    Why We Made This

Rain gear for the big game hunter must be breathable, durable and lightweight. A lack of any of these qualities can compromise a hunt or–worse–lead to an emergency. For 2019, we streamlined the construction to reduce overall garment weight and limit failure points. The superiority of a 3-layer GORE-TEX® construction delivers the durability, breathability and industry-leading waterproofing that makes Cloudburst a go-to for mountain hunters worldwide.

I purchased the Cloudburst rain gear system for a Caribou hunt in the Alaskan bush in August. The Clouburst rain gear system worked flawlessly. The rain jacket was lightweight, breathable, and water/windproof. The "pit zips" allow for additional breathability, while not compromising waterproofness. I also like the adjustable hood, which gives you a snug fit and does not impair your field of view.

Hands down this is the best jacket on the market for hunting in wet conditions, it is very durable and is very quite while walking. Kept me 100% dry during a few down pours during this springs turkey season..

What an incredible product. This is the perfect rain shell for backpack hunting, lightweight but very durable and extremely wind resistant. Tech tip: roll the jacket up into the hood and it stows about the size of a Nalgene.

Fantastic shell! Performed excellently from rain to cold driving wind and snow. Wore it alone with base layers when it was warmer and raining yet there was plenty room to layer once the snow started to fly. Surprisingly breathable for a water proof shell as well.

I was looking for a single all purpose jacket to wear hunting in and around the Gulf Coast. Duck hunting in the marshes & prairie, deer in the southern pine forrest and hogs in the central thickets of Texas. Mild to cold weather, lots of sitting and lots of damp conditions. Brown camo is a necessity for the marshes and does well in timber. The Delta jacket is a duck hunting marvel but is short unless your wearing waders. The whitetail outfits are set up for the woods.
Although designed for big game in rain and snow the Thunderhead Jacket in the subalpine (brown & green) does the trick for me. I wear it with a shirt for mild weather deer and hog hunts and it blends in well with the marsh and prairie for ducks and geese. In cold weather layer up, it does not bind and the design is well thought out for the hunter.
I have sat through fog, rain, blue northers and stayed warm and dry. Duck hunts are always wet and it works like it was made for waterfowl. Its not a rain jacket it is my hunting coat and has served me well for two seasons.

On day 2 Of a 3 day deer hunt my two buddies wanted to pack it in. It had been raining since we showed up. I had been wearing a set of cloudburst gear. They were not. I hardly noticed the on again off again rain even with temps in the 40s. They were not happy and wanted to cut the trip short. Cloudburst is a great balance of hard wearing gear that is light enough to take a long just in case.

Wore this jacket for two Alaska hunts - DIY remote moose in 2018 and DIY remote caribou in 2019. Both hunts we were dropped by float plane and hunted very hard. The moose hunt was scheduled for 10 days and went 17 days because of terrible weather the float plane could not get in to get us. I was hungry and tired, but not wet or cold because of this piece. I'm just now back in Anchorage from the caribou hunt and it was scheduled for 7 days and went 11, same reason - high winds and rain stranded us. Once again, I basically lived in this coat and feel strongly it is one of the best decisions on gear I've ever made. Thanks Sitka

What a huge improvement! I owned the older version of the cloudburst jacket, this jacket fits much better, is more streamlined, quieter, and stretches much more than the previous model. Hand pockets are placed perfectly, which allows access when pack hip belt is secured. The pit zips are much deeper. You can actually access pockets to layers underneath by opening the pit zips fully. The new hood design is much nicer, it’s simple yet serves its purpose perfectly. The tail of the jacket seems a bit longer which is great cause I found the older version would slowly creep up your back while maneuvering throughout a rainy hike. As I previously stated the stretch of this new jacket is great, it has to be the most I’ve seen out of any rain gear I’ve worn. Also the overall quality of all the seams is second to none. I’ve been using Sitka going on 7 years and it’s great to see as the company greats larger and larger each year the attention to detail and quality is always top notch!
