great as a lightweight mid-layer underneath a shell for cold waterfowling days or just around town. Not a jacket to wear as a single piece on super frigid days, but not designed to be either. I'm a stocky 5'11 and it was great to finally find a size L I could fit my arms into without feeling like a human sausage. Tapered ends of the sleeves prevent bunching and bulk under a shell, jacket still provides excellent range of motion if you're swinging a fly rod or a shotgun.
This jacket is simply amazing. It probably is just as warm as 3 lower quality layers that would amount to a lot more thickness than this is. This has me hooked on Sitka gear. one thin layer under this is more than enough to sit in temps down to 30.
Awesome jacket. I'll explain 4 instead of 5 stars in a minute. This jacket fits to size, is very warm, and extremely light. I'm not sure how it is this warm (I live in Alaska) and remaining so light. Will be a great inside layer underneath Sitka's great rain gear. The reason I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars is the outer shell is not very durable. On the second time I wore it, the outer layer snagged and a small tear occurred. You would not want to wear this as an outer layer in brushy-type country. Other than that, awesome jacket!
Love it. I’m 14, 5’7 125 pounds and the medium fits me perfect. Very warm, i recommend it for the price also.
This is a great jacket, the fit is athletic and it breathes very well. It also looks good and moves easily. I really like it but it has some shortcomings. The jacket material stains easily from any type of oil whether from just wearing it or being around equipment, and the elastic cuffs pill quickly. It does a great job keeping you warm into the mid to low 30s and It’s awesome for being active.
I give this jacket four stars because it on par with competitive insulated jackets but the material used stains easily from oils and can be challenging to clean. I recommend either getting a darker color like black or a camo pattern to hide the inevitable stains. The elastic material on the cuffs also pill easily but I think that is to be expected with the more delicate materials.
The jacket material seems durable enough and I have no complaints. It has survived a few swipes from my bow string and hasn’t had any issues with abrasion from packs or other tasks which is great. I am happy because mine is black and only the inside gray has stains from body oils.
TLDR: great design and fit, stays warm, breathes well, tough materials, gets dirty easily, would recommend to friends with managed expectations. Expectations are higher for Sitka.
I bought the coyote colored one and wear it daily. Great from 40 -60 degree weather. Not bulky and very comfortable. Bought the grey one as well. I own a lot of jackets and this is my go to for work, hunting and just wearing. Bought my sons each one and they wear constantly too. Great product. Only complaint is price but you pay for what you get !
I’ve had this jacket in blue since about August so 6 months approx, and used it in all types of weather and situations. It’s nice enough to wear to work, out in the cold or light weather. It can be worn beneath or over layers, it’s flexible. It packs down well and was ideal on a recent Ireland trip when I only wanted to pack ONE jacket. It’s pretty near the perfect everyday jacket IMO. It’s my one Sitka pc that isn’t for hunting- so I was skeptical. It’s warm in the fall but not too warm to wear inside (like in the truck) where other jackets would have me peeling off layers. It breathes well.I like both long and especially short sleeves underneath and it downs make my arms sweat. I love it and found a smoking deal on sale and pulled the trigger, I’m so glad I did.
Just wow, this might be one of the best puffy jackets of all time, super light and very warm. Currently using it in alberta cold winter wind with a Jetstream jacket. Good to -20c
My favorite waterfowl jacket. It is light and warm and also layers really well!
Great jacket, its hard to believe that it weighs so little and is so warm. I will buy more from Sitka!
The Kelvin Aerolite has exceeded my expectations. It is an extremely warm jacket that folds down to almost nothing in a pack or suitcase. It breathes very well for a puffy style jacket, and the hood makes it very versatile. Add a shell to it and you’re comfortable in sub 0 temps. I bought the black color for my daily wear and I’m ordering a subalpine for my long sits next year in the late season. I highly recommend this jacket.
This jacket fits great, and is a great addition to my Sitka gear.
Bought the jacket for everyday wear since I have had such good luck with my entire Sitka hunting wardrobe. Love the fit. Love the warmth. But the material is not good. Washed the jacket as the instructions read and I have stains all over it now. Very frustrating!
My new favorite cold weather jacket. Got the blue for when I’m needing a warm good looking jacket. Really warm and comfortable! May have to get one for hunting as well.
Only had it a couple weeks, but it is exactly what I was looking for. Light, thin and packable, all while being very warm. Wore it in 6° the other day and still couldn’t feel the cold getting through it.
Very versatile jacket for milder climates. With the light weight design and soft material it has proved to be my go to all the time jacket. The soft material makes for little to no noise when hunting and moving while game is close. I highly recommend this jacket as a light weight option, but could use with layers as well in colder conditions.
Excellent outer shell. Winter in Minnesota can be harsh but not with this jacket. I’ve only wore this over a sweatshirt but I have yet to be cold. It blocks wind amazingly, it’s super light yet very warm, and it fits very comfortably and not too noisy.
Love this jacket, Another well made high quality Sitka product. Kelvin Aero lite is supper warm for thickness . Size Large is perfect I'm 185 lbs. and 5'8'.
I have lots of Sitka product but this one really blow my mind. Prefect for 20 -50 Fahrenheit New England days .
Great packable jacket. Have worn this both as an outer layer and liner over the top of a windstopper jacket in really cold weather. Provides excellent insulation and warmth.
Pound for pound the warmest, windproof, jacket I own.. Would not have thought a jacket this light could be this warm. Can be used stand alone or is thin enough to wear as a liner in -20
This is probably my most favorite peace of Sitka gear I own. Hands down the most comfortable jacket I've ever worn. I hate to take it off, and even want to sleep in it. I have it in 2 patterns so far and will probably have a couple more before its all said and done. The Aerolite is a great hunting jacket on its own, great casual wear, packs down incredibly small, light weight, and can be layered easily. If you have a 20 degree sleeping bag but want to hunt/camp later in the season, don't buy another $500-$1000 0 or - degree bag, just sleep in this jacket!
Look, I'm as cheap as they come. I've tried almost every brand of hunting clothing out there and if I haven't tried it, I promise I've spent countless hours researching it. I'm the kind of person that will spend 4 hours researching a $20 product and comparing it before a purchase. I can say with absolute certainty that Sitka is the BEST clothing line on the market. Not just hunting clothes, but best overall. Their clothes are cozy, durable, and designed to keep you extremely comfortable with minimal layers and bulk. You can buy other brands and replace them every few years, or buy Sitka and your set for decades if not life. Buy once cry once!
Bottom line is this isn't clothing, its equipment. More than that, it's equipment that could quite literally save your life in the back country. Once you realize that, the price is absolutely justifiable. I trust this company so much that I will buy their stock if they go public and I'd quit my job to work for them if they have an opening. That is how much I believe in Sitka.
It’s amazing how lightweight and warm this jacket is.
Another great jacket by Sitka. Very lightweight and warm for what it is. I will wear this under a heavier jacket in extreme cold. Now I just need to purchase a vest or two.
This is my favorite jacket. I got a brown one a couple months ago and like it so much I bought a 2 more I different colors. It is very warm, and light
One of the best pieces of Sitka I own. Fit is great and super warm for being such a light jacket. Awesome as an outer jacket or used as a layer underneath without all the bulk.
Alongside my Apex Hoody, this is my favorite piece of Sitka gear that I own. I was lucky to find it at the price that I did at the time, but you really are getting a fantastic product for $300. This is my go to jacket and has been most of the winter since I first got it. EXTREMELY lightweight and packable, this thing barely feels any bigger than a light hoody, but functions as good as many of the other puffy jackets I've owned. In Utah, the winters get pretty gnarly and this jacket has done great. On the days I've needed a little more, this jacket has been able to slip over and work well with just about any other Sitka jacket that I own. Looking into buying another in a different color so I can save my subalpine one just for hunting. The ONLY thing I would change about this (not a complaint, more of a thought) is to give it a facemask similar to the traverse hoody. I end up using a gator quite a bit, but ultimately that hasn't and won't change my opinion of this jacket. Absolutely recommend this product.
I have been searching for a really warm light weigh jacket this is a perfect match for my mid layer works great I highly recommend this jacket
Great jacket! Light and warm!
Easy to see why this jacket is a favorite by so many. I love the versatility as I can use it in multiple situations. It's light, packs down nicely and surprisingly warm for its weight. I've found I reach for this jacket more than any other jacket in my arsenal.
I was apprehensive pulling the trigger on this hoodie. Living in Utah and hunting in 20 degree weather these last few weeks have made me appreciate this hoodie more than I would have ever expected. The hoodie is a little oven! I wear a base layer and this hoodie with a vest and that is it.
I would strongly suggest getting this hoodie, you will not regret it.
Very nice jacket. Good quality, very warm, good features, and all around a solid jacket. For my preference, this jacket has an ideal balance considering weight, warmth, packability, and durability (it didn’t seem fragile like other “lightweight” puffy jackets). BUT, I had to return it due to the cut. I have a fit / muscular physique, I need an XL in most jackets, and while this jacket fit great in my arms, shoulders and chest, the abdomen portion was huge, like it was cut to accommodate a good sized beer belly. Would have easily been my favorite piece if it wasn’t for the cut. Sitka took it back no problem, I just had to pay return shipping.
Bought it for my Adult son last year for Christmas. Really is a warm jacket, however the outer shell rips too easily. Not worth the money. The out side needs to be more durable.
I am not one who typically writes a review of products, but this one I had too. This is in my opinion the best lightweight jacket on the market I wear this jacket as everyday use and hunting. If you are on the fence about this jacket buy it it is more than worth it!!! Sitka you killed it with this one!
I spent a lot of time researching different brands for a lightweight insulated jacket to wear in temps 30-50F. I have the Kelvin Down jacket and assumed the sizing would be similar, however was cautious because some reviews mentioned how much room there is in the mid section/torso. I ended up ordering the same size (large). The fit is not as athletic as I was hoping, however the length of the sleeves and length of the jacket are fine. I can confirm that the mid section is a bit roomy, I wish it was more tapered. For context, I am 6'3", 170 lbs with a 32in waist and the large works just fine. It's a very warm jacket and I've worn it with temps as low as 26F with just a t-shirt on and was perfectly warm. The details on this jacket are superior which is what I have come to expect from Sitka.
Amazing product! Took it out on one of our coldest Texas mornings so far (40 degrees) and have to say it kept me warm. I don't think there are better products out there. At least I have not found any. Great job! I will definitely continue to wear it on my hunts. Hopefully I can get on a mule deer or elk hunt soon.
I am really impressed with this Jacket. I have it in black and camo and like both. They are high quality and fit well. I got the black coat in the longer version and like the extra length alot.
By far the best quality jacket in the market. No flaws and no weaknesses in this product or any SITKA product.
As a guide and outfitter this jacket has been put to the test. Being out in Kansas where the wind can blow … this jacket cuts the wind very well. The added warmth of this jacket for the light weight is amazing! It needs to be worn under an outer jacket for archery due to the louder profile. Overall I highly recommend this layer to your layering system!
The warmth of this jacket is higher than a 3. I’ve worn this jacket during winter elk seasons in Colorado in below freezing temps and it kept me nice and warm. I would not recommend hiking in it, but if you’re sitting in cold temps glassing, this jacket is the go-to. I’ve also turned to this jacket while waterfowl hunting in below 0 temps and it did its job. Also a great jacket wearing into town in 40-50 degree weather. Can’t say enough great things about this jacket. Packs away well too
Absolutely great jackets. I’ve recently purchased 2 more(lost weight). It works as an excellent mid weight alone or under a shell. It’s super light packable. I’m 6’3 230lb the xl tall is perfect fit wise. I put a Treble hook through the jacket and you can’t tell it ever had a hook in it. I wear this skiing, I also wear it under the dew point for spring turkey in 20 degree temps in NW Iowa or on its own in a ground blind.
The regular cut is slightly short if you’re using it as an every day jacket.
I love the jacket. Fit is perfect in all aspects. I’m 6’2” 210 pounds and I ordered the LT. It isn’t the warmest but it over-performs for how thin it is. Perfect for fall but not a stand alone piece for winter. My only complaint is how easily spots show on it from everyday wear, meaning it doesn’t conceal daily use very well. Isn’t the quietest fabric for you bow hunters out there either.
Sitka has the best customer service that I have ever received. The Sitka team definitely cares about getting you your order fast and the quality of the material is amazing. This jacket keeps me warm and isn’t heavy. I highly recommend this brand. It’s worth every penny. Sitka you guys rock!!!
A fantastic jacket. If MacGyver wore Sitka this is the jacket he'd wear! It's the Swiss Army knife of my clothing. Wear it hunting, to town, doing chores, to camp, literally everything.
The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that the shoulder and arm holes are narrow in sizing. So for it not to pinch my shoulders I have to size up and then have a lot of excess in the torso area. I'm 5'10" 200 lbs and wear a large in most Sitka. This I had to size up to a XL to be comfortable.
This is an amazing jacket. Light weight, durabale in brush, trees, and willows. Walked through some rough area and never ripped. Very warm, use it as a mid layer under the mountain jacket and the jet stream jacket. Hands down the best. Wife like to steal my jacket because she's like it.
I have not owned this piece for long, I usually try and wait a couple seasons before writing a review. I have worn this on 4 hunts now and it has become a main piece for me now. It is very warm for how light and thin it is. I layer it over a grinder hoody and have a Fahrenheit vest over top of this. I was hunting in 30 degree weather with 17 mph north wind and was warm
AWESOME - I own 4 different colors of this jacket and wear them according to the pursuit or heading into town. Being taller I enjot the tall sizing. I do recommend ordering up a size for additional layering and movement.
I'm a tall thin guy. It's nearly impossible to find jackets that are long enough without being gigantic. Enter the large tall size. I was so excited when I saw sitka makes LT sizes and I really need a camo puffy jacket. I tried it on and it was perfect until I put the hood on. They designed it with scrunchy elastic that is so tight you can't wear a hat underneath and can't have glasses because the hood is so tight it pulls them both down really hard. Bummer. Almost found a perfect jacket but not being able to use the hood makes it a no go. Sadly, returning.
I am 6' 2" and 235. Ordered an XL which didn't leave any room for anything other than a t-shirt. Ordered a XXL that leaves plenty of room for anything I want under it. The XL was a little snug in the shoulders. The XXL is not snug anywhere. I prefer the extra room. Nice jacket. Sale price sold me on the jacket. I own lots of sitka items. Usually not disappointed.
Purchased one of these in thunder color at a lower cost but immediately threw it in the wash to see if they claimed is true.. It IS true.. it's warming me totally soaked... crazy warm when wet.
Tried out a few different lightweight jackets that were packable as a piece of cold weather gear for backcountry elk hunting. This was by far the lightest and most packable in my bag and WARM! for the weight this thing is insanely warm, I end up wearing this thing for everyday use during the winter, I would say this is my second favorite piece of Sitka Gear and I own a lot (first being the boreal aerolite because of the brutal conditions it saves me from) a few things to note... it isn't very breathable so if your going to hike with this on expect to get sweaty and its a nylon type material so its not very quiet and going through thorns and stuff will tear it up. But if your looking for a very nice packable jacket for glassing or at camp in the AM/PM or even as a everyday piece of gear its worth it imo
This jacket is a great piece to wear by itself but its meant to layer you put any type of jacket under this and you will 100% stay warm.
Just received my Kelvin AeroLite jacket, quick shipping, great sale price. After looking over the jacket, I found no threads hanging, great quality as always with Sitka. This jacket folds up to nothing, and takes up basically no room in my backpack. As for sizing: I am 6'0' 180lbs, athletic build, and with all my Sitka apparel, I always buy size LARGE, this item fits perfectly. To go one step further, I tried on a core base layer, mid layer, and the Aerolite, no problem shouldering a long rifle. The only slight negative, is the hood is a little noisy. This makes no difference to me. Don't hesitate buy one on sale.
Light weight jacket. Decent warmth using at about 34 deg with base layer. The problem is the hood. The material on the inside of the hood is terrible. It sounds like I'm wear a potato chip bag on my head. The material rubbing on my head is so loud, making it not usable. Even just sitting and glassing. It's just too loud and annoying with the slightest movement. I tried layering the hood with a beanie and merino hoodie. Still no help.
I'll be returning for this reason.
This jacket is incredibly warm especially for the weight. I’m 6 foot 215lbs, I wear an XL in just about everything from Sitka and this jacket in XL fit great except for the midsection. I could probably fit a basketball under it. I would recommend trying to find a dealer to try on first if possible if you think you may be in between sizes.
Love this jacket. 6’3” 190. Large Tall fits perfectly. I wore this during Colorado’s 2nd rifle season last year and found that it kept my temperature very well regulated. I never felt too hot or cold, when hiking or glassing and a good jacket for hanging out at camp in the evening. Not for busting brush or rain protection but a great insulation piece and does that very well.
I was skeptical on this product. I love the Kelvin lite hoody. That said, this jacket is everything that jacket is but lighter and more refined. This piece will be in my pack all summer and fall. Even bought one in Black for around town.
SIZE XL: I am 5'10" 190lbs with a 46" chest, 35-37" arms, and 34" waist. The insulation and material seem excellent. But my goodness I can fit a watermelon under in the abdomen and cannot extend my arms or bring my elbows together. Not sure who these are cut for but it's not for those with wide shoulders and an average waist.
Sitka’s rating of this jacket was a little modest. It’s BA! I’m a bigger guy and often times Sitka jackets are a little tight in the shoulders. This jacket fits perfect. It’s warm and keeps the wind off. It will be one of, if not your favorite piece.
I have to admit I have been on a Sitka buying binge over the last year and a half since I purchased my first product. OUT OF EVERYTHING I HAVE PURCHASED SO FAR THIS IS MY FAVORITE.....and everything has been better than advertised on all products. (That's why I have two big totes full of Sitka gear at this point.) The whitetail hunting gear from bibs to hoodies to jackets was so good I wanted to buy some Sitka gear for "everyday" use. I was stunned by how warm the Kelvin Aerolite Jacket keeps me while being so light. Large size fits me perfect. and I'm 5'7", 175 pounds. It actually feels like it is a heated jacket. 30-50 degrees and it's all I need. Above 40, I don't even keep it zipped up all the way. I get lots of compliments and questions about it when I wear my black colored one out and about. HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT!
I read the other reviews before buying this jacket. I was skeptical when they said how light and thin this jacket it. Then I looked into the aerolite insulation. It seemed like the real deal. That's why I made the purchase. I was able to test it out recently. I'm from Utah so this is without humidity. It was 30 degrees out and blowing 20 mph. I was only wearing one of those thicker Carhartt shirts underneath. It blocked out the wind easily and kept me warm! I had on jeans and some Cabela's midweight bottoms underneath and my legs were getting cold instantly. This jacket is the real deal.
This jacket is hands down my favorite Sitka piece. Stayed extremely warm in a very snowy Colorado elk hunt last fall. Own a large tall and the fit is perfect!! Stayed comfortable all week in 14-25 degree days. (NOTE: we don’t experience humidity like most of the country) But of all of the Sitka pieces I own, this is the most important. If you don’t purchase anything else at least buy this jacket.
I had my doubts about this jacket when I first pulled it out of the box because it felt so light and delicate. Holy cow was I wrong... I've been very impressed with the jacket from its ability to buck wind, to being warm, and also breathing a bit to not be too hot. You won't regret it.
The quality build of this jacket is amazing. The attention to every detail and the high quality material is just far above anything else I have purchased over the last 40 or so years of buying hunting/fishing gear. So do yourself a favor. Spend the big bucks and you will not be disappointed.
I really like this puffy jacket. It seems to deliver a bit more warmth than you would expect for its weight. I had kelvin lite hoody before and I often felt clammy in it, but this one doesn't seem to have that issue. The hood fits nice and close to the face allowing good visibility. I feel like this was worth upgrading to.
This jacket is sweet. Super happy with the purchase. For how insane light it is, it is insanely warm. Weight to warm scale is crazy.
I've worn this outside in single digit windy weather this winter a lot. You just don't get cold in this thing. The wind has no effect either. And it is so light, you don't know you are wearing it. And you don't get over-heated in it either. I haven't touched any of the other coats I have since I put this on. Nothing like it!
Great jacket that is very warm for how light it is. 10/10 recommend to wear every day!
Having bought the vest for a few months I was very curious to see what a full hoodie would do. I am quite impressed. Not too bulky and fairly light but it does feel heavier/thicker than the vest. Wearing the hoodie and the shake dry jacket on top I feel very comfortable even with freezing temperatures. I think the GORE-TEX over it makes the big different but the hoodie on its own is warm enough and comfortable enough for every day use. I went with a size Large and it has excellent fit. I am about 45 chest, 34 waist and i have full movement with a base layer. The size is good enough to wear, say a fleece zipper and still feel comfortable, not too tight to have full mobility.
Highly recommended!!!
I usually wait a year/season before writing a review but I have to say you don’t have to wait to buy an Aerolite. For being this lightweight it shouldn’t be this warm. It’s better than some of my other, more expensive puffy pieces. It’s a new favorite for sure.
Amazing jacket. Really impressed with how warm it is. I even use it on duck hunts. Definitely going to invest more into the aerolite system.
This jacket is great so far. It's very lightweight and with just a t-shirt underneath pretty warm. Can easily wear as an outer jacket or as a layer. I bought a solid color to wear around town and under my ski jacket. I am 5'10" and 160 lbs and ordered the medium. It fits perfect. My only knock is that it is short in the front which is typical, in my experience, for Sitka jackets. I would prefer their jackets to sit a little further below the waist than they do. Overall though, I would order the jacket again and look forward to its use.
Not only is this an awesome piece, but it is what Sitka claims. This jacket is by far one of my favorite Sitka pieces. I hunt in mine and wear out as well. It runs true to size. I stood in the misting rain at 42 degrees for over an hour and never did I get wet or cold. GREAT JOB Sitka. I will definitely be buying another color. If you do not have this Jacket you better get one.
I love everything about this jacket except how noisy it is. I archery hunt and its a very loud jacket to move around in in the woods.
I like the jacket and overall quality seems great. I did have to size down. I typically wear a Large at 5’11, 186lbs, 42” chest but the Large seemed to swallow me. The medium will work the best for me in this specific jacket. Hopefully, that helps if you're trying to decide sizes. Standard fit make sense for it to fit for more layering.
Great jacket. Amazing warmth to weight ratio. Also looks great and fits well.
I have been really impressed with this jacket. It is the perfect warmth for archery elk season while glassing and very pack-able when not being worn. Fit is perfect for me.
Wore this on Saskatchewan hunt in temperatures of 2°F to 30°F in a pop up blind to test the layering. Seemed thin and I was skeptical of how warm it would be but I was pleasantly surprised. I layered with two heavyweight wool long johns, the Celsius Midi, Kelvin Aerolite Jacket, and Incinerator Bibs and I was not chilled during my nine hour sit. Would like a little more room in arms as us gun hunters don't need such a tight fit as the bow guys. Great job SITKA!
Awesome jacket. Absolutely my go-to piece from now on. It's an outer-layer when it’s cool and a mid-layer when it’s cold. Super compressible. Way warmer than it should be seeing as thin as it is. Relatively silent and not nearly as loud as the Kelvin Lite Jacket.Solid color can be worn anywhere. Warm when wet and I mean wet! Wish it came with a stuff sack and removable hood. Hood although is a good snug fit!
Not too impressed with this product I’ve been a long term Sitka fan for a while however this doesn’t live up to the name…. After one hunting trip there is already wear and insulation busting out of the seams. I also washed it according to manufactures spec hand washing it with a down specific detergent rinsing twice and then tumble drying with tennis balls and my jacket has water stains all over it.
This jacket is extremely packable and lightweight yet keeps me more warm than several other parka style jackets I own. Well worth the money and will be my primary mid-layer for the later hunting season and my outer layer during the early season. The lack of bulk makes this jacket extremely versatile without giving up warmth. Most impressive was how I stayed warm after getting caught out in a rain storm...incredible performance.
The jacket is very warm and made well like all Sitka items, but it is far from the athletic fit that I have grown to expect from Sitka products. I have an athletic build, 185 lbs, 6'1, and this jacket looks like a poncho on me, tons of room around my chest and torso. I ordered my normal size of Large.
This was a go to piece of clothing on my northern BC Caribou hunt. Lightweight, packable and was kind of magic in that it kept me the perfect comfort level across a wide range of temperatures.
I am 5'9" and 230lbs so on the hefty side and the XL was perfect for me. I am pretty broad chested so have hell of time to get jackets to fit my shoulders right. It does have a more forgiving fit in the arms compared to the Kelvin Lite jacket. I pretty much wear this jacket all the time now including around home.
I have the original Kelvin Jacket and the Kelvin Aerolite Jacket. Each has its merits. The Aerolite weighs less, better with wind and more packable. I have hunted wearing both jackets (at different times) in upper 20s and low 30s morning weather and I was warmer in the original Kelvin Jacket which I appreciated when I was static. Also, the original Kelvin Jacket allowed for better breathing and moisture wicking. Overall I prefer the original Kelvin Jacket. For me, a mid-layer, should be warm and moisture wicking. There are other layers for wind/water protection. Since the Aerolite does not breathe as well, I think Sitka thought they could reduce the amount of insulation to retain weight to warmth ratio. This is a great jacket for the minimalist, but I definitely prefer the original Kelvin Jacket.
LOVE this piece. I haven’t taken it hunting yet, but I live in Alaska and have worn it in a ton of different conditions so far this fall. From rain and cold to snowing in the 20's. Highs were in the 30's the other day and I wore with a medium weight hoodie for 3-4 hours outside. Did not get cold at all. It’s definitely NOT an active insulation piece though. Get moving too much and you’ll get toasty in a hurry. I am 6’4, 210lbs and I ordered a large initially for every day use. It fits amazing but is a little short and not much room for layering. I’ll keep that as my town jacket and just ordered a second in XLT for hunting. Looking forward to testing it in some harsh conditions 2 weeks from now on a PWS Blacktail deer hunt. I have the Kelvin Down Lite Hoody and the Kelvin Down WS Hoodie. It’s definitely not as warm as those…but the synthetic adds a lot of versatility.
I bought this jacket for it’s light weight and packability. I took it on a 5 day backcountry elk hunt and really enjoyed the versatility of the Kelvin Aerolite. I was surprised at how well it worked keeping me warm in a wide range of activity. From hiking, glassing after the sun went down, and even sleeping, the jacket was very comfy and functioned well. We got rained on from a storm that came out of nowhere, and it was still warm and comfortable to wear. It’s a great jacket!
This is the perfect puffy jacket. I'm blown away with the warmth to weight ratio. Sitka's attention to detail on this jacket shows. The stretch cuffs slide over my release and fit over a watch while still sealing out the wind. It is warmer than the Kelvin Active Jacket. I'm 5'11" and 185 lbs with a muscular build. I wear a size large in all Sitka tops, and this one fits perfectly with room to layer. I love it so much I got Subalpine and black. The only complaint is it's not silent, but still not loud. I don't think the noise will be an issue for archery elk hunting.
Just got back from 10 day elk hunt in Colorado. Temps ranged from 34°F to 44°F for lows and 54°F to 65°F for high. Found myself wearing this jacket just about all the time. So lite and comfortable. Warm with minimal layers. Definitely a great piece of clothing. Sitka did very well with this.
This is my first piece of Sitka gear and wong be my last. For reference I am 6'3", 215 athletic build and I ordered the XL Tall. It fits me perfectly and the quality is awesome. I was worried when I took it out of the box because it feels pretty thin. But then I put it on and could instantly feel my arms and head getting warm. I have no doubt it will be perfect to throw on while glassing between hikes and keep me warm. The sleeves taper perfectly, have a stretch panel down near the cuff so it easily goes over your hands and wont interfere with my bowstring. The hood is also perfect as it isn't bulky, doesn't block your peripheral vision and works great with or without a hat on. The body is a good length and wont let in drafts while sitting to glass for animals. The Subalpine camo is amazing as well and will work pretty much anywhere. Overall, I am very impressed with this jacket. Will update after season on durability.
Just got this jacket and without testing it out yet due to it being August all I can do is give a unboxing review. First thing you notice is it is extremely lite. I mean it. I have shirts that weigh more. Fit is perfect. 5'8", 195 lbs. 45 inch chest. Ordered a large. Im surprised at how quiet it is being kinda like a puffy. Its not fanatic line quiet but I will definitely wear whitetail hunting if needed. I ordered this for archery elk hunting and it will definitely fit into pack for that. I will try to do an update after my elk hunt this September. But if you're on the fence, I would recommend you pull the trigger.
Just got this today. The reason for 4 stars is because I haven't tried it in the field yet. But as soon as my archery elk hunt is complete I will give a updated review. So this is a first impression review on quality and fit. 4 stars being the highest. Fit is perfect. Im 5'9 190 pounds with a 45 inch chest. I ordered a large. Build quality is very good, typical sitka. Packs down very small, weight is mind blowing. I have marino base layers that weigh more. And im very surprised that this garment is very quiet for what it is. Nothing like a typical puffy. Not silent, but you could stalk wearing it. Hood fits very well. So without testing in the field yet , I can say this product has no buyers remorse attached to it.
Steven Drake has logged more time than most backpack hunting in remote mountain ranges and prairie. As we all know, the lessons and niche information we glean from experience is invaluable. Information on layering and camping gear is pretty simple to find – but those small, unpredictable items that are worth their weight in gold in your pack are typically discovered after a bad experience. Through hard-earned mistakes, Steven has dialed in a list of obscure gear that he carries in his pack on every hunt. Here’s his full list...

I used this jacket on a combo ski/fly fishing trip in April to Breckenridge Colorado and on the Gunnison river! The weather was all over the place! From a blizzard to a sunny 30 degree day in the mountain. Great packability into my daypack on the river was awesome! Thanks for a great product!
Love this jacket! My favorite was always my Kelvin Light until I got this. I bought the coyote color and have worn it in Alaska fishing on a week long float trip, as well as archery elk hunting in September. In December, I wore it hunting mule deer in cold weather. I love how lightweight it is and the color. Easy to pack when not using. I've also got it wet and it didn't take long to dry out. I've worn it over my other lightweight hoodies, as well as under my Stormfront coat in extreme weather temperatures and always stay warm. Highly recommended for every season. You can always take it off if you are layering.
Thanks!
Since purchasing I have worn this jacket as my outside layer over my sitka hoodie. I fished Pyramid lake on a ladder in the open with 26 degree temps (in the morning up to 45 during the day) and a 7 mph wind. The jacket kept me warm and comfortable. The hood came in handy when I needed some extra protection from the wind. It also came in handy fishing in the snow in upper Michigan for steelhead. If you are battling the elements and want a top notch jacket, this one will work for you.
Super light weight and warm. It’s more waterproof than I expected as well as it can handle a light rain very well.
