For the person who can't decide
I wanted to put a review up here for the guys like me who struggle to decide whether something like this is worth the investment. Long story short, I think this jacket is great, but whether I say it's worth it or not would take into context how you hunt. I do not have access to private land, so I am stuck hunting public (whitetail) in North Carolina. I do a lot of walking and typically, once I head in the woods in the morning, I don't come out until I kill something or until dark. With this in mind, I want to be able to pack everything I need in my backpack when I head in. The other thing for me is that I only bow hunt. For this reason, I don't want bulky, noisy clothes that create the risk of spooking deer or interfering with my maneuverability. In my area, we typically don't see the 30s until Thanksgiving or December so I also want something I can use in a range of temps. With that context laid out, I think this jacket is great. The pockets are in great spots, it is quiet, and it is great for layering. I've worn it now in temps as high as 50 and with a 120 Merino long sleeve underneath, it was perfect. Today, I sat in 25-degree weather from 0530 to 1130. For my top half I have the Merino 120, a heavy (non sitka) thermal long sleeve, a lightweight sweater, and the Stratus jacket and was great. Probably would have been fine without the sweater, but I had it so I wore it. This jacket is also low enough profile that I can easily put it in my backpack. Now, if I am being honest, I would have a tough time spending the money if I were riding a side by side to a field, walking 100 yards to a box blind, and shooting spikes from 200 yards with a 300wm. At that point, I would probably be fine just wearing any run of the mill, cold weather hunting coat. If you are looking for something that is versatile, lightweight, and warm, I would say this is worth the investment. As far as fit, I am 6'1" 240 lbs with an athletic build. I bought a LT and it fits great and layered well with the above mentioned clothes. If I carried more weight in my midsection, I would probably want an XL.
